“Cute little paradise”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We stayed for 10 nights in Sans Souci Samui, a cute small hotel that is located perfectly in south Chaweng. We had one of the 2 more expensive rooms that are directly on the beach. We got the older one with a nice veranda from which you reach the sea in about 10 steps. There are not many accommodations directly on the beach like this! The room was nice and the bed big, atmosphere and decorations authentic Thai. The resort is not very luxurious, but still comfortable and with a personal touch. If wished, breakfast was served at our veranda. Sitting there on a more quiet and clean part of the beach felt like being in paradise at times. We did not miss a swimming pool because the warm sea was perfect for us. Breakfast was regular and lunch/dinner was nice & tasteful. Perfect location for those who like some more peace and quitness during their holiday. About half an hour walking to the busy and noisy centre of Chaweng for more vibrance. The veranda of our room could have some more maintenance. A sweet and nice small gem in Koh Samui!

Spent 3 heavenly days juz chilling next to the beach which was literally 10 steps away from our garden bungalow. This stretch of beach is the best in Chaweng with the sand getting coarse the further north you go and the beach getting rockier. The beach here is shaded by two huge trees, the sand is so soft, your feet sink into it and the sea so gentle and calm, you walk out 2m and it is just about waist level. There is even a massage hut next to the resort on the beach : )

The restaurant serves really good Pad Thai and other breakfast dishes. The rooms were spacious, clean and the beds huge [2 beds pushed together for our one larger than king sized bed].

There are quiant, small pubs and eateries just outside the resort. It is abit of a walk to the heart of Chaweng, about 25-30 minutes to Ark Bar. But after spending the whole afternoon lying by the beach, tanning and getting massages, it was good to have some exercise : )

We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. As long-time residents of Thailand, we appreciate the low-key atmosphere and helpful staff. A short walk away from the hubbub of the main Chaweng strip, the beach at San Souci is clean and peaceful. The hotel has pleasant staff, and you can get an excellent, low-cost Thai massage on the beach right at the hotel. Good Thai food with a chef from Isaan, so the Northeastern dishes on the menu are authentic.

Room Tip: Our room was a little dark this time--check and see if the room you book has a direct view onto the...

The Good: Very beautiful hotel, properly maintained, not too crowded, decent-condition rooms, good food at the attached restaurant.

The Bad: Only the manager speaks ANY English, and he disappears throughout the day. Refused to offer any help with arranging transport to the ferry unless we paid them money for their time, the phone call (50 baht for the call), and then charged us 500 baht just to drive us to the ferry. Lied to us on a few occasions. Let several mosquitos into our room when the maids came and we spent a good amount of time swatting them. Refused to help us do generally anything, especially the VERY unfriendly young assistant manager who knows almost zero English. The hotel is very far away from the exciting night-life areas...unwalkable in fact. Fireworks went off at the neighboring hotel at all hours of every night leading to very little sleep.

Story: When we first arrived, the manager and his assistant were very friendly. The manager speaks good English and everything was fine. Things quickly turned ugly though when we asked them (in a very pleasant tone filled with pleases and thank yous) to simply help us order a pizza because my friend and I become a bit sunburned that day. The manager had disappeared (again) leaving us with the assistant manager who rolled her eyes at every question and basically refused to help us even though she understood what we were asking for. The next day my friend became "mysteriously" ill directly after eating the breakfast there. After that point the manager and all staff became VERY hostile, and we received no help with ANYTHING. Let me point out again that my friend and I went out of our way to smile, use pleasant tones, and use very polite language around all staff members. The staff even lied to us on a few occasions, the last being when the manager told us he would personally drive us to the ferry the morning of our departure. That morning he was nowhere to be found, or anyone who spoke even a word of English. The driver didn't understand English, and we almost missed our ferry. The almost failed ride cost us about 600 baht alone.

Summary: This is a good place to stay if you are waiting for another hotel to open up for one night max. I HIGHLY recommend that you do not ask them for ANYTHING, or you will be met with extreme hostility, or "accidentally" food poisoned like my friend. Also beware, they will charge you quite a bit for anything, even a local phone call. You have been warned!

Room Tip: Ask the manager to see all available rooms before deciding. Check the rooms for mosquitoes first, an...

We stayed in this small hotel for five nights at the end of January 2012. We booked through booking.com and prepaid our stay. We booked our room in October 2011 with breakfast and a balcony with seaview. It seemed to us though that the hotel was confused about our booking and had given our room to someone else. The room on the second floor of the main building we were shown did have a balcony – but the sea views were effectively blocked by another building’s roof and the balcony had no roof to provide shelter from the sun. It is as if the owner/manager knew that this room would not be acceptable. He agreed to a room upgrade (at no cost to us) in another building on the ground floor. The room was larger and we did have a limited sea view. The room's patio was nicely sheltered. It was very windy the whole time we were there limiting our ability to swim on the beautiful beach.

The room was very clean, airy and bright. The bed was quite firm but king-size. The bathroom had a nice shower with hot water on demand and a good water flow. The sink in the bathroom did not have hot water. The overall cleanliness of the room, the grounds and the beach impressed us.

The owner/manager, when asked, brought morning coffee to our patio. Breakfast was the same every day, freshly cooked and nice and hot. Language sometimes did interfere. We thought we had asked to replace the eggs with a banana pancake, which is doable. Both were brought and we were billed for the pancake. It was worth the price paid though. There was no additional cost for the extra coffee on the patio.

Our first room was available for only three nights so we needed to move further away from the beach.

We would recommend this hotel for its peacefulness, its location right on the beach, great collection of English-language books for exchange, full breakfast and pleasant staff. We booked an airport transfer with the hotel, which was priced right and waiting for us at the airport. This hotel does not take Visa – only cash transactions (unless you book on-line through an internet company).

Have been here many times and will continue doing so. Bo, the former-manager, isn't around anymore. Seems like all the staff, who have been around for ages, have taken over a bit of the management. Such a relaxing place with the the most kind staff. Allways geniun smiles, nothing is to much for them. Great joking around with them. Note that finally the prices of their food (food only) have gone up. Still very reasonable though. Hope this place stays, since hotels in the neighboorhood are getting bigger aand bigger and more inpersonal every time I return.

We stayed at the Sans Souci for 5 nights with friends, it is located right at the quiet end of the busy chaweng beach. This was perfect for us as it was very quiet and peacefull with just a short walk to where all the bars and restaurants are.
The beach front bungalow we stayed in was very spacious clean and well appointed with a lovely big balcony area where our breakfast was served daily.
The food served here was some of the best we had and very inexpensive.
The staff were very attentive and nothing was too much of a problem, credit must go to the manager who looked after us perfectly.
Well Done Sans Souci we look forward to seeing you all again!
