This original and charming bed and breakfast is in the delightful village of St Jean Pied de Port in the Pyrenees, close to one of the starting points of the "Camino de Santiago" and is an absolute hidden gem! I stumbled across its website (worth a look just for the photography) and we booked and stayed for a brief but memorable visit during our 'railway pilgrimage' to Santiago de Compostela. We were in the "Sunset room" with its dear little balcony and views across the valley; it was comfy and attractively furnished in a cheerful and homely style, with a sparkling new en-suite. Our stay began with a relaxing glass of wine on the terrace looking out over the village and mountains beyond, and a friendly conversation with Tim, the welcoming owner and host. We felt immediately at ease, and he was most helpful with tips about places to eat and what to see and do, as well as fascinating information about the area and its history. Breakfast was a delicious feast with fresh local goodies and plenty of it. Best of all is the location, on a very quiet road, with walks from the door - all the way through to Spain if you wish! and you can be 'green' and get there by train as we did. We were very sorry to leave after only a few days - hope to go back there sometime very soon !
