Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: A holiday in Jersey is not complete without a visit to Jersey War Tunnels to learn about and experience one of the most difficult periods in the Island’s history. The story of the German Occupation of Jersey is as compelling as it is strange to think that this small area of Britain was Occupied by the Nazis and forced to fly the Swastika for five dark years. The Jersey War Tunnels are no ordinary museum, they are an unforgettable experience. Dug deep into the hillside within St Peter’s Valley, the Tunnels were originally intended to be a barracks and ammunition store for the occupying forces. Today they tell the story of the Occupation, looking at how all sides coped under such extreme conditions and examining the daily dilemmas that were faced by island residents and the authorities, whether Jersey, British or German.Outside the Tunnels, you can enjoy quiet moments in the Garden of Reflection or a woodland walk along the historic War Trail. Refresh yourself in the Pantry Cafe or enjoy the shop and craft activities in LoveBird Too.

Took my wife who has an electric wheelchair and grandauter. Free disabled parking and the whole site is fully wheelchair accessible. You can even hire an electric scooter for the visit. The tunnels are unbelievable and you can either read about each section or hire a talking guide ( like an Ipod) as you walk round. There are lots of short video films on your route showing what happened.
After the tunnels the on site cafe has home made cakes and various sandwiches both hot and cold.
As a smoker I was pleasantly surprised to find smoking allowed in the outside cafe areas but for obvious reasons not inside the tunnels. Prices were very reasonable (for Jersey ) and the food excellent. Staff are extremely helpful and polite and the gift shop has lots of things at reasonable prices.
The only thing I could moan about is there is no discount for disabled guests but students and pensioners do get a discount.
Despite this I would urge everyone to see this when they visit Jersey it's a real eye opener.

An excellent insight for all generations to see the highs and lows that humanity can both endure and perpetrate. The displays are easy to follow and show the true story of Jersey's occupation by the Nazis.Allow a minimum of approx 2 hours to get a good idea of what took place but if you like going into detail a longer visit might be needed. If you travel by bus make sure you are aware of timetable as the 2 buses that serve the Tunnels as they are not the most regular of services.

This is certainly a historic record of events that took place in the Channel islands during the 2nd WW. Easy to spend a couple of hours wandering throughout the tunnels. There is plenty for everyone to stand before, look at, and wonder why we do these things. Tunnels are easy to navigate. You may need a cardigan or jumper if you feel the cold easily. Café is an ideal place to catch a cuppa and reflect upon things. Café wall has examples of people that were imprisoned or just simply disappeared.
Very highly recommended.

Getting to the venue is simple from anywhere on the island. Often part of a holiday package. Buses call regularly. There is an old vintage bus that runs from just outside the Pomme D`or hotel at St Helier Esplanade and back again. Just the thing to get you in the mood for the 40`s.
