“Great holiday - great staff!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2010

On arrival, Nicky came to collect our bags, and we had a short walk up the drive. We were then shown to our room by Nicky who also helped with the luggage. The room was a typical Greek apartment, fairly basic but really comfortable. We paid for a pool view which was nice to have.

We went as a family with a 15 year old, a 12 year old and a 3 year old. We all had a great time. The staff at the Zafiris are second to none. Nicky works his socks off, as do Angela and Daniel, by walking around the pool or day bringing your drinks, ice creams, hot dogs - whatever you want - nothing is too much trouble.

Barbie is also good fun and a font of all knowledge. She works in the reception and gives great advice and is incredibly friendly and helpful. Her quiz night is great fun - we came 3rd and won 5 Euros!!!

There was also a bingo night run by Kirst the First Choice rep - we won some money ther too so that was a bonus. Nicky also ran a quiz night which was good, the questions were quite hard but the music round much better. Nicky made this great fun.

The best entertainment was the Greek Night - we did this on our last night, and it was a perfect end to a perfect holiday.

Our youngest daughter went to the First Choice Kids Club with Excited Emma and Snazzy Sarah - they were great. The Pool Party was really good - the children pushed them into the pool and everyone had a really fun time.

I would recommend the Zafiris as we had a fantastic holiday with such fantastic people.

From the minute we arrived the wow factor hit, perfect location close to all night life but set in a location of peace and quiet.
Lay out of complex lovely, all well maintained and cleaned by dedicated staff.
What can we say about the staff FANTASTIC, they could not do enough for us which really made our holiday extra special, Barbie on reception celebrated a special birthday whilst we were there and what a night!! We would recommend this as a perfect spot for families to stay

Have just returned from here and must say it was wonderful. The sunsets and views are stunning. There is a slight walk up a little hill to get to it.
The hotel is clean and friendly, it serves english and greek food at reasonable prices.
We did have a problem with a noisy air conditioning, but I must say the staff were very obliging and quick to get on top of the problem.
The rooms are a good size, and are kept clean. All the staff are friendly and obliging.
The First Choice rep, when there, appears helpful.
The pool is lovely and we didnt have to fight for a sunbed.
There is a restaurant nearby called the Aquarius which Id recommend, Good food and nice staff, also one on the Sidari sea front called The Fruit Press - nice smoothies/drinks.
The restaurant called the rocks Id avoid as the staff have a really abrupt attitude and the food isn't that good.
The only downside was the mosquitos, take plenty of repellent.

Flight 2 hrs 40 mins, baggage offloaded quickly in corfu. Transfer just over the hour but we only had 3 drops before us and it was in the early hours of the morning so the roads were very quiet. Some very tight hairpin bends when you go up and down the mountain and some huge cliff egde drops so being dark was an advantage!!!

At the Zafiris you are met by Nikki at the bottom of the drive and he takes your luggage up for you in a van whilst you walk to the top. The drive is long and gets steeper at the top but it isn’t too bad. We had a one bedroom apartment with an upstairs. The room was clean, tidy and painted in powder blue and white with co-ordinating furniture. The living room area consisted of 2 good sized sofa beds, coffee table, bedside cabinet, built in wardrobe, tv and tv cabinet and a small table with 3 chairs (despite being 4 of us) but we never used it anyway so not a problem. The kitchen area is small with hardly any work top space. There was a microwave, kettle, a 2 ring electric camping stove thing and a sandwich toastie machine. Also a selection of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. They could do with a t-towel and dishcloth. We had a balcony with table and chairs. The upstairs consisted of bedroom with 2 large single beds, wardrobe, 2 bedside cabinets, large mirror and shelf unit underneath. The bathroom had small bath with a shower, mirror, shelf and unit for towels and an adequate hairdryer. So plenty of storage.
There is free air conditioning during the peak season and there are also free safety deposit boxes in reception, being free is unusual so saved us money. The doors and windows have insect screens on them and during the first few days we thought we had got away with the mosquito problem. Then we all started to get bitten despite using repellant. They were Ninja Mozzies we didnt see them or hear them but got attacked anyway. In the end i tried making sure the drain vent in the bathroom and plug holes were covered at night and the bite episodes reduced a lot, not sure if this was how they were getting in or just a coincidence.
The food at the Zafiris is very good and the prices are average with the rest of the resort. Large menu with your usual selection of toasties, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, baguettes, omelettes, salads, jacket spuds, breakfast, greek dishes, fish, chicken and steak etc. Approx prices are burger and chips €5, small cooked breakfast €2.70, large breakfast €4, large beer €2.80, glass coke €2.20, milk shake €3.50, slush puppy €2, hot dog €1.50. The pool bar staff wander up and down all day and work very hard and will serve you your drinks and snacks at your sunbed if you wish. Nikki, Daniel and Angela are fantastic. Dawn in reception is also very friendly and helpful and you can book a late check out room for €35. There is entertainment around the bar most nights from a quiz, bingo, mini kids disco to live music. There is also a greek night on a Sunday which is €15 for adults and €11 for kids and well worth going. There is a very good maid service and ours didn’t come too early when we were all still in bed after a late night and they changed the towels and bedding several times and always left plenty of loo roll. The pool is lovely and there are plenty of sunbeds. Despite saying not to, sunbed reserving does go on especially in areas around the kids section of the pool but not too early. Towels started to appear about 9.30am but there are still lots of beds on the terrace areas if you are not too fussy about where to go. Infact we prefered being a bit back from the pool as we didnt constantly get splashed by other people and you still have full view of the pool as you are higher up and closer to the pool bar. The staff are all very friendly and always said hello. The beach is just at the bottom of the steps up behind the pool bar but there are several beach areas close by.

