Stayed at Kandaburi Oct 2013. Was there for 5 nights and loved every minute. The Hillside rooms were super spacious - you could hold a party in the bathroom!! Only drawback to the Hillside rooms was that it was a looonngg walk back from the beach - you had to go through the beachside part of the hotel, up through reception and across the road and then up heaps of steep stairs to our room. Would be a challenge with small toddlers or for the less mobile. Having said that the rooms are enormous and nice and clean with decent size balcony. Breakfast was great by the Hillside pool. The hillside pool was a lot quieter than the beach pool. There are sun lounges on the beach and plenty by the beach pool. We found the staff to be great.
The resort is at North Chaweng - about a 1.5km walk along either the beach or the road to the main part of Chaweng. I quite liked not being in the thick of things - there were enough restaurants around that you didn't need to go into Chaweng if you didn't want to. There is also enough transport going past if you don't want to walk (50Baht) per person.
Loved the resort - but don't know if I would stay again. Maybe something on flatter ground!!

Room Tip: Not for the less mobile!!

Second visit to Kandaburi stayed hillside this time. Thought the room was better than beachside huge bathroom with a bath and a great shower. Very nice room with tea coffee etc, fresh beach towels every day and a welcome fruit basket. There is a lift if you need it too.
Bathroom lighting is poor as mentioned in other reviews.
Breakfast was good with a wide selection of things to choose from.
Pool area on hillside is lovely- quieter and very relaxing but just as nice as the beach pool.

Good happy hour and food in hotel is good although not as cheap as the town.

Free wifi in the restaurants and while poolside, none in the rooms though.

Staff in hotel are efficient but not very friendly. Some looked positively grumpy especially at breakfast! Someone split his head in the pool while we were there and the staff could not have cared less. They were more concerned at having to clean the blood up. Hotel does all the right things welcome drink and cold towel etc but when staff are not interested it does make a difference. It's the little things like having to ask twice for coffee at breakfast.

Hillside is definitely a better option as long as you don't mind some stairs.

May stay here again but think I will check out other hotels. Wouldn't rule it out and it is good value hillside. Friendly staff would make a big difference to this hotel.

Room Tip: Hillside is better value and rooms excellent as long as you don't mind some stairs.

What a wonderful stay we had.I asked the hotel before we arrived if we could have a upgrade on our room as it was our wedding Anniversary while we were away,
When we arrived we had a room with a private pool area on the balcony, and we were given
some cake and some sparkling wine this was a very nice touch and a great suprise.
The hotel itself was out of this world,we sat on the beach most days and did not have any trouble getting sun beds.
The breakfasts were very nice indeed and all cooked fresh.
We would say to people take a torch if you plan to walk along the beach at night.its quite
dark in the evening.
What a fantastic hotel we had the most wonderful stay and would love to go back.

When were arrived we were shown to our room, on the hillside and we had been given an upgrade. We had our own swim up pool. We had flowers fruit a cake and a bottle of cava in our room. My husband had emailed them previously to say we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was a lovely surprise. The room was huge and the bed was king size although a little hard. The bathroom was good although there was a shower area and a bath but the bath was only made for the thai stature and I could not stretch out my legs. The breakfast restaurant was a 2 minutes walk from our room. There was a good selection for you to choose from. The hotel certainly knew how to charge for drinks and food, although we only ate there once in the day and once at night for the gala dinner. That unfortunately was a disaster. Every time I went to get something there was no seafood and what other food was there was only aired. When I asked about seafood I got the reply in 10 minutes. I actually stood there for 10 minutes and then I got some rather enmic looking prawns, which I did not eat. There were not many sunbeds available on the beach but we did not have any trouble getting one. The downside for the beach was stray dogs which actually tried to attack beach sellers. Rather Scarry. By the end of the holiday beach sellers were grating on our the nerves a bit. The pool area was a good size and there was lots of families with small children. No separate pool for children.

If you walk down the beach 5 minutes there is a good selection of bars and restaurants. 50 baht for a Chang beer, £1 in English money. Always a good selection of cocktails. The wine is not the best.

If you walk further down the beach you come to a lot more bars and restaurants. Some good restaurants the selection of seafood is amazingly. If you walk down the beach much later I would suggest a small tourch as it quite dark in one or two areas.

In the the centre of a Chaweng it is very commercialised. I was not expecting that. People trying to get you into their restaurants and bars. We went onto the centre about 3 times. The Star Cabaret show is brilliant, give it a go the Lady Boys looked great. Excellent show. did not hassle you for drinks. Do not go into the Moulin Rouge show it was terrible in the 30 minutes we were in the place were asked at least 5 times if we wanted drinks, hassling you. The show was awful and the artists did not know the words to the songs they were miming.

We ate at the Terminal D Restaurant, excellent. In the centre. Chaweng Relax restaurant was another good place to eat on the beachfront. We ate there 3 times.

Overall we had an excellent stay at the hotel. Good location for nice beachfront restaurants and then the commercialised side of Chaweng. If you stand in front of the hotel the local taxis drive past they look like pick up trucks, just
wave and they stop and pick you up. Cheaper than the normal taxis.

Would I stay here again yes I would but fortunately there are a lot of other countries I want to visit

Stayed here whilst attending a wedding in Koh Samui. On initially arriving, were greeted very well by staff with welcome drinks and a swift check-in. Once taken to the room, were very pleased, the room was huge!! Was also very clean, and bathroom was fantastic, the missus took even longer than normal getting ready, as i think she just liked been in there! Throughout the stay, you couldn't fault it, the breakfast was delicious, a lot of it made fresh in front of you by the chefs, the room was always made up to a high standard and there were simply no issues in extending our stay beyond our initial booking, and we received the same price in person as we did when we booked online, which we were very pleased about. Overall great place to stay in Chaweng, and after seeing at least another 4 hotel rooms of different places on Chaweng beach, including 5* hotels, i genuinely think the kandaburi was the nicest, would definitely stay again, should i return to koh samui!

The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The location is very handy and close to the main area of Chaweng Beach and many restaraunts and bars. The spa facilities at Kandaburi were also great and staff thee were also very professional and helpful. The pool area was also very nice and one minute from the lovely beach.

Room Tip: Beachside rooms are close to restaurants and breakfast area.

After arriving from the airport (which was less than a 10 minutes drive), our first impression from the road and lobby area was underwhelming. It was our first time to Koh Samui but had enjoyed Thailand in 2009. We were expecting the island to be quieter than Patong and pretty like Phi Phi Island. It was neither, but we still had an amazing holiday here and didn't want to leave in the end.
The main shopping and restaurant district was a very long stretch of road and was very busy especially at night. Our resort was situated on the high end of Chaweng beach which is the perfect location if you prefer peaceful surroundings. The town is only a 15 minute walk on the beach and is much nicer than dodging traffic via the road, then you can walk through any of the larger resorts to get to the main road and shops.
We had a room that was beachside; take note where you book, as some of the larger resorts have two properties.. one on the beach and one across the main road which has no view at all.
Both properties are very well presented and have nice pools, but all are facing gardens or ponds without views of the beach. The layout was beautiful, and the pool was clean and lovely although a little too warm some days. Our beach area was free of rubble or coral and we were able to swim in the warm water which was delightful. The view was stunning and we were very pleased to enjoy this location for our 6 night stay.

Room Tip: Be sure to book the resort on the beachside as it adds to the holiday atmosphere. We had a large c...
