The church of Santa Maria del Camino in Carrion de Los Condes is not only a must see because it is a beautiful Romanesque church but especially for its wonderful Pilgrim Service after the evening mass.

Nuns from the local convent provide the beautiful singing and music that accompany the mass. After the liturgy, the priest invites pilgrims to approach the altar for a blessing. A nun translates to English the blessing and prayers the priest offers for those who make the journey to Santiago. Before the end of the service, each pilgrim is given a gift of a small hand colored paper star that the nuns have made at their convent. It is a gift that they request the pilgrim to carry to remind them of their journey and as a remembrance of the blessing they received in this centuries old church where so many other pilgrims before them have come on their way to Santiago. A small gesture but so touching! I carry my star with me in my wallet to remind me of this very special moment.

The church of "Santa María del Camino" is worth to pay it a visit while you are walking the Camino.
A block far away, the Nums of Saint Agustin run a an Albergue for pilgrims. I was logded there for a night and must confess that the experience was really good. Facilities are those tipical of an Albergue so dont expect a five starts hotel.
Nonetheless, the interest and attention of the folks taking care of the pilgrims is superb. I met people for all around Europe who shared their thoughts about the Camino and the reasons why they in pilgrimage to Santiago. It was moving, rewarding and fulfilling listen to them.
Every day at the Church of Santa Maria del Camino a mass dedicated to pilgrims is held in the evening. A special blessing for them is also provided.
It must be remarked the baptizing basin inside the Church.

Bright well decorated church. Fantastically decorated dome above the altar and some splendid ceilings particularly at the opposite end to the altar.
