“Pleasant resort-by-the-sea!”

Stayed here for 4 nights in January..Had a wonderful time in Koh Samui. Hotel is comfy, very close to the beach and the nearby shops..foot massage places are aplenty and great Thai restaurants are abundance in this part of Koh Samui.
Love the hotel's restaurant where we had breakfast every morning : nothing beats enjoying your morning brekkie while being serenaded by the sound of the morning waves!
Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. I have no complain. This hotel is also very suitable for families with small children.

Room Tip: As always, it pays to make early reservation via the internet. Even if you dont get a room that dire...

We haved stayed at Baan Talay 5 times for a total of 60+ days. We have only stayed in Pool view rooms and would highly recommend for those looking for a peaceful and relaxing environment. It is perfectly positioned at the quiet end of Chaweng beach, with beautiful sandy beach and calmer water to swim in than it is further along.
It is literally one of the only resorts where u can sit and dangle your feet , sipping a cocktail or having breakfast whilst looking at the glorious ocean.
All pool view rooms are around the pool and literally 5-1o metres away whilst walking back and forth from the beach to your room takes no longer than 1 minute.
The rooms are spacious enough and clean enough to provide for your needs and wants......and really what are you doing in your room other than sleeping !!
We have become friends with the owner/manager and he is not stupid at all but rather very gracious and giving and his children are adorable. Pool view rooms used to be like the Garden view rooms but have been updated in the last couple of years and are now quite comfortable for a couple and child or in our case 2 children.
Breakfast is very adequate, staff are friendly, rooms are immaculately cleaned all the time and for the price it is very affordable.
Dont be fooled, a great place, great area, right on the beach, couldnt get any closer to the pool and always nice couples and family type atmosphere to be had.
We will be booking again for Oct 2012 and cant wait.

My experience staying at this hotel was so fantastic it motivated me to write a review. I shared a pool view bungalow with my best friend. We stayed for 8 nights. I took a look at the garden view bungalows, and to be honest they looked just as nice as the pool view ones (although admittedly I did not see the inside of them). The garden view bungalows looked slightly more 'out of the way' whilst the pool view bungalows were positioned quite closely around the pool. The pool view rooms were exquisite: a huge king size bed (which despite numerous warnings of thai beds being hard, was not - the mattress was lovely and I slept very well), widescreen tv, mini fridge, and mostly importantly an aircon (which is greatly appreciated in the thai heat). The first thing I noticed about the room was how clean it was! My one and only complaint was that the pressure of the shower didn't work; it would go from boiling hot to luke warm and at the same time lose pressure (but the problem was probably unique to our room.) I was worried that being near the pool meant lots of noisy disturbances, but despite being full it was beautifully peaceful. The reception staff were always polite, attentive and spoke good english. Do not be misled by the reception area; it looks very simple from the outside but does nothing to convey the beauty that lies behind the wall. The cleaning staff were absolute sweethearts. Cleaning services run from 9am to 6pm so you can get your room cleaned at any time; these women work hard and are 100% trustworthy, and always leave fresh towels folded up in various amazing ways! The breakfasts are the best I have ever had at any hotel. You can have anything from spaghetti and green salad to a wonderful selection of fruit, yogurt, and muesli. Eggs are done as you order them, and there is the usual bacon, waffles/pancakes/muffins to accompany them. The restuarant area itself is a modern contemporary design, and as it had no "walls" you could eat breakfast whilst looking out onto the ocean which was a mere 5 steps away. The menu itself for other meals like lunch and dinner is devine, and my friend and I enjoyed many a supper reclining on mats looking out over the ocean. Baan Talay's location is also in its favour; it lies at the end of Chaweng road where there is less traffic but has all the essential shops right on its doorstep. As students, my friend and I expected the time we spent at Baan Talay to be a "splurge" but even then the total cost of our stay was negligable (and this is coming from South Africa were our Rand is not worth much.). All in all excellent value for money, amazing views, clean rooms and service with a smile. We'll be back!

Ok... I think it's better to write stories. The first one is short. If you don't have big experience in travel and it's not very important where to stay and you don't want to spend to much money, then it's ok for you.
And now the second story. It'll be longer. At first I must say, that it's very strange hotel. On the first hand the sea is very close to this hotel. You don't need to go somewhere to swim. The beach is clean. At the night they have security guard there.
You can relax near the pool, drinking some cocktails or beer, for example. But...
They don't think about your comfort in the room. It consists in different things:
1. It's hard to close the door, when you leave your bungalow. You think it is closed, but ... no. it's not. So you have to use something to close it.
2. Bath is dirty in some places. Inside part of the door is not painted. It looks like it is 20 years old.
3. There is a ceiling made of glass. So it could be very nice to see the clouds or something, but ... it's so dirty, that you don't want to look at this.
4. Breakfast. I spent 17 nights there. They should cook something else, except 3 kinds of fruits, bacon, sausages, disgusting juice (come on... it's so easy to make fresh juice in this country).
5. Wi-fi. Sometimes it's free (I think they don't know about this). But... sometimes you need to pay for it. But you can't, because they don't have special cards or something.
I stayed in two types of bungalows. Garden view and pool view. there is a difference, but it's not so big like the difference between the price.
About that wall. Yes. There is terrible wall. It's wallview. It means that you can't see anything except big wall. So be careful about this type of bungalow.
I think it's good for students or somebody like them.

Room Tip: Garden view bungalow without the wall would be ok.

Me and my son stayed here the first three nights on Koh Samui. Spacious rooms with an enormous bed. Very hard though, but we slept well. The staff is friendly and nice. Pool area very nice and also the beach. No problem finding sunbeds. Breakfast was ok, but nothing extra. The restaurant had good food, but a little pricey.
A short walk outside the hotel, to the right, is this fantastic massage place. In the four weeks we stayed this summer, this was the best place.
We will for sure come back here!
