We stayed here for two days. When we check-out, we found our money, mp4, and telephone are stolen. We are sure that somebody has come to our room since the fan is closed and there are some clean towel. We told the staff, but her said nothing and do not care about this affair. We required to call for the policeman, but the staff said their hotel will charge 20 Bht for one minute for a telephpne call. It's very ridiculous. !! we are very unhappy. Be careful of this hotel. The staffs are not responsible.

Even though the rooms were simple, the staff were wonderful and we loved being back from the beaches a bit in the tranquil garden surrounding. Excellent price & service. While we were there we met two families who were sad they hadn't booked earlier (and so the place was full), who just stopped in to say hi. They kept our valuables in a safe up front and were just the most helpful and sweet hosts! --KC

Myself and 2 mates stayed here for 4 nights in March 2009 whilst travelling around Southeast Asia and couldn't fault the place. I liked it so much I returned when passing back through Koh Samui in September that year! Lovely gardens and a nice quiet retreat, but still very close to the bars etc in Chaweng (about 30 baht per person down the road in a songthaew if I remember right).

Very reasonably priced rooms (particularly given the generally higher prices in Koh Samui than other places in Thailand) - we went for the air con option which was obviously very welcome in the heat!

Location is actually very good - just walk over the road and through the Corto Maltese bungalows to get to the beach (where we also spent a few afternoons chilling out at their very nice pool, which the owners seemed fine with as long as we spent a little money buying drinks/snacks... useful as the Baan Rom Mai itself doesn't have a pool).

Very friendly service on both my visits as well, with a very homely feel. Fast (and air conditioned!) internet access on site as well.

All in all, highly recommended.

My husband and I had a great stay at Baan Rom Mai. The room and bathroom were quite large. The food was great and the location was great too, just a short walk to a very nice beach.

stayed in a fan-room bungalow. no hot shower. there's internet and a supermarket right next to it. its on the end of chaweng beach and rather quiet but still near enough from the main stuff. make sure you use the doorchain at night, there are obviously a couple of thieves around all over samui. the beach is just over the street in a distance of maybe 50metres. really fair price. o blanket, so take a sleepin bag inlet with you or purchase it from the hotel for some money. clean
went there with a pickup service from the hotel..... they charge you 400bh for it!! tho t worked very well.
nice staff

This place was great value at 750b per night (£15), and despite the fact it was not on the beach it was merely a two minute walk accross the road to the quiet but beautiful North Chaweng.
The problem with Koh Samui is the number of high end resorts right on the beach, which makes it more tourist friendly than traveller friendly, so we were pleased to be out of the middle of the action.
The staff were friendly, we were givena free towel every day, and the room was basic but comfortable. Take some deet with you as you will be targeted by mosquitos, especially as the cheaper rooms have fans rather than air con.
And there is a travel agent directly accross the road to book trips and arrange transport.
And DO NOT leave Koh Samui without visiting Ang Thong Marine National Park - I simply could not believe my eyes. You'll know what I mean!!

The small Hotel is approx. 10-15 minutes walk to the centre of the main bars etc and approx. 10 mins from the airport. It is perhaps a little far out from the main drag but it was not a problem and belive me there are enough taxi's to take you right in ! We had one of the 6 bungalws - which were simple but spacious enough and very clean and comfortabe. The cleaning and towel replacement service etc was very good. It was a quiet location. The staff were very friendly and helpful on all occasions. They also have internet and laundry service. They also have a cool little lobby area outside where you can relax etc. The beach can be accessed directly opposite - 2 mins, however, the beach is better approx. 5-10 minutes towards town. We paid 1100 bhat per night and stayed for 6 nights with no hassle or problems. There is also a very nice and reasonably priced restuarant halfway to town called Prego which we visited 3 times - recommend this place - also a good halfway stop on walk to town. Also recom. Solo, Coco. Mango, Legend bars.

  • Liked — Bungalows and service.
  • Disliked — Their idea of a 'Safe' did not seem too secure !! Muddy entrance if had rained.
