“Small boutique hotel with only cottages... awesome pool”
Reviewed September 16, 2010

We stayed at the pool view villa for 3 nights iin Sept 2010. At first I had booked the garden view villa's but after i got to the hotel, we decided to upgrade to the pool view villas. The price was 1300 THB more but the difference in quality was far more. Overall, the hotel has soome 15-16 villas only. its a boutique hotel that is clean, lush green, beultiful swimming pool, very well maintained.. simple awesome restarant right at the beach.. whch no other hotel in chaweng has. breakfast is served here, the prices are reasonable for daily meals... so one can just sack out in the hotel if the trip is short

1. The garden view villlas are a littl emore cut off, plus they had the cleaning carts rights in front [which obviously wd be removed once housekeeping was thru]. The garden view villas are i think the older villas, so they are more tradional in style. The loo's are not that great and the showers were the small ones. each villa has a deck which is vvery nice

2. the pool view villas are contemporary, right at the pool and very close to the beach. They also have lovel.y decks where oone can chill in the evenings. the loo's are very clean , modern with a nice shower as well

3.. the only problem i faced was that the pressure in the showerts was not too great.. which is ok coz this was my second rtime in samui and even the other hotel had the same problem.

4. there were klots of families wiith children and the kids were having a great time. i think if anyone plans a trip with family, thisis a perfect hotel.

5. breakffast spread was good. eggs, two thai dishes, toasts, fruits, muffins, cereal, juice, coffee , ham, bacon, sausages .

all in all i plan to visit again and stay in the pool view villa.

Well this is the first time I have submitted a review but always have trusted Tripadvisor when booking hotels so wanted to warn everyone about this hotel. I had booked 5 nights at the Baan Talay in one of the Garden Bungalows......the price had been lowered from 3500 baht per night to 2600 baht on the hotel website so its seemed a good deal. Firstly let me just make it clear that the positioning of the garden bungalows and the poolside rooms is exactly the same!! They are all positioned around the pool.......its just that some of the garden bungalows have a pond or a patch of grass in front of them before the pool. Upon arrival we were checked into the room.......its was falling apart - there was paint coming off the walls......mouldy patches in the ceiling, lights not working. The room was full of mosquitoes......and this was true for every day!! They kept appearing from somewhere - perhaps the drainage in the bathroom? On one night alone we must have killed about 20. Whenever we turned on the shower the room would fill with a sewage smell - absolutley disgusting!! The water too dribbled out of the shower head and sometimes ceased completley. The air conditioner was very poor and the hotel had soldered all the keys to the tags so that when you left the room you had to take the tag with you which turned off the power to the AC and thus left a sauna for you to come back to :( Upon complaining to the hotel staff that we wanted a seperate key they just replied with "CAN NOT" - and this was the response for any complaint we had. The hotel staff themselves were friendly and nice - I believe though that their hands have been tied by the management - whom you never will see as they had to be contacted by phone whenever the staff needed to speak with them. The management are soley interested in money and not the welfare of their guests - this is also clear when you book through there site as they demand full payment up front and offer no refunds whatsoever. The TV channels were all in thai and had poor reception so much so that you struggled to see the picture. The rooms didnt even have phones in them so if you wanted to have room service you had to go and get it yourself!! The other rooms at the baan talay did look much nicer - all with new furniture etc but way too expensive for at close to 6000 baht and half the size of the garden rooms. During our stay all of the pool rooms were empty (most likely because of the price) and all the garden ones were full - after complaining about the room and getting quite upset with the staff at not being able to do anything (not their fault again) - we suggested being moved to one of the empty poolside rooms - guess what the answer was - "Can Not.....unless you pay".......very frustrating - any hotel that I've stayed in before that has failed in its promise of supplying decent accomodation would automatically move you to another room free of charge - not here though :(

The only good points about this hotel were the location - its beach was perfect and very clean and because it was at the end of chaweng it was very quiet at night too. The pool was nice too but overall I wouldnt recommend this hotel.

We just came home from Koh Samui where we stayed at Baan Talay resort for 17 nights. We stayed in a garden room (looked just like the one on their web page).
The room, including storage space, was sufficiently large for our family of four even with an extra bed. The room was clean, the girls who cleaned did a great job.
The hotel is right on the beach. And have a beautiful garden and pool area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good. If your looking for a family-friendly, small, clean place and not looking for luxury at the quieter end of Cheweng beach, this is the place for you. Note transport is not a problem, leave the hotel and a taxi or tuc-tuc will beep you after 30 sec; there are also plenty of places to eat/shops nearby,

We made the mistake of pre-booking and paying for this one. Reception area should have given us a clue, but we still hoped for the best. It is at the quiet end of Chaweng Beach (a plus) but construction still happening next door thru the day. Room was clean, but air con. wasn't working properly and every morning there were ants on my tooth-brush. Resort has the feel of a caravan park with less privacy. Restaurant staff were lovely, but all the covers on the day-beds along edge of restaurant need a damn good wash. Room wasn't that comfortable. No small table or sofa in the room (cushions on a wooden platform) and very small closet. TV wasn't flat-screen. Normally these things are not a deal breaker, but when the rest just isn't right, even the little things begin to get you down. Had booked for 10 days. Offered to pay 5 nights full-rate for a 5 day refund of lower rate that we'd paid, but no go. Moved after 4 days to another resort which was bliss!

This was our first time in Koh samui and we were a little taken aback when first arriving at Baan Talay Resort reception. Fortunately the friendly helpful staff make up for a VERY basic reception area. We stayed in a garden room (126) and yes it was basic and run down although always clean. Some of the other rooms seemed to have been more recently updated. The beds - all king size - were as hard as nails which is typical unfortunately. The pool isnt huge but with the fantastic beach at the doorstop a huge pool wasnt a problem. Buffet breakfast over looking the beach satisfied the hungry Aussies snd the staff didnt mind us moving tables every morning to seat 12 of us! We also liked the fact that if you didnt want to use the sun beds on the beach you could use the sunbeds lining the restaurant and still be overlooking the ocean and the action happening on the beach.
We also appreciated being a short distance from the crazy, noisy heart of Chewang Beach road and still found plenty of restaurants, bars and massages nearby. Tuk tuks at 50BHT per person were plentiful. Make the effort to go to Bar Ice and have a drink and snack at AKWA and watch the world go by.
Baan Talay is a good choice and you cant beat having the beautiful beach at your door step. It was never meant to match the five star resorts you se in the glossy travel magazines but it was still a lot of fun.

My partner and I met up with the some friends and stayed at the Baan Talay. After months of research we selected Baan Talay for its location and individual bungalows. We selected correctly. The location is the best I believe on Chaweng as the beach is beautiful and not too full of tourists or jet ski's but close enough to the action if you are wanting it. The staff were lovely, very helpful and friendly, and the rooms and resort were very clean. The spa and massage place across the road was also a bonus, lovely people, great massages and foot scrubs for those in need. We would definitely stay a Baan Talay again.
