Stayed for a week at the Alkyon Hotel, basic rooms but spotless, most of the staff are friendly especially in the bar,but found some of the management to be rather unfriendly. Breakfast was rather poor, continental, all the milk was long life but we bought our own fresh, you can buy a cooked breakfast for 2 euros but it would have been nice to have the option of beans, scrambled or fried egg etc.on toast? Buffet in the evening however was excellent, food was delicious. Pool area very nice & clean, they were replacing the sun beds while we were there. Evening entertainment was a bit mixed, karaoke night a bit hit & miss but the cabaret nights are great. You are not allowed to eat or drink anything at the pool that hasn't been bought at the hotel & we found 2 euro for a tin of diet coke a bit steep when you can buy it at the supermarket across the road for 70 cents!!! Air con is 35 euros a week. All in all a good holiday although a bit disappointed as we emailed ahead to ask for room 206 or similar as had been told it had a bath as well as a shower, the reply from the hotel was "of course " but on arrival we were allocated a room with just a shower which soaked the bathroom floor every time very typical in Greece!! On balance we would not hesitate to return or recommend the hotel & for the price you can't go wrong.

Arrived for one week from 12th-19th July. It was 10.15pm when we arrived hot and tired. The guests in front of us at check in asked for air conditioning and a safe key. When it was our time I was not offered this only the room key. So in temperatures of approx 29 degrees it seemed the only option to have air conditioning, the two items came to 42 euros for the week.

In the morning in the restaurant I let out a sigh because it was so hot and a waiter close by said in an aggressive way " you shouldn't come here if you don't like the heat" we carried on to get our breakfasts to discover that although we were staying on half board we were expected to pay 2 euros extra for a cooked breakfast. Before I carry on I must say that I am well travelled and this was my 5th holiday this year but never have I been expected to pay extra for a cooked breakfast. The breakfast choice was basic to say the least. Two kinds of cereal, cold meats, cheese and bread oh and a few croissants.

The majority of the guests seemed to sit around the pool or in the bar drinking. We went out four days as we wanted to see what Corfu was like away from this boring hotel. No daytime entertainment or kids club.

The room no 120 was big enough for two but so basic, you couldn't swing a cat in the bathroom which looked as if it had come out of the ark. The shower head was rusty and on the odd day we were given a bath mat or maybe not. The hand basin was cracked. The towels had seen better days, ideal for cleaning the floor with.

Dinning room officially opens at 8am and because of this I asked at Reception if there was any way we could have an early breakfast, "just walk in" she said. This we did at 7.50am. No problem and duly fed on our meagre diet off we went for our day. The trip was brilliant. However, two days later when we were going off on another trip we went to go into the restaurant at the same time and were accosted by the same aggressive waiter who had been offensive to me on our first day, who put his arms out and said "you can't come in because the restaurant doesn't open until 8 o'clock. I explained that reception had said that it was ok because we were going out and we had in fact done it before. He then said that we could collect our food and take it outside to the Internet area and sit on a little table there. We did this and caused much amusement to guests arriving at 8am wanting to know why we sitting outside like two naughty children.

So the Star of the week goes to the Jobsworth waiter (not Mario) you know who You are. Would we return? Never in a million years.

we really ejoyed our stay here, rooms basic but clean and tidy, staff were very good with the kids. The food was what you would expect for what we paid. We did eat out alot, Pool was great for the kids and myself, had alot of fun there. Met other friendly people some who i think will remain on my christmas list forever. Would definatly return to this hotel again. Cactus jacks around the corner is a must to visit and also some great trips from vlasoros travel opposite. Great all round really

This review is probably going to sound a bit strange but here goes! We have stayed in Sidari several times over the year because we love the village, the people, the food, the country and meeting new friends which has never been a problem. The Hotel was nice though a bit dated in some respects. It was spotlessly clean and appeared to be well run. The Dining Room/Bar area is combined and looks and feels more like a Working Mans Club. We made some requests before we arrived because of my wife's disabilities - the Hotel very happily obliged for which we are grateful. However, on getting out of the taxi in the early hours, we were met by a very grumpy old man who just pointed us to our room - no help offered. When I asked him where we could get some water I was ignored and then had to manouevre the cases, a wheelchair and my wife upstairs to the room with no offer of assistance. The room was as requested, a good size and very clean and was kept that way very well during our stay and can't fault it. Beware though, of being woken up at 8.00am EVERY day by the cleaners shouting and walking up and down the tiled corridors in wooden soled shoes. I must pay a special mention to the 2 or 3 families with young children and thank them for allowing their wonderful kids to run, shouting and screaming up and down the corridor at the same time. Food was ok - but it felt like School Dinners. The queue's, being pushed out of the way - yes, including my disabled wife (who can only walk very short distances), the "who can talk the loudest" atmosphere etc etc.

