Hotel San Anton Abad
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 20, 2012 via mobile

It was our final stop on the 9 day pilgrimage to Santiago de compostella. After days of sleeping on the bunk beds and queueing to have a shower we decided to treat ourselves to this three star hotel and we loved it!! We soaked our tired feet and bodies in the bath, slept in the big comfortable bed and enjoyed beautiful views from the window.
We were spoiled for choice during our dinner and breakfast and we didn't want to leave when the time came.
Because of the character or our travels we didn't have huge expectations but this hotel was the whole new category. Beautiful building, interesting decor, great service and heavenly comfort.
We will come back next year to Villafranca to carry on Camino de Santiago and I'm ashamed to admit but this hotel will be our starting point...

On the main road east to Pamplona at a late hour of the day, we saw by accident a sign to this magnificent and unique hotel. It was in the small village of Villafranca de Oca, and we were extremely skeptical. Stepping inside in the middle of nowhere (at list for us…) saw almost a palace. Well…we needed a room for the night so a palace it was.

We stayed in a suite with old style furniture decorated with mirrors and flowers with a kitchy taste but so romantic that made us the happiest. The room was totally renovated and the bathroom was indeed a pampering one. It was a very enjoyable stay and surly one to memorize. The corridors in the hotel were majestic and breakfast was just fine. At the night of our arrival we didn't miss dinner that offered the local taste of Burgus, the big town west of the village.

The staff at the San Anton Abad was very courteous and supplied us with a radiator for heating when we asked for it, including a heater for the bathroom. It wasn’t winter, but the care for our heating needs was true hospitality. We loved the hotel and we do recommend it very much to whoever pass by. A wonderful surprise.

We came upon this wonderful hotel by chance while walking part of the Camino de Santiago and Really Not dog recommend it Highly enough . The location is really beautiful and the hotel itself has-been restored , with great attention to detail , by the Martin family . Above all , the hospitality , care and Attention we Received while There Was second to none . So good in fact- , We Decide to stay an extra night and avail of a service provided by the hotel owners WHERE as a guest You Can Arrange To Be Collected at the end of your day's walking and returned the Following Day To That Point to continue your walk on the Camino de Santiago. The family Also run a hostel with excellent facilities , adjacent to the hotel.

This is not only a B&B it is a wonderful Hotel which we found by chance after calling into the tourist centre in St Domingo, our previous stop on the Camino. This is a very special hotel, run by the extremely helpful and cheerful Martin family. Everything about this hotel speaks of history (it wasa hospital for pilgrims back in the 14th Century, lovingly restored over the past 3 years); relaxation (magazines and soft couches along the wide landing and hallways);excellent food in the small restaurant. We were even more pleased to learn we could be picked up at the end of the next day's walk for one more night, and brought back to the same spot the next morning. Highly recommend for Camino de Santiago pilgrims who want a more relaxed day and for non pilgrims who are looking for endulgence. By the way they also run an Albergue beside the hotel with access to the same restaurant (12 euro for 3 course meal). Great views too!
