“Lovely hotel in excellent location”
Reviewed June 12, 2010

Went with friend, had our own rooms, overlooking beach, on third floor, excellent air conditioning, wide balconies with extremely comfortable "steam ship" types longing chairs, there is a lift, thank goodness!. Our rooms had both bath and shower, the temperature in the shower could be very variable, but bath water scorching hot... be warned!.
Rooms cleaned to a good standard every day, plenty of shower/shampoo etc regularly renewed, and 2 bottles of water provided daily. Hotel restaurant was good, but ate out regularly for a bit of variety.
Lots of daily activities should you want them, did the areobics class in pool, which was fun and a good way of talking to other guests.
This hotel has a very wide beach frontage at the southern end of golden sand of Chaweng Beach, always plenty of comfortable loungers and has much needed shade from both trees and umbrella's. Watching the beach vendors provided a daily fashion show, and were great fun to chat to ( also cheaper to buy water/drinks etc).
The grounds and gardens of the hotel are beautiful and very well tendered, small safe play area for young children. Pools are well designed and provide lots of showers and shde as well as sun, plus an adults jacuzzi, and again plenty of sun beds and beach towels.

Breakfast was substantial, tea served in tea pots which you can ask for one ( 2 or 3 )tea bags per pot, depending on how strong you like your brew!
Staff were outstanding in pool, restaurants, cleaners, and security staff insist on escorting you to cross the roads, charming, polite and friendly, only reception staff appear a bit reserved and cool.
Only down side... drink prices/food etc quoted net of tax and service charges, irritating, drinking in hotel out of the various happy hours is expensive, and no free wifi ( unless you pay to join the Club).
As we travelled in June, which is low season, the hotel and Chaweng itself very quiet, but this meant that service was always excellent, and acres of space to relax in.

The hotel is on the side on the main road of Chaweng Beach - so in the middle of things - on the other side directly on the shore of the sea - so calm and relaxing. Make sure to get a room towards the ocean, as the rooms facing the road are rather noisy. The pool area is beutiful, the service is good and friendly. A good place to spend your holidays.

We travelled to this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary in Ko Samui.
The hotel is located right on Chaweng beach - great location. on one side is the beach and on the other the busy and rocking street markets and restaurents of chaweng.
the hotel is also nice. the rooms are comfortable.
the pool area and beach area is also nice with some private chairs available.
there are also the regular amenities common to any large resort type hotel.
the restaurent for breakfast is good with a nice spread - it has large windows overlooking the pool area which feels very good and refreshing in the mornings.
fortunately we got a room near the main lobby, otherwise it can be a bit of walk so ask for one if that is a concern for you.
the staff are friendly and helpful in keeping with the great thai tradition of hospitality.
they also had some diving and scuba sessions in a small pool though we didnt take any.
the water sports were not much.
would recommend this hotel if your not into the boutique type options.

to stay in centre of Chaweng, Centara (old name Central) Samui in Chaweng (dont change name with Centara Village in South of Samui, which is beautiful too but for honeymooners, because nothing happens around the hotel) is in a great place, has a enormeous and beautiful pool, nice rooms (it was built a long time before the new hotels, so the spaces are bigger) and the club-floor is just a great happening each afternoon, so try to include the club-level in your booking. btw: drinks are better deals in the 7eleven across the street...

Loved our 10 days at the hotel, just on the edge of Chaweng and we felt this southern section of Chaweng beach, where this hotel is located, is the best strip - the beach looked dirty and busy further up towards the main Chaweng resort area.

Hotel has lovely grounds, with huge palm trees and greenery everywhere so it felt secluded with lots of shade all around the grounds, with shaded walks and sitting areas - perfect for avoiding burning!

Pool area was great, with shaded and open areas and a good balance of fun and proper swimming pool - only concern would be the baby paddling pool which had no shade so would be hot for young children, but the hotel had put an umbrella in there to help with this.

We had read other reviews of rooms being damp, and on arrival our ground floor room smelt strongly of damp. The hotel did provide a lemongrass oil burner lamp from the spa, which smelt gorgeous, but we did move rooms to one on the 1st floor, which was absolutely fine - the staff were helpful with this, but didn't do it with a smile.

