Stayed 9 - 17 September 2013

Perfectly placed right next to the Canal D'Amour and only a ten minute walk to the main strip in Sidari.

A few of the not so good things:

1. We arrived very early morning. Booked into the room without a problem.
Then they came; I was the main course for the mosquitos. Yep, I know they are a problem throughout Corfu and that's why I recommend an electrical mosquito thing that emits a scent that puts them off. It was 5 am or our arrival so no nearby shops open etc. Once we bought one it reduced the bites to only a few over the week. Cost €7.

2. Air con; Not powerful enough or cold enough. Room was only slightly cool and I still sweated over the night without covers. Cost €40.

3. (Minor point) It was out of peak season so there was only one night of entertainment. However step outside the hotel and there's a whole resort buzzing for you to choose from.

4. (Minor point) For those that like their TV there are only 3 channels and they're pretty crap.
Not that we cared as weren't in long enough. Too much to do.

Now the good and important stuff:

1. All the staff were excellent, always smiling, courteous and helpful.

2. Cleanliness of the hotel, rooms, restaurant and pool was spot on.

3. Restaurant wasn't over priced on food or drinks.

4. Our shower was hot and powerful. Just what was need after a adventurous day out and getting ready for the night.

5. Our room was cleaned every day with the linen and towels changed every other day.

6. The Rock Night!
A live band with talented musicians. Worth seeing even if you're not staying in the hotel. Best night of our holiday!

Recommendations:

1. Take a mosquito zapper if you are due to arrive early or if not get one as soon as you arrive.

2. Quad bike; We hired one for 3 days and toured the northern part of the island to see:
Sunset Beach, San Stefanos, St Georges Bay, Paleokastritsas, Roda, Kassiopi, Mount Pantokrator and Corfu Town to name a few.
We did this on roads, tracks, through woods, anything to see some stunning views.
Bike from Top Gear in Roda.
Cost €110 for a 350cc. (You may get it cheaper) Fuel €30

3. Baby wipes and dog/nappy bags if you don't like the smell from the toilet bin.

4. Sailing for 3 hours from the Yellow Boat Co, Sidari.
Visit beaches and areas that you wouldn't be able to get to.
Cost €70 for a 25bhp boat.

5. Go to The Rock Night!!

We had a great holiday because we saw other things that Northern Corfu has to offer.
A great base would be, and was for us, the Kanali Hotel.

Me and some friends spent 2 weeks here in August and had a lovely holiday. The apartments are situated in a lovely location with amazing sea views. We stayed in 308 and had a lovely view out to sea. I'm pretty sure all the apartments have such terrific views.
The pool area is very clean and I spent many hours in the pool. There are many sunbeds available and lots of umbrellas if you prefer the shade. The pool can get quite busy with people passing through to go to canal d'amour but with such a beautiful beach and views who can blame them?
The staff are all very nice. Spiros, Kelli and George in Aquarius always enquire about how you are and go out of their way to get to know you.....the food was also lovely, we ate there every lunchtime. I can't comment on the entertainment as previous guests have as we spent every night on Sidari's main strip.
If you are looking for a quiet holiday these are perfect apartments in a good location away from the noise but if you're looking for a more lively scene they still come in handy! Sidari is a 5 minute walk away with some good restaurants, bars and clubs. Marios was always around to greet us when we returned at night whether this be 3am or 7am after a night out!!
The room itself was a good size....the bathroom a bit on the small side and the shower lacking power but you get used to it! The maids were very good and came into the room every day to change the bins and sweep up. They also change the linens about 3 times a week. They were even very quiet and considerate when I was still in bed one afternoon feeling a little delicate!
All in all Nikos and his team should be proud of the apartments they run and they suceed in catering for all types of guest!

We would like to thank all the staff at the Kanali George, Spiros, Nikos and all the cleaners and waiters. The holiday was made so special for us because all the staff were so accommodating and friendly. The hotel was clean and the facilities were good. The pool and bar area was lovely and the views were spectacular. The food at the restaurant was yummy. We loved the Wednesday night when Nikos does his rock night, it was so packed the atmosphere was fantastic. We have already booked for next year. Can't wait eeeeekkkk!

Room Tip: 1st or 2nd floors as you get a seaview.

