Everything in this hotel is right, design, service, staff, location, food, beds, bathrooms. Most impressive as I have stayed in many very good resorts and hotels but this takes it one step further than all others. Breakfast on the beach, food worth of two hats and staff friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great experience. Great value, just a few bugs in the room but you are in Asia and expect that.

Room Tip: choose an upstairs room.

We stayed at the hotel in the beginning of the year and it was absolutely perfect! The hotel is fantastic, very modern, very clean, the staff is amazing, the food is delicious and the pool is surprisingly beautiful with red-ish and yellow-ish color. I loved the hotel. Its a small hotel, however you are treated always as a special guest. They have a Library where you can take books or watch a movie in your room. The bar at the beach makes you feel sooo relaxing, specially with the good music and the BEST MARGHERITAS ever! If you go to the hotel, try their cocktails - yummy! They also have the "breakfast on bed at the beach" it's a MUST when you visit the hotel - but you have to book one day in advance - it's a great experience. I absolutely loved the hotel. SUPER recommend to everyone!

I've been yesterday night to the Library to have a drink with several friends. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff of the bar, helped by the amazing trainee Juan David, did their best to live up to our expectations. I would like to thank them all for their kindness and for helping us to organize a little surprise for my friend!
Everything was perfect and this hotel worth to be seen as it is unique in Samui.

I just returned from a great 5 day stay in The Library. This was my second time in Samui (first time around I stayed in Bophut in a great property (Hansar Samui) but the beach in Bophut is awful and not swimmable)… hence this time we decided to stay in The Library since we visited the first time and saw that the beach was truly stunning…

I will start with the positive, leaving the negatives for the end, then you will understand the reason for my rating:

Beach: To me, this is the highlight of the hotel, aside from the design and concept. The Library has a privileged location in front of one of the most beautiful (if not the best) beaches in Thailand… white sand, cristal clear waters, stunning turquoise/ green colours, very swimmable, no waves… truly a delight… if you like beach, you will love it…

Service: All staff, from check-in desk to security, but including also gardeners, waiters, bar tenders, etc. are extremely professional, efficient and friendly.. they showed this professionalism many times throughout our stay…

Public areas: The restaurant (The Page), The Library and the Pool Area are truly stunning and kept in pristine condition… the set a special arrangement for the beach bar after 5 pm which is quite cool for a chilled out soiree… The gym is also ok with a stationary bike, treadmill and free weights, limited but you have all the basics covered…. the bar outside the hotel (Drinks Gallery) is also super cool!

Food: We had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the hotel and we were never disappointed by variety, taste or presentation… breakfast was included and loved the concept, part of it is an open buffet with fresh juices, milk, yogurt, fresh fruits, pastries, breads (best in Thailand maybe), jams, cereals, cold cuts and cheese… then there is also an a la carte menu with eggs, thai dishes, waffles or pancakes… no lines or queues or fighting for a table, all the operation is quite smooth… similarly for lunch and dinner, they have a Western and an Eastern Menu with plenty of items and prices… you can have lunch and dinner by the beach, by the pool or in the restaurant…

Beverages: We tried the cocktails from the beach bar and were really happy with them, great taste and presentation and during happy hour you get 2 for around 300 thb in a lovely setting…

Density: This is a really boutique property with only 26 rooms, which helps to have a very personalised experience and never having to worry about securing a lounger by the pool, by the beach or a table at breakfast, which we absolutely loved…

Room: The room is huge! we stayed in the cheapest available room (studio) which was on the second floor and because of the design (plain white and no furniture) the room feels really huge, which is positive… there is a small hall, a big dressing room/sink area, a huge bathroom are (see below) a terrace (which you hardly ever use) and the sleeping/lounge area… be mindful that the studio rooms are not for families with kids or those with reduced mobility since the staircase is not very friendly…

Now, moving to the negatives (some of them not entirely the hotel’s fault):

