We went there on our way to Wellington in late afternoon. The place was huge with additional basement to visit. We were almost by ourselves as there wasn't much visitors in that afternoon. It was fun seeing how the cars evolved over the decades with some weird designs and car logos. The cars were parked in hundreds to thousand.

The entry price at $10 is pretty affordable. Anyone who are on their way to or from Wellington passing by SH1 state highway should pay a visit for an enjoyable day.

I would recommend Southward Car Museum to anyone at all interested in older cars - kids love the place. One of the finest car museums I have ever visited.

Southwards Museum is well worth a visit whether you are a car enthusiest or not. Some amazing old cars to browse around with a lot of history written about some.
You would need minimum of 2 hours there and it is definitely worth it and not an expensive entry fee.

Southwards Museum has an enormous collection of vehicles which is quite unique for New Zealand. It takes one back to a more nostalgic period of history, for those who are ionteerested there are pits so you can see the workings of these cars. There is also a very nice cafeteria upstairs and a theathre where different shows come to perform , such as Gilbert and Sullivan , Jonhn Rowles has sung here and many others too. The accoustics of this theatre are very good , enhancing the shows. It is an impressive place for visitors.

This is the most amazing and fascinating collection of cars and bikes which are all maintained in working condition. Set in beautiful grounds allow more time than you think you will need as you are guaranteed to be carried away by the vehicles which are all lovingly restored and maintained.