We have just returned from a week at the Kanali and this is the first place we have been where we will definately be going back. We had a two bedroom apartment on the second floor (room 206). It was spacious and clean and the balcony was large with a good view of the sea. The apartment had everything we needed - the beds were quite hard as i had seen from previous reviews but this was fine for us as we are used to a hardish bed. There were plenty of pillows too, the only thing i would have liked as a pretty light sleeper would have been a blackout back behind the curtains but thats really it. The pool was really nice and clean and i saw it being cleaned with my own eyes !! (yes i get up early ) All the staff were excellent and we can't fault anything. We ate breakfast at the Aquarius most mornings and it was very good (George makes the best latte). Now onto the Rock Night at the Aquarius - i am so glad we read that it was best to book and did so as soon as we arrived, we would have been so disappointed to miss this - it was without a doubt the best night we have ever had on holiday. Nikos and his band were amazing (we also ate dinner at the Aquarius this night but i will review that seperately) my partner was really excited to see the band (and trust me that is no mean feat!) The only thing i will say is its now inspired him to start playing his guitars again so not sure thats a good thing !
Overall we had a great holiday - the Kanali is in a great place for either a quiet relaxing holiday or a more lively one.
I think Sidari is a great resort and you can make the holiday what you want - if you want a quiet relaxing holiday then there are plenty of places to go for this or if you want it a bit more lively then the strip is the place for you.
See you soon :-)

We have jus arrived back this morning to a very rainy and cold Britain and after a wonderful week at Kanali
Reading the 'Terrible' review really upset me
The staff bent over backwards to help you,the cleanliness of the rooms were a very high standard,i thought, basic but comfy apts but these to me are jus a place to sleep after being out all day and we never expect the Ritz, but out of all all places we have stayed in past, this is 1 of the better rooms
Our beds were made daily n towels changed 3 times a week
I found all the staff very nice n extremely helpful and i dont think its right to accuse some1 of nasty and improper practices if you cant back it up

As far as we know we thought all rooms had a seaview or at least a partial seaview
We were in room 207 in the studio block and had a brill view

The Rock Night was the best ever nite my husband and I have ever had in the apts we stayed at

We usually like to try diff places to stay but we have no hesitations in saying now that we will def be returning here again and again

Thanks Nicos n all the staff for an Amazing week

I am prompted to write this review after reading the review entitled "Terrible"! I stayed in the apartments in June 2012 with a friend. The staff were all so welcoming and great fun. The rooms are basic but fine and very clean., as is the swimming pool, which was indeed cleaned every day!

The restaurant was a very popular area and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. The cocktails were great and always served with a smile. We liked the way we were encouraged to try to speak Greek which just added to the fun.

We have never had such great entertainmet in any Greek hotel. There was a Greek Night, a quizz night and the rock band, who we were lucky enough to see twice. We found all the staff delightful and I take exception to the comments made by this reviewer, which were totally uncalled for and I applaud the reply from the owner.

We would have no hesitation in recommending these lovely apartments to our friends and family. It was a really fun holiday and we met some lovely people.

Our room had a fantastc sea view and I was not aware of any apartments that did not!

We enjoy trying different places and do not often return to the same place but would be more than happy to return to see all the lovely people at the Kanali, swim in the fresh water pool, eat at the restaurant and enjoy all the entertainment once again.(We actually stayed in June 2012 but I cannot load this date)

Sidari by night was not quite our cup of tea but it was nice by day and we were very happy at the Kanali in the evenings.

I have been meaning to post a review following my holiday at kanali in July 2013 and having just read the previous review I feel compelled to write about my experience during the same month.
Like the previous reviewer I have also stayed at Kanali before and this was my 3rd visit. I am very surprised at all the comments and particularly horrified by the character assassination of a very hard working, much loved and valued member of staff!
During each of my stays the rooms have been exactly what was expected, clean, well maintained and comfortable. The cleaning staff come every day to make beds, remove rubbish and generally tidy up whilst the bedding and a more thorough clean is done at least 3 times each week. They are very accommodating and returned later on in the day if we were not ready for them (our teenagers liked to sleep in) and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The patio doors are kept very clean and our room was swept every day
As all the previous reviews have stated Kanali is a family run business and all the main staff, Nicos, Kelly, Spiros, Perrie and George treat you as part of their extended family, indeed they go,out of their way to include you and their friendliness to each and every guest is unparalleled. I have travelled the world for over 30 years as a British Airways crew member so I do know something of customer service and all the staff do an amazing job every day.
I would like to make a particular comment about George, who the previous reviewer clearly has issues with. On every occasion I have been either served by him, in conversation with or just passing the time of day he has been a complete gentleman. He is very friendly, works incredibly hard and always retains a sense of humour . I would certainly trust him completely with my teenage daughter and would be reassured that she was in safe hands if she were in his company.
My other comment is about the issues raised regarding the pool cleaning. The pool was maintained perfectly during my visit and in fact on a couple of occasions when I was awake very early in order to watch the sun rise the pool was being cleaned so this job is done during the very early hours when guests are sleeping.
Whilst tripadvisor is a valuable website and much appreciated by holiday makers I do feel that hurtful and potentially slanderous comments should not be published as the people involved cannot defend their good name. If a guest does have a valid reason for complaints of any sort then these should be brought to the attention of the staff at the time for a full discussion and not wait to write about it weeks afterwards.

Room Tip: All the rooms have amazing sea views
