“Beautiful Maison ziberoa, oct 18,19,20 of 2012”

Wow!!!!! never expected to find something so beautiful and comfortable in such a little town in france. It is a renovated and beautifully decorated B & B. It is in a great location, close to restaurants and shops. Our host Maire Jose who owns and runs the place is a wonderful person, very hospitable. She provided us with lots of information about the region. The breakfast she serves is amazing. The coffee is fantastic and the variety of jam( all home made, I saw her making green tomato jam) are so good. Her garden is beautiful. Marie Jose puts 100% effort to make her B & B a memorable place for her guests. There are many B & B in this little town but this is really a different one (very clean and very comfortable). We loved the place so much that we decided to stay longer. We are hoping we can go back next year again.

Stayed here with my wife in Sept 2012. Lovely house, perfect setting for strolling into St Jean Pied de Port, perfect base for visits to Pamplona and San Sebastian (only 5 miles from the Spanish border) Biarritz and St Jean de Luz and Pau and a whole host of beautiful Basque villages. A bottle of wine in the lovely walled garden in the evening. Great breakfasts, good company around the communal table and a brilliant hostess, the always helpful, always interesting Marie Josee. Will recommend to all our friends

It's a really good and comfortable B&B. A perfect place to stay before starting the Camino. The shower is great and the bed very comfortable. Our host Marie was extremely helpful. The night before we started our Camino we did not want to head out and eat dinner so she made us some great food. She also helped us by giving us her copy of the latest Brierly guide book which was out of stock in all shops. Without this guide book we would have been lost in the Camino.
However the place is a bit of a walk from the town centre but I could deal with that.

Look I feel a bit silly reviewing this place after almost a year since we stayed there but I have only just been able to find it (via another person's post) on Trip Advisor. My apologies. Anyway I agree whole heartedly with the positive reviews of this wonderful maison/B&B which my walking colleagues had booked for us sight unseen from around the other side of the world! It is comfortable, clean and very hospitable and lovely breakfast. St Jean Pied de Port is a lovely town (even in the rain of October) and if we hadn't been setting off for our walk the next day we could have stayed here a week. Be careful of the beautiful timber floors - very temping to slide around in your walking socks - but don't sprain an ankle in an untimely accident.

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic - self contained - there are only a few of them so I don't think you...

Gorgeous b& b with a wonderful host, we recommend a stop over in St Jean at Maison Ziberoa. Maree-Josee is lovely and helpful and the town is well located and picturesque.

We had 2 nights at Maison Ziberoa just before we started the camino walk. We had the best time there and Marie-Josée is an excellent hostess. She is very bright with loads of personality and nothing was too much trouble for her. The maison is spotlessly clean and very simply but beautifully decorated and very central to the main square of the town. We had a lovely dinner cooked by Marie-Josée on our first night and her breakfasts each morning were very filling with a great selection of home made jams.

We loved St Jean Pied de Port with its steep cobbled streets and would definitely like to return to explore more of the countryside around there and we would be sure to stay at Marie-Josée's maison. It is excellent value for money.

Marie-Josee was just great ! She is a very welcoming and likeable person with a positive attutude to life. From the moment we arrived until we left 5 days later she looked after us wonderfully well. She advised us on places to buy provisions, where to eat and provided us with detailed maps for our walks and drives. We had the evening meal at the communal table most nights, mostly with French guests, and she went to the trouble of ensuring that we were sat next to those with a knowledge of English.
Maison Ziberoa is a lovely old house, spotlessly clean and with good sized rooms and modern, well equipped bathrooms. The rear lawned garden was particularly welcome in the early evening as we sat there reading in the warm sunshine awaiting our evening meal. Marie-Josee provided us with a good variety of delicious hearty regional food, with wine, each evening. The breakfasts were also great, with lots of home-made jams, delicious breads and occassional home-made cake.
St Jean-Pied-de-Port is a lovely old town with narrow, steep streets, a citadel on the hilltop and a section of the old ramparts still remaining.
The Pyrenees in this area are wonderful. Very, very green when we visited in late May. We travelled for miles on narrow, twisting roads high into the mountains, with magnificent views and virtually no other traffic. On Marie-Josee`s recommendation we visited the Crevasses d`Holcarte, a series of deep gorges high in the mountains, and walked the steep path up to an amazing suspension bridge spanning the gorge. We also had visits to the coast, loved San Sebastian (their tapas bars make the English versions look poor cousins, and the prices are very reasonable), the beautiful sandy beach at St-Jean-de-Luz and the pretty village of Ainhoa.
Altogether we thoroughly enjoyed out stay at Maison Ziberoa and have no hesitation in recommending it as a base for exploring this lovely part of France and Spain.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This residence with harmonious proportions and beautiful luminosity owes its name to its slate roof, characteristic to the Soule province. The House anchors near the gates of ramparts of the so picturesque town of Saint Jean Pied de Port, mythical stopping place of the pilgrims of Santiago de Compostela (Saint Jacques de Compostelle). From there, within a radius of one hour, you can discover the Basque Coast, make a Spanish escapade or say Hello to the South Peak of Ossau (Pic du Midi d'Ossau). From the entrance, heart of the house, to the pink sandstone paving, flies away the staircase towards rooms. In the early hours, your shutters will open on the garden or on the slopes of the Arradoy covered with the vineyards on Irouleguy. Chestnut wooden floor, whitewash, river shingle walls contribute to a feeling of serene sobriety. In the book corner with patina woodwork, hearts and stars radiate in marquetry, delicate symbol of well being. The big oak table calls for the sharing of a seasonal tasty and simple cuisine. For your hostess, Ziberoa is a story of love at first sight when dicovering EUSKARA's landcapes and culture. They are waiting for you for a day time or for a full life. ... more   less
