“WHAT A GREAT LITTLE HOTEL”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

Booked this at the last minute with Thomsons. What a gem of a hotel. It's not too big and very much family run. We were on half board and also ate lunch there. The food was always freshly cooked and always a good selection. You are served at the table.
There were plenty of sunbeds and the pool and its immediate area was always clean.
Evening entertainment was usually excellent. It was close to the beach as well. The rooms were cleaned 6 days a week and were not bad. Air con cost 5 euros a day, but in July you need it.
Overall an excellent time was had by us both.

We stayed in the Alkyion in July for 11 nights and must say this was one of the best hotels ever stayed in. The rooms and room service were spot on maid came in everyday even the first morning even though we only arrived at 3am. we normally go for a buffet service restaurant so was a bit wary about the choice of meals we would receive but neednt have worried it was like dining in a different restaurant every night the choice was amazing with 4 choices of starters such as soup, prawn salad.a pasta dish meatballs, stuffed peppers, stuffed tomatoes to name a few. the same with the main meal which could be Chicken fillet, pork chops lamb, beef, or fish all served piping hot, and every night there was always a greek dish on the menu. There was a choice of too many deserts to mention orange cake, cheesecake, jelly, gateux, tiramisu, icecream etc. served by polite funny quick staff. The pool area is quite large with a grassed area as well so there was always sunbeds to get and this was all kept spotless by the gardener. The location of the Alkyion is ideal just a short walk to all the main nightlife where there was either music bars tribute acts or just chilling out bars.Just a small shortcoming in that we would have liked a fridge in the room. But all in all the perfect hotel.

Basic yet clean hotel, we stayed on a half board basis and found the food nice with a 3 course meal in the night and the staff are very friendly.

Nice pool area, rooms have air con but you do have to pay for it, wich now days is whats expected in most greek hotels. The hotel is away from the bars further down the road, wich was nice so we had no noise around in the nights.

Beach is very nice with coves that you can swim under, boats available to rent wich i would recomend doing, very fun day out!

Well what can i say after reading the reviews on here i wanted to cancel my stay at the Alkion hotel wish i had now, From the outside this hotel looks nice but boy were we sadly disappointed, First of all when we arrived we asked for air con as we had young baby who wasn't use to the weather the manager said pay in morning so we did we were shocked when he asked for 35 euros for a week, Then we went for breakfast we decided to choose the continental breakfast which cost 2.50 euro and was disgusting for the rest of the holiday we decided not to eat breakfast at the hotel as there was better place to eat and only for 3.80 euro. Our room was very dirty thick with dust our maid was really lazy when asked to change my bed she said no it hadn't been changed for 3 days and was visibly dirty.
When we went for dinner in the half board restaurant we found the waiters rude they all spoke in Greek among us and u could just tell it was about us for example we had a baby under 2 who was with our party and apparently kids under 2 don't eat food they are suppose to eat of parents plates (never heard of that in my life b4) anyway we decided to order baby a meal and when it was brought over every waiter in the place came over for a look and all started speaking in Greek i did ask if there was a prob and told there wasn't.
Then to top it all of on the last night we sat down to our last meal and my partner found a dead bug in his salad and when we said that we thought that was just disgusting to the waiter he said quote "yous have ate here for the last 2 weeks" the cheek of some people no apology or anything.
Would defo never go back here DISGUSTING!!!!! oh on a lighter note Laura and Kari's the entertainment team through the day were lovely and hope they are doing well

What a great hotel staff so friendly, food great, rooms immaculately clean, entertainment excellent, a special mention for Terry & Lizzie, what more can I say, the only regret we had was that we didn't book for longer and our biggest disappointment was leaving.
The resort was quite small but there was everything you could need within a very short walking distance. Night life was varied, quiet romantic meal to the full ear bursting discos, again something for everyone.

I have just returned from two weeks at the Alkyon and thought it to be very nice base for exploring the Island. The food is good and you usally have a fair choice for lunch and evening meal though breakfast is very limited. You can pay two euro's fify for a cooked breakfast but I didn't feel the cooked breakfast was worth the money. Many of the local bars will sell you a breakfast which is much better value in my oppinion.

The pool is nicely landscaped and very clean but I did little more than dip a toe in as it is not heated and the water was freezing. The kids seemed to enjoy swimming though. I am lead to believe that it is not usual for Greek hotels to have heated pools so I can't really criticise the hotel for not heating theirs.

The hotel is nicely located next to the main strip of bars, restaurants and shops with the beach just behind and seemed to be filled with guests of all ages though I noticed very few teenagers. This meant the hotel was quiet in the main at night and no rowdy games by the pool which was nice.

I would definitely stay at the Alkyon again if I went back to Corfu but I would go All Inclusive not Half Board as the food and drink is expensive and I wouldnt go at the end of the season again as the shops are running down their stock, they stop cleaning the beaches which were covered in seaweed by the time I got there on the 16th of October 2009 and the hotel has very little entertainment running at night by then (and if you have kids, the water parks are closed well before the end of the season so there isnt a lot of kids to do)

The hotel is good for disabled guests as they have ground floor rooms and the comunal areas are all on one level.

Be aware that the hotel whilst nice is basic so if you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you.

The rating for the Alkion is a 3 star. It is not---- it should be higher! If there was free air con / heating and a fridge in the room it would definately rat e 4 +. We stayed for two weeks at the end of the season and were spoilt for choice of food.."Hot food" served to your table, with a drink ( pay after dinner @ uk PRICES) ) by superb, friendly, courteous and genuinely happy ( if a little tired at end of season) staff. Andrea has always got a smile and help her out with the menu , it must be a pain repeating 15 items to 35 tables!!,Room clean, spacious, bath and shower, no typical smells, fresh towels every couple of days and room always thouroughly cleaned by happy staff.
The nicest bit about the hotel was the staff, already mentioned Andrea, Dora on reception, Spiros ( I have for you Mosquito soup .. Mushroom!) and Mario are great fun as well as all the others. No grumpies amongst them all.
Pool had plenty of loungers , water was a bit cold but after torrential rain and hailstones not surprising, pool water and sunbuns surprise surprise .. spotless!! No towels on them either!!!!
Sidari is a Bit Brit, but this is fine , Madisons for a large Breakfast ( for brunch) lasts the day at under £3. and the place has the cleanest toilets ... with seats!! of all the ones we tried. Frankie and the staff are likewise flat out but friendly.
Thomson reps ate at the hotel which says a lot and were always on hand for any problems, but there were none!!
Loved Corfu yet again, hired a car for 8 days and the island really is beautifull if you explore. Agios Giorgios ( North West ) 2 miles of beach and 12 people on it !!!
Loved it ... So thankyou to the Alkion ...Efharisto!!!
