Novotel Samui Resort Chaweng Beach Kandaburi
Ranked #29 of 103 Hotels in Chaweng
Reviewed September 2, 2013

We stayed at Kandaburi for 9 nights in August in a hillside room, during our stay we found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. The location was far enough away from Chaweng town centre to be away from the noise but also close enough to walk if you wanted (15 min walk), only a 100bht tuk-tuk ride to town. We only ate here one night and chose to stroll along the beach or to town for many dining choices. Both pools we great, rooms were clean and tidy
Would definitely stay here again

Stayed here for 2 nights on a recent trip to Thailand. We stayed in a hillside room as this was cheaper and although we had to walk across the road this wasn't a problem for us. We had a corner room which was huge and very clean with a great bathroom.

We used both pools - the hillside pool is much quieter and very nice but we enjoyed the beach pool too. The beach was quite busy and we struggled to get a sun lounger there but never any problems by the pool. The sea was very shallow and you could walk out a long way before it started to get deep.

We walked along the beach in the evening to find restaurants to eat in and also headed into Chaweng one evening for a drink. It was very busy but good for a stroll around the shops!

We enjoyed our stay at the Kandaburi and hope to return one day!

I am being completely honest in my review. We were under the idea from our travel agent that we would be staying at a hotel that was situated on a beautiful beach, with pristine waters. This was not at all the case. Chaweng beach is dirty, crowded, smelly, overpopulated and the water is slimy and murky. If it is a tropical get away you are looking for, I would suggest looking at other nicer beaches in Koh Samui. The Kandaburi was a nice hotel and the staff were friendly, but the location was a major turn off. The rooms are spacious and the pools are nice. Likewise the buffet was great.

Room Tip: The mountain view rooms are very spacious, quite a walk from the beach though.

An amazing peaceful, tranquil resort. We stayed hillside, our room was enormous, very clean all we could ask for. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, always very accommodating and friendly. Cross over the road to beachside and you have a second pool and access to the beach and all it has to offer. We would return and definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Hillside is quieter more for adults with an adult only pool, Beachside more for the families.

I try and be as honest as I can in my reviews in the hope that it really helps others make the right choice. I really wanted to fall in love with this hotel (spending my last few nights in Thailand there with my sister) as on the website it looks so beautiful....however, I was disappointed by the reality.

The rooms are nice and spacious with aircon and the bathrooms are rather vast in size with a shower and great bath. Having said this, there are no doors on the bathroom (just thin curtains) which can be irritating if you want some privacy when using the loo.

The breakfast includes everything you could want from an all inclusive but overall, the food is pretty average during the daytime/evening and is very costly with both a service charge and VAT added to every purchase which is highly avoidable in Thailand.

The biggest disappointment was this...if you don't get a beachside room, you must cross over the road to an ugly block to your rooms and its about a 7 minute walk to the big beach and pool which is half of the attraction of the place. There are plenty of other slightly smaller resorts that are on the beach which don't have this inconvenience.

Staff were not entirely rude but quite unfriendly.

Note though that the beach its situated on is nice with lots of little bars etc to chill on in the evening. This does have nothing to do with the hotel though and so paying this price, I would go for a smaller hotel further down the beach!!

After travelling around thailand and vietnam for 3 weeks we booked this hotel on Koh Samui for relaxation and sunbathing. That is exactly what we got. The hotel is close to the town centre which is about 10 minutes walk. It is very quiet during the day so you can relax and do your oown thing. The pool was great and we don't usually stay around the pool on holiday we usually prefer the sea. The pool however was right on the beach. You have a bit more space than on the beach in our opinion. The beach is very pretty. The sea is stunning but is very shallow far a fair distance. The hotel itself is very clean. We stayed in a room 'over the road' but this was perfect for us. The rooms were really nice, the bathroom was oped planned and very nice and big.
The mosquitos do exist here but i wouldnt say any more than the rest of Thailand. You just have to remember to put spray on in an evening. They didn't appear when you were around the pool/ sea but they were around the garden area mainly. We booked through Hotels.com and paid £660 for 8 nights which i thought was really good. The food and drink in the hotel is overpriced but there are 4-5 restaurants on either side of the hotel which were fantastic. We ate here everynight before heading into town for drinks!
We would return to this hotel if we went bk to Samui!