In Sidari both in the main strip and the canal d’amour area there are a large selection of gift shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, car/moped hire, travel shops, and a few doctors to choose from. They all sell pretty much the same thing all at similar prices. If you turn right out of the zafiris driveway you will find the Melitsa supermarket that has a good bakery section with some delicious cakes from about €1.50. Several premises have closed down not sure if that is due to the current economy or whether they have been closed for sometime but there are still lots to choose from. Some of the prices we found were €2 for a loaf of bread, €3 box of cereal, €1 bottle of beer, €1.90 for 1.5 ltr of coke or €1 for unbranded coke. €1.90 for carton of fruit juice and 6x 1.5ltr bottles of water are approx €1.70. Golden Virginia was €38 for 250g or €74 for 500g, cigarettes approx €35. The road is in poor condition and cars and bikes going up and down so keep an eye on younger kids.

There is a good choice of restaurants with similar prices. The average for a main course €7.50. We ate out everynight and used Zafiris, Piazza De La Pizza, Medittaranio, Symposio, Konaki, Marias (free bottle of wine if you go back and eat there again), the 3 pigs and our favourite was Face Bar (turn right out of driveway) We ate in some more then once and would happily eat in them all again.

To get to the main strip in Sidari turn left out of the drive, follow the road, over the smelly bridge and turn left at the 3 pigs. It takes about 15 minutes at a slow stroll but we only went twice. It is very tacky and if you go in the evening you get endless leaflets and people outside the restaurants trying to get you inside, it is noisy and very busy. So unless you wanted to eat along the strip or were looking for more nightlife I would suggest visiting it during the day when it is much quieter.

There are several travel shops all selling trips much cheaper then first choice. We used Vlaseros next to the 3 pigs. You cant miss it, it is a red and yellow building and often has one of its luxury red coaches parked next door. We paid €25 per adult to Aqualand including transfers, compared to €56each for the similar trip first choice offer. Prices are at least half the price. Car hire was on offer at €20 per day and Zafiris has lots of parking spaces. There are 2 waterparks Hydropolis is smaller, less extreme slides, is closer and does an all inclusive day including ice-cream and a buffet. Ideal for smaller kids or the less adventurous.
Aqualand is about a 50 min coach ride away, bigger has more to do, lots of extreme, high thrill slides aswell as things for younger kids and less adventurous to do. We went to Aqualand and had a fantastic day. Lockers are big enough for 2 rucksacks and cost about €5. Queues weren’t too bad bearing in mind we went in peak season. I have queued longer in Asda!!!

Corfu airport on the return was not a good experience. It was like a cattle market. The checking in hall is quite small so they can only deal with so many people at a time everyone else has to wait outside, which for us was about an hour. Lucky for us it was dark so cooler, god help those during the day in high temperatures. Once inside you check in as normal, they weigh your cases which you then have to take over to a corner so they can scan them and take them away, you then have to turn around again and back to the check in desk area to pass through passport control to get in the departure lounge. Once there it is much calmer and there are a selection of shops including a not so cheap duty free and a snack bar if you want a drink or snack etc.

