Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: A holiday in Jersey is not complete without a visit to Jersey War Tunnels to learn about and experience one of the most difficult periods in the Island’s history. The story of the German Occupation of Jersey is as compelling as it is strange to think that this small area of Britain was Occupied by the Nazis and forced to fly the Swastika for five dark years. The Jersey War Tunnels are no ordinary museum, they are an unforgettable experience. Dug deep into the hillside within St Peter’s Valley, the Tunnels were originally intended to be a barracks and ammunition store for the occupying forces. Today they tell the story of the Occupation, looking at how all sides coped under such extreme conditions and examining the daily dilemmas that were faced by island residents and the authorities, whether Jersey, British or German.Outside the Tunnels, you can enjoy quiet moments in the Garden of Reflection or a woodland walk along the historic War Trail. Refresh yourself in the Pantry Cafe or enjoy the shop and craft activities in LoveBird Too.

Very busy when we got there as a few coaches arrived, we joined the queue, it moved slowly until a lady said we could move along as some people were stuck reading and looking at photos on the wall.
Very interesting and very realistic, we spent about two hours, it was chilly and that made it more real. Everyone was very quiet, very moving.
Nice coffee shop at the end to finish off.

Thank Judy K

We visited on a rainy day in September, not too crowded and easy to park - free.
The tunnels are full of interesting information regarding the situation faced by islanders during WW2 with some personal stories from people who lived through the time. There were less individual accounts and information than we expected and rather more detail that was at a general level rather than a personal one. More personal stories relating to individuals who lived through the occupation (as can be found for instance on Reg's Garden website) would have added to the interest level.

spent nearly 3 hours inside the tunnels , very interesting and thought provoking , made you realise just how are hard times were in jersey under german rule , take the time to read all the information boards to make the experience complete , outside the tunnels there is a lovely restaurant serving great food and extensive range of drinks , be sure to wander through the gardens ... all in all well worth a visit

Fascinating and informative and wondering why this information was not included in the World War 2 history which I did at O Level. The personal stories told through "talking heads" made it very personal, The lovely café at the end was an added bonus

This is a return visit..last visited 20 years ago..many improvements...much less emphasis on the horror of it all..seems to have had to be politically correct now which deminshes from how truly awful it all was..
