Just got back today after three weeks in Thailand. Spent eight days on Koh Samui and stayed at Baan Chaweng on Chaeweng beach- having been a frequent traveller to South East Asia for 25 years I was looking forward to the same friendly atmosphere I have experienced before in Thailanad and Indonesia, but sadly I was VERY disappointed with the attitude of the staff at this hotel. I booked the accomodation 6 months earlier, and had agreed on a price of 3800 per night for a room for myself, husband and two young children, (and had paid a deposit based on this), however when we turned up at reception after our flight from Australia and then BKK, we were told there would be an extra 1000 baht per night added for an extra bed, even though they were well aware that there were four of us in the room at the time of booking. I was most unhappy and 'negotiated' with them, but there is not much you can do when you have two small tired chilren with you. It was only a few days later that I found my email correspondence that clearly stated that cost of 3800 was for the four of us- when my husband took this information to reception the manager couldn't have cared less, admitting that they had made a mistake but that they would do nothing about it, stating that upon arrival I had agreed to their 'negotiated' price. I would have to say that the whole eight days we met with rude and indifferent staff- on one day a member of our group accidentally broke a drinking glass and we were ruldely told by the waiter that we would be charged 60 baht to replace it. Another day a friend politely asked a waiter to remove some plates and was told very rudely that it wasn't his job, and to go and get someone on the beach to do it- this is not what I expect when I am paying over $140 per night to stay in a hotel. So, if you want an experience which is tainted with rudeness by all means go ahead, but for my money I would never stay there again.

We booked the hotel through a travel agent and chose it because of the reviews on Trip Advisor. The brochures do not have many hotels in Ko Samui but there are lots of good, small hotels on the beach. The Trip Advisor reviews are very accurate and we are so glad we chose this hotel. It is classed as a 3* but I would say it is a 3*+. Extremely clean and neat everywhere. There are so many staff and they are so efficient - it seems to be the trend in all hotels/bars/restaurants. We booked a standard room which was spacious and so was the bathroom. Clean sheets and towels every day and free water. The gardens are very troplical and lush and hotel is right on the beach and a few minutes walk to the main road where there are lots of bars and restaurants. Lots of restaurants and a few bars on the beach also and its great to go barefoot along the beach at night. We will definitely stay there again - an excellent hotel in an excellent location.

This was our second stay at the Baan Chaweng and again we had a great time

We booked via Sawadee. We booked a superior building room which are a good size, clean and tidy.

Gardens at the hotel are gorgeous and so well looked after.

Staff are wonderful so friendly, wonderful service, always smiling. Everyone you encounter during the day from reception, waiters, cleaning staff have a smile and say hello

Beach front massages are so cheap and so relaxing.

Baan Chaweng is a great hotel for the price, further North are some gorgeous hotels but the beach is not as nice. This hotel is in such a good location, great area of the beach, you can snorkel just to the left of the beach and right in the centre of Chaweng for resturants, shopping and nightlife

The hotel is down a very short road off the main road going though Chaweng which has numerous bars, restaurants, tailors and massage parlours on it. Good nightlife!
The hotel grounds were gorgeous. Lovely well cared for gardens, lots of interesting wildlife, a fish pond with fountains! No mosquitoes. The hotel seemed to do regular spraying of the resort. The hotel beach was also kept very clean. The hotel is set on the beach. There are many sun loungers, (we never had a problem getting one,) and the hotel provides towels. The sea was gorgeous and warm. Very shallow for a long way. There is a lovely small pool which would be very good for children.
There was a good choice of food for breakfast and an omelete chef. Food at the hotel was very good too. The restaurant was set on the beach, so it was a lovely setting to have an evening meal. We saw the entertainment on the Tuesday, which was a lady boy show. Well worth it!
Our room was very comfortable with a large double bed and a day bed. Lovely chairs on the balcony. Tea and coffee facilities and water was provided every day. The TV had BBC world channel and a movie channel, if you have time to watch it! The shower was huge, but it did run both hot and cold intermittently!
Our room was upgraded to a delux villa because they had problems with the other rooms. We had a great sea view. To the right of the hotel there was some building work, but that didn't bother us, and they didn't start work until after 9. There was some noise at night, I think from a nearby hotel bar, but it wasn't too bad after 12 O clock. Planes do fly over the resort. The first plane of the day was after nine and there were no planes at night. The noise wasn't a problem.

Spent 10 days at Baan Chaweng in June 08. All the positive reviews we read on this website that helped us choose this hotel, were proven to be 100% truthful!
The location is ideal for those wanting the peace and tranquility of the beach on your doorstep and close to the main bar/restaurant area of the main strip. Even though the hotel is close to the nightlife, it is quiet and you will not have a disturbed sleep!
The hotel grounds are well kept and clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly.
the breakfast is very good and the food available in the hotel restaurant also worth tasting especially when you can eat overlooking the beach.
The hotel is under the flight path but we found it is not enough to disturb you as flights are not coming in all day long and not too early.
All in all a great place to stay. i would recommend to anybody visiting Ko Samui.

Although this hotel was slightly more expensive than many others, it was worth every cent. The facilities were fantastic, very clean, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. But most of all the staff were always so helpful and friendly. Whenever we needed anything from booking a tour, organising a car, to general requests they always went out of their way to assist, with a smile.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Is also family friendly.

ps - yes the planes do fly directly overhead, very low. But this is a problem for all hotels on Chaweng Beach

I originally tried to book through Agoda but had not given enough notice so just walked into the Baan Chaweng, which was fine.

I would firstly like to say a big thank you to Chai, Patti and Ann for all their help thoughout our stay, the staff here will do anything to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The hotel's location is great, right in the middle of Chaweng (nearly opposite the Green Mango Club) but surprisingly tranquil as the property is set back from the main road and snakes toward the beach. The pool and restaurant are right on the beach, both are very nicely designed. We really couldn't have asked for anything more.

Great place to stay!!!
