Spending a day on the pebbly beach, we were pleased to find that the staff at Janis were happy for us to take our lunch down to the beach and enjoy it under a parasol! They prepared both meals and served them on foil plates, just requesting that we returned the rubbish and wine glasses when we'd finished. Impressed with their flexibility, we ate there a few evenings, once on the terrace overlooking the bay, and twice indoors, due to bad weather.
I can vouch for their king prawns in garlic cream, stifado, and a wonderful dish called 'burtheta' - chunks of filleted fish in a spicy red pepper sauce, served with a seafood risotto. My other half thoroughly enjoyed the mushroom soup and the pork steak in brandy & cream. Typically, with 2 starters, 2 mains, a beer, a bottle of water and a litre of house red, we'd spend around 60 euros.
We did push the boat out one night, and shared a huge lobster, which came with potatoes, vegetables and salad. Scrumptious for a special treat - but check the price per kilo before ordering!
We were there during an electrical storm one evening - the lightening over the sea was spectacular, but the rain came down in sheets. To keep us dry on the way home the waiter gave us heavy-duty black bin bags to wear, slitting the side to make hooded capes!