We had a great holiday and would not hesitate to go to the Zafiris. It really does have the best of both worlds, in a calmer area but not far from the action. However, the world is a big place and we never go to the same place twice but if you are going have a fab time just like we did.

24th june-2nd july
traveled to zafiris with my wife+our 4yr old grandaughter ,we stayed here 7yr ago with 1 of our 14yr olds+her friends+said then we"d come back again sometime ! well it was worth it to come back the place is as good now as it was then.
we had a room in block 1 ,at the foot of the slight hill near saxo bar , the room had 2 large single beds+1 sofa bed all comfortable ,tv,fridge 2 ring stove, mirowave, large wardrobes+chest of drawers, free air con ,+verandah overlooking a nice garden area
the bathroom had bath, shower, toilet(greek toilet rules)with plenty of hot water.
the room was cleaned daily+clean towels
the pool area is superb a large pool with a 2.4 mtr deep end +1.2mtr shallow end+ steps into the pool ,the fenced off kids pool was at the side of big pool+was great for 4yr olds
there were plenty of beds/loungers etc by the pool+ most people stated to arrive there around 8,30am/9am so no need to rush in morning .
there was a small kids park by the pool area ,slides, swings, tyre climbing frame ,walkways with slides+poles
the pool bar is superb+you cant ask for more friendly +helpfull staff NICKY=ANGELA
alsoTHE FOOD SERVED IS OUTSTANDING FROM PIZZA TO STIFADO /KLEFTICO
the view from the sunset resturant is fantastic overlooking the canal d mor
the little cove below is a nice break from pool side
the saxo bar at foot of the hill is a great place to finish your night off the staff friendly+talkative.
the receptionist isbubbly at all times+ quite knowlegable on the area, bus times to roda, kassiopi etc
the main beach of sidari is 10 min walk + id recommend the BIG YELLOW BOAT HIRE £30 for 15hp outboard 4 seat boat for 2 hrs+all life vests+ special size for kids, also give you a mobile if you get into trouble(never driven a boat before+its easy even the wife drove it !!) instructions on the boat for speed, rocks, etc
if you want a great beach at sax o bar turn right +walk 5 min to akripoti beach(sign posted )crystal water+ shallow for 100yds +not many tourist go there
eating out is our type of self catering + face resturant,3 little pigs are superb .+ the sunset resturant . if eat in the 3 pigs on fri/sat get there 7.30pm+ youll be on your desserts when the fire dancing+plate smashing starts unfortunatly if you get at 9pm you could wait ages as the waiters do the dancing .+the food is typial greek+very good + international food
we kept out of the main sidari strip as the general noise is to much for us nowadays but teenagers seem to have all they want there
we had a drawing done of the g/daughter for £20+had the following evening from artist by the little square/church 1/2 way down the main strip+very good
prices for beer(mythos) 2 euro/3euro ,wine 8euro a litre , 9euro/14euro a main meal on average.

wasnt expecting much when the hotel was self catering and it was october BUT was 1 of the best hols i eva had and i bn on few as of late. bus dropped us off at bottom of hill but the staff were waitin for us with mini bus to pick us up so we didnt have to walk at all. the took all our luggage (which was a lot, 7 cases) and took them all to each of our rooms. my room had 2 floors which was a first and was great if younger 1 want to go to bed and u dont have to pull bed out in sittin room. kitchen was small but it was all u needed, plenty of room. pool was very clean as was the rooms. staff were great and wery friendly. u didnt have to get off sunbed as staff would bring u drink and would look over if glass was empty and would remember what u drank and would bring another. dont get than in 5*AI. food was fab, kids only wanted a snack at lunch time so when u order a roll its like a meal, chiken salad roll ends up as salad underneath tons of chicken in hot baguette with extra salad with tons of chips on side for £3.00. cant beat that as my sister had 2 little ones which it was big enough to share. town is not far away but slight hill form hotel to main street, nothin major but incase ur eldely. the bar at bottom of hotel was good too and got play area for kids aswel. park in hotel on grass area which was good and all in sight of hotel rooms if u just want to sit on terrace then u can still keep eye. hotel puts entertainment for u and even though i went in october which was 1 week from closing the staff and food were as good as peak season. would recommend this place to any1 and i would most certainly go back even though im not 1 to go to same hotel twice i would here. thanx staff, you made me laugh everyday and thanx for keppin nephews entertained. ps i did take my daughter with me who was 14 and she was not bored in anyway at all. cheers.
