Representative hotel in Riung with Fan, Air conditioning rooms, Private shower and the room space big enough. In the night bit noise due to close to electricity power. The light will turn on at 18.00 Pm - turn off at 06.00 Am.

Room Tip: Better and quit one just near receptionist

This place, run by missionaries, is the only real choice of accommodation if you want to stay in Riung. Our room was fairly spacious (compared to other accommodation in Flores) and was clean. The bathroom was small and basic. Light in the room was quite poor, although there was also a table lamp provided. Overall it wasn't the most comfortable room to stay in, but ok. At night and the next morning it was a bit stuffy in the room, however there was a fan and aircon. Dinner was in the canteen and both the food and variety of items was good. Service was ok and the staff were polite and seemed quite efficient. In the early evening we sat in the courtyard- around which rooms (including ours) were situated- and had tea, which was pleasant (though quite a lot of flies!) The reason for staying at the Pondok SVD was our trip the next day, which departed from Riung. Our day comprised a really nice islands tour and boat trip complete with delicious fried fresh fish lunch and snorkelling. If there was more of a choice then we probably wouldn’t have chosen the Pondok SVD, however it was ok for that one night.

After all the negative comments earlier on this forum (see below) I was quite worried before we arrived in Riung, but either they improved dramatically on all aspects in the last two months or I was in a different hotel!
Rooms were clean and spacious (we even had a little separate living area with sofa, coffeetable, desk and TV and DVD player, although they didnt seem to work...), towels and soaps were provided and it was one of the few hotels with an Aircon in the room, which is quite appreciated as it is very hot and humid otherwise.

The staff was very friendly and helpful whenever we needed something.
No hot water though available, but since it is hot anyway this is not much of an issue.
Electricity runs from 6pm to 6am, so make sure you charge your electronic gadgets during that time!
There is a nice court yard in the middle of the building which was the perfect place to relax with a beer in the evening and have a chat with other guests or play some games.

Dinner was good and plenty with choice of chicken or fish, rice, mixed vegetables, some really nice but spicy noodles and bananas and pineapples. Breakfast the usual...bread with jam, omlette, a slice of cheese and tea or coffee, a bit disappointing after the good dinner.
It is quite a detour from bajawa to riung and the road seems to be even worse than on the rest of the island, so be ready for a hard ride.
The snorkeling near the island was ok only, but there is another spot more in the open sea which is very nice! Also the flying fox colony is quite impressive to watch.
The whole place has still a very undeveloped feel to it.

Rooms are ok even if no charm at all.
Much overpriced.

Rooms not cleaned, no soap, no towel...unless you ask.

No service at all: even not possible to have some water or soda....

Location is bad: very near to the noisy diesel.....

I do not know if there is anything better there.

Trip on 17th islands: cost should be around 300kinr, not 700 as asked by tours and hotels...Beaches on the island are dirty / probably never ever cleaned....

I do not recommend to come there....islands / snorkling / beaches not worth the effort to come here...

Rooms are ok, beds comfortable and bathroom ok. Nothing thrilling.
It is a remote village so do not expect a lot of activity there, it is good to have a rest.
Lots of worms at night crawling in your room, it is a bit disgusting but nothing dramatic. Staff is nice but busy with their own business. :)