The rooms were comfortable, with bottled water delivered daily and a great drench shower and nice balcony, although you get a limited breeze due to the lush trees in the resort. The decor of the rooms is outdated and could be upgraded but are comfortable with enough room.

The restaurants looked ok and the hotel put on a different themed buffet each night in one of the restaurants, but with the wide variety of beach set restaurants and bars in Chaweng we only ate in Zico's, which was ok, but needed more food options than just the barbeque as it was very filling and seemed expensive compared to other restaurants in the area. We loved Eat Sense, The Loft plus the two restaurants linked to the Samui Paradise hotel further down the road from the Centara, away from main Chewang. Breakfast was a large buffet in the palm grove restaurant and was typical for a hotel this size, but there were too many flies on food that could have been covered, however, we were never ill from eating the food!. Staff were very helpful and friendly at breakfast.

Another point on staffing is that the security staff are so lovely, and walked you across the road, but we found the reception staff more aloof and not as friendly and they made us feel awkward when we wanted to move rooms. We were also provided with dressing gowns in the first room, but not in the second and on leaving the hotel we were questioned as to where these were, as though they suspected we had taken them, and we would not wear them let alone steal them, but they did believe us.

we would recommend the hotel principally as great leisure and shaded grounds and beach area away from the main busy area of chaweng.

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Centara Grand Resort Koh Samui and have 2 topics that we would like to mention in this review. First of all the GOOD parts of our stay. We booked our holiday from London with Best At Travel and would certainly use them again. The hotel was as we expected and we enjoyed the club facilities that were provided at the hotel. Our room was very comfortable and with great views from the 3rd floor. 99% of the staff at the hotel were absolutely fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was spotless, the food good, pool great and access to the beach was first class. very attentive staff members around the pool area and never a problem getting a lounger at any time. The weather was so hot that we felt there weren't enough areas within the building that had adequate air conditioning, but that was a minor point really. Very small bar area considering the size of the hotel, but as most people seemed to eat and drink outside of the hotel, it wasn't a huge problem. A nice touch was the suprise birthday cake sent to our room during the stay which was appreciated.

Now for the BAD. We had chosen this hotel for a number of reasons, amongst them the good reviews, the fact that we could use the upgrade to club facilities and the BAHT BONANZA that was offered by our holiday company in conjunction with the Centara organisation. When we arrived we said we would like to utilise the Bonanza scheme. For those unaware of this scheme it goes something like this;- You choose an amount that you think you will spend within the hotel during your stay, and the hotel thn add a free credit to your account for example, if you chose to spend 10000 Baht, the hotel added a further 5000 Baht to be spent, id you chose 20000 Baht the hotel added 12000 baht to your account and it went in increasing amounts the more you decided to spend in the hotel. anyway, despite this being included in our holiday contract, the hotel refused to honour the deal stating that that hotel were not participating in the offer!!

We asked to see the manager on 5 seperate occasions to clarify this, but got no further than the front of house manager who insisted that they could not help us. We had been at the hotel for a week when we were issued with the hotel's latest IN HOUSE MAGAZINE which amazingly was advertising the BONANZA scheme as being available!! There was no mention of any hotel not participating in the offer. The front of house manager agreed that it was a mistake on their behalf but could not help us in any way. At this point we contacted Best At Travel in London who informed us that they had a contract with Centara and would resolve the matter as soon as possible. Strangely enough, we were contacted the following day - the start of our 2nd week - to say they would now honour the deal but it would only start from that date and not from day 1. After much arguing at the reception area the mamnagement finally agreed that the deal would include anything we had spent from day 1, but we felt they were totally out of order and at no time did we receive any sort of apology for this situation. I have already contacted the head office of Centara Hotels for an explanation as to why we were left in this situation, but still await a response. The staff we had to deal with on this matter really did not want to get involved and constantly tried to fob us off with excuses and they let the hotel down in our opinion. Upon receipt of a response from the head office, I will keep you informed.

Amazing place, my wife and I have spent so much time travelling and this hotel rates as the best. Probably a 4* by western standard, rooms have a tranquil Thai theme and the pool is probably the best resort pool I have seen. Upon arrival we got a gift as it was our honeymoon which was a great touch.
Very good location, extremely nice people, best buffett breakfast i have had and well priced food for dinner (although cheaper in other places).
We will be coming back.