Bathroom: To me, this is the biggest downside of the entire experience… we had room Page 8, which is on the second floor… the bathroom area has the toilet and the shower in the same area with no partition, which is very inconvenient because if you want to use the toilet after showering you will have to step (or slip!) on wet floor, which is not ideal… not only that, the toilet is old old old and the bathroom area itself is tired and dated, there are no tiles or marble, only polished concrete with a layer of paint on top… the problem is that the paint is peeling all over the place and the color (eggshell-ish) is awful.. there is only a tiny window, just for light since it does not open, which you have to have closed with a shades because it faces the stairs and the other window (free peep-show) to make things worse, there is an aluminium sliding door that looks cheap and dated, the typical fixture of 1* hotels and hostels… the bathtub is huge but it looks dirty and it is stained… If you can see past it, it is fine, because everything works, water pressure is good and toiletries provided are great… However, this is a 10,000 THB a night property, hence I expect high quality and attention to detail and this bathroom is completely unacceptable… they really need to do a big renovation to this area… I checked other rooms and the bathroom was even worse, at least this one in Page 8 was recently painted…

Ants: On our first night and in subsequent nights, we had severe issues with ants (big mean ones) coming from the bathroom as well, in particular at night, which was extremely annoying specially since the bed is on the floor… the staff was quite diligent and apologetic and came to clear and remove the ants as many times as required, but I believe this should not happen to begin with…

Area: As other reviewers have mentioned, Chaweng is the seedy area in Samui, full of cheap shops and bars, hence the street right outside the hotel is not very inviting, it DOES smell like sewage and the clientele can be rude… we had no issues at all because the hotel is truly a small heaven with beautiful gardens and relaxing music, but be weary… not really inviting for a night stroll or exploring the area… but you can have lovely walks on the beach during the day or at night…

Noise: The adjacent hotel and other properties host techno parties until quite late, hence noise may be an issue… this is not entirely the hotel’s fault but be mindful as well.. we only had issues 1 night with the hotel next door doing renovation works at 6:30 am (no kidding!)….

Light: The rooms have double shades that do not block 100% daylight, hence if you are a light sleeper, bring a mask… it did not bother us but to same people it may…

Design: This can be a highlight or the weakness of the property… in the room, there is basically no decoration, just the mattress on the floor, a cool light cube, a small coffee table and a red sofa… end of story… the problem is that our sofa, originally bright orange color, was completely faded by sunlight and stained in many places… I am perfectly fine with the “simple is beautiful” concept, but it has to be executed to perfection because there are no additional distractions to the eye… we loved though the Mac on the bedroom and the big TV with movies and youtube access…

Even if at the beginning I was quite disappointed of the state of the bathroom, the ants and the noise, at the end we had a fantastic fantastic time, mostly because of the beautiful beach, the amazing service and the food… I would certainly consider returning to The Library IF the bathrooms are renovated or they reduce the rates…

Room Tip: Studio rooms (cheapest room) located on the second floor offer more privacy and living space...

We spent 5 days at the Library this May with our 21 months son. We had a wonderful stay. Excellent service by all staff. They have all been very friendly and attentive with us and our son. Great food at The Page for both lunch and dinner. Nice breakfast, not many choices but of good quality. Couples may enjoy their special breakfats on the beach. We loved the design of the ground and the room, and of course the red swimming pool. Good location, 15-20 minutes by taxi to excellent restaurants. We like to mention H Bistro at Hansar Samui, Saffron at Banyan Tree and Tree Top at Anantara Lawana. All worth a visit for their great food, service and beautiful setting. Chaweng beach is nice, we really enjoy our morning walk along the shore. We would personally recommend this area rather than the Laguna in North Chaweng, as the beach and the sea in this central part are cleaner and nicer. Some people may find the jet ski annoying but it's not so bad. If you travel with a baby or kids, I would recommend to choose the Suite at ground floor. We had a Studio upstair but for sure the ground floor option would have been better. We have been travelling extensively in Asia for the past 8 years and can honestly say this is one of the nicest hotel we have been to.

Room Tip: if you travel with a baby or kids, I would recommend to choose the Suite at ground floor we had room n. 8 (Studio upstair) and was very quite.
