Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi
Ranked #29 of 104 Hotels in Chaweng
Reviewed February 25, 2011

I stayed with my partner for our anniversary and we were a little disappointed with this hotel. They greeted us with welcome drinks, and cold towels which was lovely.. However we did not realise that this hotel had two sides of it, hillside (across the road) and premium rooms near the beach. The hillside rooms are way too far from the beach, and I am shocked they charge $140AUD to stay so far away (you get driven there in a golf kart!!!). The premium rooms are fantastic though, absolutely huge bedroom with a very big bathroom. And very clean. The buffet breakfast was great. I was not happy with the pool which was 1.5metres deep, which went up to my chest... Did not like it at all.. The service was average, not many people working there.. The hotel definately wasn't bad at all, but for that amount of money I would personally prefer to stay somewhere else.

Stayed here in feb with friends. Hotel was very nice and quiet for the time of the year, which wax a bonus as we had the pools to our selves, we could grab a sun lounged even at 10-11am!!
Downside was as there wasn't many people the hotel was dead in the evening.
Spa was excellent and another bonus, we all had a free massage , which was heavenly.
Would recommend a little restaurant just down the road called the Moonlight, cheap and excellent food & service. Next door is Hugos bar which again excellent service & very reasonable.
DO NOT eat at Andaman's Steak & Fish bar in Chaweng, 2 of us was Ill
for 3 days, which wasn't pleasant and ruined the holiday here.
Would also recommend marine park boat trip with kayaking.

We were very fortunate to find ourselves at the Kandaburi as we were booked into another hotel up the road whom had overbooked so we were brought here by that hotels duty manager who to be fair was extremely embarrassed and helpful once I let it be known that I was not impressed having a an exhausted 6 year old and hungry wife with me .
So we were taken to the Kandaburi who kindly kept the Chef on and we had a delicious dinner in our room .
The room is large with a massive bath and shower room .We were fortunate enough to have a room near the beach, pool and dining /bar area .
The breakfast is good with a huge buffet plus they make omelettes/pancakes cooked breakfast too order.
Room service and cleaning is excellent although could do with more of the essentials such as soap/loo paper however just ask and they happily provide.
We really like the hotel + the staff could not be more friendly and pleased to help in anyway ,we the family went down as have a number of guests here with a mystery bug and the staff have been very kind and helpful .
The amenities such as the pools are great there is a kids pool which is shallow and the main pool is 1.5m deep and surrounded by built in Jacqussis on one side all a lot of fun .
The hotel in my view is the perfect distance from Chewang in that it is quiet at night and less than 5 mins by taxi to the centre of Cewang which the wife loves and I could do with out.
The beach is white (ish) soft sand and kiddie friendly for bucket and spading.
Clear water although due to some storms a lot of man made debris is being washed up on shore ,which we have been fishing out .Could do with some sacks on the beach to place it all in .Really my only gripe is that all the hotels on this beautiful coastline should do more to keep their beach clean , have staff out cleaning the beach regularly as it so unpleasant and unsightly, there seem to be staff hanging about between breakfast, lunch and dinner
who could do this .As a family we were struck down with a mystery bug as have been several other guests lasted about 24hours ,the staff have been very sympathetic and bringing bottles of water to our room.
The massages are great, we have had a great stay besides the illness ,thank you Kandaburi hope we will be back soon .
We are now off to the Melati for a week so will be interested to see how they compare ..

Loved the deluxe hillside room. So spacious. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a family trip. Taxi or tuk tuk easily available. Tuk tuk is about 50 bhat per pax to chaweng.

I stayed in Kandaburi twice whilst touring the gulf of Thailand. Yes, it was that good that we returned following several days in Koh Phangan.

There are two sections to the resort divided by a main road (24hr security control traffic when residents are crossing) the plusher of the two sides is the beach side and contains the family sized suites and rooms.

There are two pools (one on each side) the pool on the beachside is amazing, very large pool with jacuzzi seats/beds etc. The pool is only 30ft away from the white sanded beach.

You can walk along the beach (Chaweng) all the way to the town centre, the beach is really nice but be mindful of the tides as at low tide (as with most of Thailand) you will need to walk 2-300metres to get to any deep water.

One main recommendation: do not rent a car/jeep/motorbiike from the hotel. The hotel were quoting roughly €60 per day for a small jeep, we rented the same jeep in Chaweng for €18 a day.

The food in the hotel is also ridiculously overpriced for what is not an exceptional choice or standard. Avoid eating in the hotel, I would advise walking down the beach where there are countless small restaurants as well as several hotel alternatives which are definately worth a look.

Similarly to the food the hotel spa is quite overpriced, yes the convenience of having someone come to your room to give the massage is appealing but certainly not worth the price they quote.

Both times I stayed in Kandaburi one thing which was exceptional was the standard of the rooms. All double rooms come with a huge bathroom which opens up to a large living space and ample balconies. Each double room also has double baths as well as showers.

Sadly the website doesn't highlight how massive this hotel is. We stayed there for one night in transit to Bangkok.

The hotel is located on both sides of the main road going into Chaweng. It looks like there are some reasonable rooms on the beach side, not so on the other. We were put in a "deluxe" room on the other side of the road (this possibly because we were only there on night). I didn't have the energy to complain suffice it to say if we had stayed more than a night we would have been sorely unhappy.

There are so many boutique hotels in Bophut which are definitely a better bet!

Me and my wife been in this hotel and since I did my homework I took the best room in the hotel (20 meter from the pool and the beach). the problem begined in the morning since the breakfast is across the road and about 60 stairs up the hill it was horrible to go to eat. The beach is nice and a lot of good restaurants. the rooms were great, big and fancy, the bathroom was huge and very neat. the hotel is not close to city center but the hotel offering 3 times a day free one way shuttle. next time in samui I won't go there.
