“A great B&B we found on the way to Venice”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

Al Ponticello was a nice surprise we found in Comacchio, a small town on the way to Venice. The owner was really friendly and provided us with useful information on the region, especially about natural areas where we could observe wildlife, places to eat, and things to do. The building is new, rooms and bathrooms are comfortable and the general environment is great, including Comacchio itself.

We had read about Comacchio in a guide book and decided to stop over. It was well worth it. Riccardo sent us to the boat trip on the river delta as soon as we arrived. We were the only English speaking passengers, but the guides translated just for us. The history of the eel industry was fascinating. The b and b is easy enough to find and has its own parking. The rooms are very comfortable and it's right on a canal.

I can only concur with the other positive reviews below. The hosts are wonderfully friendly and informative, nothing seems too much trouble. I enjoyed my eel for breakfast, served with the traditional red wine. Comacchio is an unusual place, worth a stopover.

I really enjoyed my two nights at Al Ponticello. Comacchio is a sweet little town full of bridges and canals. Riccardo (and his other half) were both very welcoming and full of good suggestions. They were quick to offer good advice about the local sights, boat trips and birdwatching. Do go on a boat trip on the river Po delta - you will see hundreds of flamingos !

My room overlooked the canal and was spacious with a pleasant ensuite and a handy minibar. Also a mozzie blind at the window stopped the little biters getting in at night (although you may want to bring mozzie repellant if you go out to eat in the evening near a canal...) Breakfast was excellent, and you could have as much coffee as you liked.

The B&B is about 5 minutes walk from the bus stop for buses from Ferrara or Ravenna, so it's easy to get to by public transport. All in all, a great place to stay

We stayed longer than planned in Comacchio because Al Ponticello was such a delight. Just stepping outside was a step into Italian romance. We can't wait to get back.

Room Tip: Get a Rommel overlooking the canal!

lovely ricardo is the perfect host. I've been to ponticello with a friend, a girl's trip for my birthday.
it couldn't have been better.
the b&b is very neat, sweet, quiet. we were welcomed by ricardo, who immediately offered coffee. what a treat after a long drive. he explained everything we asked for, suggested things to do, explained us the ways, suggested restaurants and his favourite place at the beach. it was perfect.
comacchio is very sweet, small town. at the end of september you're not going to find any parties there, but if you just want to relax and enjoy the peace of a secluded retreat, it's magnificent.
we enjoyed every minute of it. the beach is nice, it was totally empty and the 'lido di spina' - where you find it - made us feel like in an old italian movie from the 1920s. beautiful white buildings, beneath huge pine trees. broad streets, little people. I expected to see young sophia loren.
the home away from home we found is a jewel. the room was beautiful, vast, clean, huge bathroom (important for girls), view to the clock tower and the little bridges. and it smelled so nice!
ricardo even offered us coffee and cake in the afternoon, when we were starving and all the restos were closed (well-informed tourists trying to have lunch at 3 pm in Italy...) I would love to come back and have a chat with ricardo, and walk around comacchio, and enjoy a beautiful sunset at the beach again.

It was the first week of a 3 month trip away from New Zealand. Our luggage was lost. We needed a doctor, and we had unfinished legal business requiring printing, faxing, witnessing and the rest. Cue Ricardo the problem-solver. Within a few days he had everything fixed for us and had us all set for the rest of our holiday.
Al Ponticello and Commachio are as charming as the owners of this excellent accommodation, which is clean, comfortable and stylish. We would have been happy to stay for longer than a week in the apartment. There's lots to do and see. We especially enjoyed cycling the Valli. The breakfasts are to write home about!
