Plas Talgarth Holiday Resort

We were in the area for a family function and got a great deal on an apartment for 2 nights.
We arrived at 3pm, but couldn't get into the apartment until after 5.30. This is normal, as it is a resort and the houskeepers have to completely turn around the site, which isn't as simple as changing a bed and cleaning a bathroom.
When we walked into the apartment, it was split level and much larger than my home, with 2 bedrooms, 1 of which was en-suite another bathroom with sauna, and a seperate WC. There was a very spacious living area with kitchen, dining table and a balcony with great views! As there was only 2 of us, we chose to use the pull down bed in the living, which suited us, as this was where the only TV was.
The leisure centre was well equipped and clean, we used this once and it was fairly quiet at the time, there is also and outdoor pool, which we opted to stay away from as it was the middle of November.
We used the bar when we were waiting for the apartment to be ready. We had some sandwiches, that were very nice and wel presented. There are walks in the surrounding woods with marked paths that we used to walk off the lunch.
On the second night, we dined in the restaurant, which is above the bar on the forst floor. it was very quiet with only a few tables in, which suited us well. The food quality was very good with a carvery option for main course. My only criticism would be the service. It seemed very lacklustre, in that there was no uniform and one (head) waiter was wearing jeans, a bit too informal for the setting! My other issue was that when we were offered dessert, we had the same man read from a piece of paper and expect us to remeber and order there and then. I am the kind of person who likes to be seduced by a menu, then make up my mind, so after the "reading" we declined, which lost them a sale. The food & drinks were well priced and it saves you cooking or having to venture into Aberdovey to eat. I would advise anyone to bring the tea, coffee, milk, sugar, etc with them. There are none supplied. If you forget, your last real option en-route is Machynlleth, which has a Co-op on the left as you are heading through, you can stock up there.
Overall, a graet couple of days, with generally great service and facilities, great if your a family, or just want a quiet getaway.

I stayed at Plas Talgarth last weekend as my nephew held his wedding reception there. My sister had booked a couple of chalets (as I thought), but from the outside they just looked like flats. We trampled up the concrete steps and were faced with just an ordinary looking front door. However, I was not prepared for the luxury accomodation which lay behind the front door. There was a very large sitting room with 2 luxury leather suites, plus comfy armchairs, TV, dining table, balcony with table & chairs, ashtray for us smokers ;-) There was a very small kitchen (for self catering) just off the sitting room, the kitchen contained everything you could possibly need including a dish washer. The place had a shower room downstairs, 3 bedrooms upstairs, one had a queen size bed and en suite bathroom, the other 2 bedrooms had 2 single beds in each and a bathroom with a bath, shower, a sauna, and heated towel rails too. The place was huge and I felt like I was in my own little hotel. It was spotlessly clean, and one of the best places that I have ever stayed in. The food in the restaurant was great too. One drawback however is that they charge separately for electricity, our bill was £11 for 2 days (for 4 of us) and we weren't there for most of that time. I'd highly recommend Plas Talgarth.

We bought our niece here for a week's stay. The weather was terrible, which didn't help. We were disappointed by the misleading description of the property and did not have enough space for the three of us. We stayed in the main house and halfway through the week, they lifted up all the carpets and just left exposed gripper rods. Very unsafe.

We did complain directly to the resort but our complaints fell on deaf ears!

Having recently stayed at Plas Talgarth I was very disappointed with this 'resort'.. and the lack of customer service skills from staff upon making several complaints....

After viewing Macdonald resorts website which shows beautiful photos of accomodation, upon arrival I could not believe the standard of furnishing in the apartments it was like a 1970's bedsit.. The furniture was dirty, and marked, the carpet was dirty, cobwebs on the light fittings, which were hanging off, and the toilet seat hanging off.I complained to the staff who said the place had been professionally cleaned earlier!!
The whole apartment stank, and I could not believe that the bedlinen was even dirty in the master bedroom, and we had to sleep on a towel , as it was too late at night to call someone when we went to bed.
The management stated they have staff shortages, however that really isnt my issue when I am paying for a holiday resort, I could have easily stayed on a caravan camp, which would have been much much cheaper.
Macdonald resorts need to start spending some money on this place to bring it up to standards of the 21st century. Having worked in hotel management for many years I was saddened to see the state of this potential paradise, with such fantastic surroundings.
Even the pool table is chargeable, and then you have to pay for electricity to power the pooltable lights, the dryers in the guest laundry never get hot, and it costs a fortune to dry anything!!
It seems that Macdonald resorts just want to take from the customer with their overpriced tatty accomodation and amenity charges, and not give back, well people expect and deserve BETTER come on Macdonald group, get a grip
