Solaris Kassiopi Apartment
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

Ive been visiting kassiopi for 12 years and I cannot say enough how amazing the village is and especially the SOLARIS apartments! Im 25 and this was our 6th time there as a couple and nothing has changed....apart from it got even better!!!
Ignore reports about the Solaris family not being welcoming, their amazing. Its such a lovely family run place with great atmosphere.

Weve seen many families over the years have their children's birthdays there and kostas and his family have always joined in the fun whether it be bringing out drinks with sparklers or playing "happy birthday" for them.
They are also VERY tolerant of children despite what a recent review has said....believe me we've seen it!

BBQ night os a massive family even and NOT TO BE MISSED, all you can eat and they mean all you can eat! Fresh salads, bread, chicken, greek sausage, pork etc....greek dancing by the solaris family, they even dance around fire!!!
All food on their menu is lovely, id recommend trying the Tango...fresh backed bread with cooked tomatoes, herbs and feta, the chef is fantastic!

Pools are cleaned daily and the overall area is lovely.
A number of weddings have been held there so it just goes to show how lovely it is.
Rooms are excellent, clean and spacious.

Would very highly recommend this resort and these apartments.

And a MASSIVE thank you to kostas, mario and the whole solaris family for making us feel so welcome as always.

Well, what an absoulote pleasure our 2 weeks at Solaris was.
The taxi from the airport, and back again was arranged by Costas and proved very efficent, and upon our ariival ( 4 of us) we were greeted by Mario at the bar and shown to our immaculate compartment, bearing in mind we arrived after midnight.
Solaris is a jewel in the center of Kassiopi, as far as im concerned and we could not have asked for better accommodation, cleanliness, attentive staff, lovely pool's , food and drinks and an overall feel good factor.
The Barbecue and traditional dancing was an excellent night with top class food.
A Nice touch was that were no hidden extras to pay for i.e Aircon, safe etc and we all had a great 2 weeks.
We used the local bus service to get about, booked a couple of trips through the English company Cosmic and enjoyed the many bars and restaurants that Kassiopi has to offer.
I would highly recomend a holiday here and i have no negative comments at all, Thankyou to Costas and the rest of the Solaris team, it was Brill.

Room Tip: We booked a superior aprtment and were not dissapointed

We visited Solaris apartments during the last week of July and the first week of August 2013. We visited as a family of four including two children aged 8 and 10. On arrival we were welcomed by Kostas, offered a drink from the bar and shown to our accommodation. We had booked a superior apartment which had basic cooking facilities and a small living area . The bedrooms are spacious with ample storage space. The air conditioning was excellent and was a great help in the July heat of 40 deg+. The external seating area is very limited and couldn't accommodate more than 2 people at any one time and would not be suitable for family dining. The apartments are throughly cleaned Mon to Fri and clean towels are provided daily. Kassiopi as a whole is well suited to families and couples with only a few bars aimed at the younger age group. However, we did get the feeling Kasipoi had seen busier times with a number of bars, hotels and gifts shops closed and boarded up, although this hadn't yet reached the tipping point where it spoilt the overall feel of the resort. Kassipoi is still a beautiful place with a lovely harbour and beach. There are many tavernas offering a full range of food and some have great views over the harbour or beach, our favorite was Kima. Solaris is a small cluster of apartments based around 2 swimming pools and one pool bar. The apartments are located central to the Kassiopi main street, harbour and beach. The pool is open to none residents, but during the day only 10-15% of sun loungers are occupied, giving a feeling of emptiness at times. The pools appear to be well maintained and provides ample room for both swimming and playing. A pool table is available at 1.5€ per. The general appearance of the whole site could do with some improvements as grass is growing on the pool terrance and in some areas the place looked unkept. see attached photos. The pool bar serves good food which is reasonably priced and of good quality. The drinks are expensive and you're not allowed to bring food or drink from your room to the pool area, one of our group was told off for bringinging a cup of coffee to the pool. The aim of this policy is to get you to pay 2€ for 150ml of coke or fanta poured from a bottle that costs as little as 1.5€ for 1.5ltr at the local shop. Small spirits (<125ml including mixer) cost 4.5€. Beers cost 3€ for a large bottle of Mythos. During our 2 week stay we were served nibbles (crisps/nuts) twice and this isn't the local norm, elsewhere we were regularly served crisps or nuts when ordering drinks. Our only gripe about Solaris is the atmosphere created by the staff. Kostas and his family don't appear to be enjoying their work and this was noted by a number of guests, sometimes creating the feeling that you're not welcome or even a hinderance. They work hard, but seem to do everything themselves and sometimes with resentment. The BBQ night is good fun, however the food is average and the salads are definitely not all you can eat as advertised. The owners use the pool bar area for family gatherings. Kostas was quick to turn off the lights in the evening, even on the BBQ night, but was happy to keep the lights on well beyond a similar time when entertaining friends. One evening, Kostas, in a very abrupt manner stopped our children playing pool at 10:45pm, whilst continuing to play music, entertain and drink with family and friends to well beyond 1am. This forced us to move back into town to entertain a group of children from 3 different families. Overall I get a feeling Solaris has seen busier times and this has rubbed off on the attitude of the staff resulting in some of the smaller details slipping. I know many people visit Solaris and swear to return, but unfortunately this wasn't our experience. You can still have a good holiday here, but there are things that happen that will disappoint even the most tolerant of holiday maker. Kids are welcome, but they don't get any special treatment and sometimes appear to annoy the owners and staff. Overall, we enjoyed our stay due to the people we met, but won't be making a quick return.

