“Mermaid’s Ridge” was a wonderful place to stay, and my family and I had a blast during our trip. The building was lovely, with fun island decorations and plenty of sitting space. The island was absolutely gorgeous, and everything was within walking distance. From our house, the docks were less than a mile down the road, and it was a 5-minute walk to the beach. The Atlantic Ocean could be seen out the upper windows of the house, and the sound of crashing waves and birds created an ambiance of calm quiescence. The trees protected you from the wind that came off the ocean and the Sea of Abaco, but you could still hear it rushing through the tops of the palm trees. I don’t think I’d ever felt so peaceful. Hope Town was just over a mile’s walk away. Everything was close and colorful, and many of the houses looked bright and cheerful. Most mornings, we’d get up and go to the docks (we rented a boat) to start a new adventure. The water was a brilliant blue and so clear that it was almost like glass. It was impossible to look around and not be in awe of how beautiful it is. I loved to sit in the boat and listen to the waves and feel the wind on my face. Everything here was serene and made you feel very calm and peaceful. My favorite place that we went to was “Mermaid’s Reef.” The cove is well known for snorkeling and an incredible experience. The day we went, the water was freezing! Even so, it was definitely worth it. The fish were amazing to look at; watching them swim around was mesmerizing and a great way to get a good look at some of the wildlife. Also, a good trick to get the fish to come near is to spray a can of cheese whiz into the water (the fish love to eat it!). Coming here was a wonderful way to relax and get away from the stress back home.
