Le Vasa is a very beautiful resort - with gorgeous, huge, well appointed fales, an amazing view out to the aquamarine sea, a lovely pool and nice meals. if you're looking for a place to go for your honeymoon, or a weeks retreat from the world - this is the place.
If, however, you've got young kids, or you're looking for a Samoan cultural experience, look elsewhere. The hotel is not really set up for kids - there are hazards everywhere, no highchairs, the design of the pool makes it hard for young ones to frolic in (theres no shallow end), and the beach is more mud than sand. In terms of a Samoan experience - you'll stay in amazing luxury fales, but beyond that there is not much particularly Samoan about this resort. You can pay to go on an (expensive) tour of the island or for other cultural experiences.
While the restaurant, bar and maid staff were very friendly and helpful, the check-in was cursory, and was markedly less hospitable than other places we have stayed in Samoa. We felt as though we had checked into a nameless, faceless large commercial hotel - which is very unusual in Samoa. We also felt a certain sense of disdain - possibly linked to the fact we had a child with us.
That being said...
The grounds were gorgeous - well-maintained gardens skirt the amazing view, complete with coconut palms which have had the coconuts removed so as not to surprise a visitor with a trip to emergency at the local hospital. Strategically placed hammocks make the most of the view, and the pool is refreshing and well-placed, with views out to sea wherever you sit. The fales are really something special - comfy beds, lots of space, a living area with an extra bed to recline and read on. Each fale has a balcony which looks out to sea, a fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, and nice bathrooms.
Nice as the hotel is, it was expensive compared to other places in Samoa. Room rates are at the high end, and food while delicious, was really expensive - which is tough as there are no alternatives outside the hotel. Apia is a 45 minute drive away.
Overall - I would recommend this hotel to couples looking for a getaway, for whom cultural interest is not so important; families and those seeking a bit of interaction with the warm, hospitable Samoan people should go elsewhere.