Stayed as a family end of July 13. The Solaris is a great place to stay with everything close by without realizing that your in the middle of Kassiopi. Would give it 8/10 only because the apartment we had was very dated from the 80's. Kitchen and bathroom desperately needs modernising but we had loads of space (2 bedroom apartment with lounge area and kitchen) and it would not put us off visiting again. Kostas and his sister Katrina made you feel very welcome (as did all their own family -parents and children on site). I believe they are slowly updating all the apartments but No 18 needs doing first please Kostas as we want to come back to this one !
We never had to get up early for the sunbed rush, that was the best about going on this holiday and not having to get up early to put your towels down. The people who were there at the same time were so helpful and lovely to talk to. Made many friends in the village at night as well, at different bars where they share their experience of visiting Kassoipi over and over again. You get no hassle at all from the Greek owners of the Restaurants unlike most places where they try to entice you in. Loved the internet bar called Seasons Bar which suited my son with fast free wi-fi, also the the Boloro, Dons Restuarant and NO7 in the square were the best food we had. All in all we would love to go back to the Solaris and Kassopi next year.

We recently stayed here as a family of five, having a two bedroomed superior apartment which was maintained to an excellent standard by the cleaning lady. Fresh towels every other day and beds made and floor mopped every day. She's an amazing lady, not a day off and on the bbq night (a night not to be missed) she was in the kitchen washing up! The apartments are located in a brilliant spot, away from any noise but right in the centre of the town, a 5min walk from the harbour. Pools are clean but agree with a previous review, the cleaning fluid did affect swim wear and there are plenty of sunbeds with areas of sun and shade. The children had so much fun with other guests in and around the pools, they were in them until 1915 most evenings. The food at the Solaris is fantastic and actually its amazing that all this wonderful produce is prepared in a tiny kitchen next to the bar!

Kassiopi itself is beautiful. We hired a boat one day to explore the many beautiful beaches and coves, did a bit of snorkelling and fishing, it was the best day of the holiday.

We felt safe being in a family run resort, however we did not experience the warm, friendly Greek hospitality that we experienced in many of the surrounding tavernas. I'm not sure if there were a few staffing issues as previously we have read how accommodating Kostas and Katrina are. They had to work very hard in sometimes temperatures of up to 40C and that also may have been a contributory factor. On one occasion, lights were turned off at the bar on us and we felt it was time for bed. However, from our apartment balcony, we could see the staff entertaining guests the other side of the bar! On a few occasions we were short changed at the bar, only receiving change for 5Euro note when 10 had been given. After talking to a few other guests, it had also happened to them and frankly, too many coincidences make you jump to an unfavourable conclusion. This is a massive, massive shame as the positive points far outweigh the negative we had a fantastic, relaxing holiday and we would be more than happy to return, but just be a lot more aware.

Having stayed at Solaris in kassiopi for a weeks holiday with my four year old daughter I could not have wished for better. I came home feeling I had had an holiday as well as her. Very family orientated nothing is too much trouble. Accommodation was immaculate . I felt very safe no worries about my daughter safety she was free to play and enjoy her time there. Not the sort of holiday for those of you who like a good moan. Nobody moaned about the children running around screaming or water fighting all hours rather joined in when one of the kids decided to target them. Will definitely be going back.

We stayed at Solaris and found everything perfect apart from our honeymoon sweet had two single beds in! Apparently one of the rules to abide by when incorporated as part of another service. The pools are fab and very clean. One complaint tho the cleaner they put in the pools affected our swim wear? We as a couple loved staying here as the place is near all the action but also not amongst it and quiet. We ate ate several food outlets why there Kima absolutely fantastic along with Junipers for breakfast and lunch and Jannis for evening meals. The Harbor is lovely but can get to crowded and some service is slow so we found it better to eat in kassiopi center. Our room was cleaned and left looking great,so all in all a Fab place to visit and stay

Room Tip: Ask about your room reference to two single beds being pushed together to make a double.