We attempted to stay by the Pool for a day but didn't make it. Mainly because of the very loud and noisy Eastern Europeans who happened to be staying - very very inconsiderate. The bar was ok if a little expensive (apart from Happy Hours when they were reasonable) and the bar staff were helpful and very friendly - especially towards my 16 year old daughter! I did have a discussion with a barman concerning the contents of a pint that was supposed to be called Mythos - I don't think it was but when he changed the barrel the next day - it tasted just like it should and looked like it should.

Wherever we have stayed, the atmosphere has always been friendly and welcoming. I am sorry to tell you that this is most definately not the case. But this is from the other guests. They stared, pointed whispered and ignored. They pushed past and came across as being aloof and arrogant apart from the odd one or two. Most were in there 50's and older and obviously believed that a man in his forties, with a disabled wife and teenage daughter did not belong in THEIR hotel - this was a shock. There was no atmosphere and it ruined our holiday. What was also totally UNACCEPTABLE was that this generation of Brits are supposed to be understanding and tolerant. My wife has never been stared at so much when moving about the hotel and when sat in her wheelchair on our way out - it was like we were in a freak show!! I tried to make lite of the situation with her but it upset her immensely - to the level that on a number of occasions she didn't want to leave the room - I just simply cannot believe the way the other guests reacted to her. SHE IS DISABLED AND USES A WHEELCHAIR!! I hope you will read this and feel rightly ashamed and embarrassed.

We tried the entertainment but that too ended at midnight and despite our attempts to liven things up - failed. I think it was Cocoa time. It wasn't just my wife that was being stared at, being the only 16 year girl in the hotel had its drawbacks for my daughter - she dressed for a holiday - she walked in to the dining area/working mans club/school assembly area come bar and every single man stared at her!!!

Thanks to most of the guests there for treating my wife like a freak (2 years ago, at 36, she suffered 2 brain haemorrhages and 4 strokes in case you were wondering) and ruining her holiday as well as mine and my daughter's. No, we would never go back there - and now my wife has doubts about going back to the Island that we love.

Thanks again.

A clean and friendly 3 star hotel in Sidari, Corfu, Greece. A little dated in decor. Family run and the staff could not have been friendlier. Surprisingly good buffet dinners. Rather basic breakfasts.
We used it as a base from which to explore local beaches and towns and it was great for those purposes.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ground floor at back just behind reception and those rooms are fairly quite and do...

We have just come back from 11 nights here and sadly was one of the most boring hotels we have been to.

There is a former review on here that says about holidaying with OAP's which we scoffed at before booking but sadly it has an element of truth to it.

We arrived in the early hours to a rather unfriendly man and didn't even have the means to get even a drink of water. We also got no help with our luggage or directions to our room. The noise in the corridors was very disturbing and started around 8am. This tended to be either the cleaners shouting to each other or the eastern european children running and shouting with very little supervision..................this seemed to continue right through to the pool area also with very little consideration for others.

The room was great. We had messaged them prior to our arrival with special requests and they couldn't have given us a better room based on our needs.
There was plenty of hot water 99.9% of the time so no complaints there and the air con was spot on, although the fridge was on the tiny side and cost 1 Euro per day. We had asked this to be made usable on our arrival but it was locked an we had to wait til afternoon the next day for it to be done :(

The entertainment wasn't in our opinion aimed at anyone below the age of 50 and when it did show signs of livening up...........they then turned the volume down again! lol
A special mention should be given however to the vocal entertainer Charlotte, very talented and a lovely girl too!

Maybe we shouldn't have booked such a large hotel as we normally book smaller family run places and this def lacked any personal touch, even other guests weren't as friendly as we've found in previous years at other hotels.

We read that it used to be waiter service for meals and this would have been preferable to us as the queuing reminded me of school dinners (even with a little pushing and shoving). It wasn't the most relaxing/enjoyable experience and we always felt a little rushed-hence the reason we ate out on quite a few occasions. The food was very tasty though and there was always plenty of choice!

So, if you like being surrounded by people who have no manners and allow their children to behave badly then enjoy your stay. We wouldn't go here again and we wouldn't recommend it unless you can cope with the comments above....................back to a small and friendly hotel for us next year!

Room Tip: Top floor has been renovated, lovely rooms
