“Brilliant holiday!!”

We (2 adults and 2 young children) stayed 15 nights at the Centara Grand Samui during May/June 2014.

Our first impression of the hotel was how friendly and welcoming the reception staff were and accommodating of us traveling with 2 babies (1&2) who are quite boisterous at times. We were checked in on arrival much earlier than expected which helped us immensely with the kids. The kids were treated like royalty and this set the standard for the rest of our trip.

We had a pool room. The room was lovely, clean and well equipt.
The grounds are maintained beautifully. The pool is clean, the beach is clean, the facilities provided are excellent. The food is fantastic with an excellent breakfast buffet. The staff AMAZING!!!! Every staff member we have encountered are friendly and wonderful to the kids. We could not have asked for anymore from the Grand Centara, it was truly a wonderful experience.

We had a problem with one tile in our pool area which was hot to touch and after speaking with management they immediately provided matting to cover the tile as an interim and then moved us to another room, even though we were quite happy with just matting.

We will return not only for the hotel, it's facility's and location but for the wonderful hospitality of the Centara staff.

One thing you learn very quickly is that Thai people-as genuinely warm and hospitable as they are to adults-have a special part of their hearts that they reserve for children. We’re so pleased that you felt well taken care of…

Our pool suites are ideally suited for a young family like yours. Cool dips during the hottest hours of the day followed by an afternoon nap keeps everyone refreshed.

We stayed at the Centara Grand last month, and found the rooms very nice .The reception areas were very good, but the reception staff did not seem to be really interested in any complaints. the dining areas very good and clean, with a good selection of food . The themed nights were very good, excellent food, refreshments and entertainment if a little pricey. There was a good selection of nearby restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. We will be returning next year for the Thai New Year celebrations.

Room Tip: ask for rooms in block 7, Room 714 very good

Thank you sharing your review. It’s kind of you to write that you found the rooms nice and the theme nights excellent.
We’re unclear what you may have been complaining about to Reception, but I can assure that our staff there are interested in any and all feedback.

We’re happy to hear that you’ve already planned a return trip for next year’s Songkran festivities. Keep in mind that Easter 2015 falls on the 5th of April so that first two weeks of the month will likely be fairly busy. You’ll want to make your bookings as soon as possible.

We arrived on the 20th of May this year and we were greeted with a nice drink and cold towel the staff are very friendly (travellers be aware that they charge 2000 baht a day for room security bond) we were shown to our room which deluxe seaview room the room was very shabby and we couldn't see the ocean for the trees so we went back to front desk and spoke to Hester and asked for another room she was very good about it and showed us a few other rooms to choose from the grounds and beach were very good the buffet breakfast in the mornings was about the best we ever had catering for western tastes not just all Asian foods even though the rooms were not up to scratch we did have a very nice and relaxing stay

Room Tip: choose a suite not a deluxe room

I don’t know where to begin on this one…. It started off terrible but turned into an excellent trip and we were really happy with the holiday in the end. We had booked through Thomas Cook for 8 nights at the Centara Grand. We had booked the standard deluxe sea view room and from the photos online it looked really nice. When we arrived we had champagne cocktails and cold towels and the grounds and reception area looked really nice. We were checked in and this was a swift procedure, however Lara did not tell us anything about the hotel; so no breakfast times, what facilities there are, how to get around the hotel. It was literally welcome, check in and can we have your credit card to hold a deposit. We then went down to the room and as we walked in there was a steamy mist on the mirrors and a wet dew all along the wooden floor. We tried to activate the AC and it was not working, it was actually blowing out hot air and to my dismay the shower ceiling actually had a hole in it so that steam could go out of it as the bathroom fan was not working either. I then rang the reception and they explained the island had a power cut and we would just have to wait a few hours for it to be fixed. The room had already ruined my day and the smell of staleness was so bad I was not prepared to stay there. We then marched back to the reception and they just gave us the same excuses that the AC was running off the small hotel generator and it would be up and running again. They did offer another room and this was even worse.. this one had leaking AC and a huge pool of water so this was a definite NO NO. We then went back to our room and thought what we shall do so got ready and on our way out for dinner I asked once more what was happening and why they couldn’t upgrade us. Bright the young lady who dealt with us was quite pleasant and spoke good English. She couldn’t offer another room but as soon as I said I will pay to be upgraded to a one bedroom suite, all if a sudden a room was available. Bright took us down and showed us the new room, conveniently the room was cold, no damp and the AC was working fine. The room smelt a little stale but was in perfect condition; huge bed, huge living room and gorgeous bathroom area. So for an extra £380 for the 8 nights we were happy, they had only charged for 7 nights and gave 1 night free. We packed our things from the old room and the staff moved our bags, so now it felt like the holiday had finally started. The resort in itself is beautiful and greenery everyway, we have three balconies and a sea/beach view so our room stay for the next 8 nights was purely pleasurable but a part of me felt very sorry for the rest of the residents.
The pool, gym, spa and pool bar and restaurants were all really nice and the breakfast was also of good quality and plenty of variety.
On our second to last day Hester one of the senior managers was in and rather than write down my feedback on a card I actually gave her it face to face. Hester did apologise for our inconvenience and I explained to her that the hotel has lost it’s quality and what is perceived on the internet is not what it is now. Hester did send a apology card and canapés to our room as an apology however I was still left out of pocket £380 for something that was not my fault.
Overall I would visit this hotel again but if you are thinking of going then book a premier deluxe or go with the safe bet of a suite. Koh Samui is beautiful and make sure you go on the day safari which includes seeing the tigers and Elephants.

My husband and I stayed at the CG last month for 2 nights - we had stayed at this hotel several times in the past, I have to say it is not as grand as we remembered it. It is nice, but don't have high expectations.

Reception staff on arrival and departure seemed unhappy.

There was no gesture from the hotel for our anniversary.

We did have a room with lovely sea views and it was well located on a quiet and clean part of Chaweng Beach, with lovely restaurants within walking distance. There was one particular one, as you exit the hotel, turn left and across the road where almost all of the diners were from our hotel!

The hotel really ought to do something about the flies swarming around the cold section of the breakfast buffet.

We could hear a lot of street noise in our room late and in the early hours.

We had a relaxing time on the beach with the hotel having the best spot of the beach. There were always sun loungers available.

The spa, spa staff and treatments were outstanding. One of the main reasons for our return. We were not disappointed.

The room itself was dark and aged and not cleaned to a good standard, but we didn't spend much time there.

We would only go back here for the beach - the sea was clear, warm, calm and shallow. Heavenly!!!

Room Tip: Away from street noise.

Just back from second stay at Centara Grand Koh Samui after 10 years when we considered rooms luxurious. But under different ownership little has changed & rooms whilst clean & spacious are now looking dated and in need of refurbishment. Certainly nowhere close to 5*. However location is on the best part of the beach (warm calm sea), very friendly & helpful staff plus good breakfasts make up. Another plus is free wifi in De-luxe rooms & free towels & loungers on the beach. The well maintained gardens are a joy. Overall a comfortable stay albeit not cheap.
Pros: Location in central Chaweng - Service & willing staff - Breakfasts - Free Wifi in rooms
Cons: Tired rooms - Noisy AC - Birds & Cats annoy at outside breakfast - Sea views blocked by trees (OK in our block 2) -Towels only changed once per day - bedsheets variable in quality

Room Tip: Block 2 has best views of sea as less blocked by trees!

Centara is a beautiful resort with great facilities and activities.There are numerous eating and drinking locations and they are all reasonably priced. This was our second stay at Centara and the staff are all very attentive. The staff all provide exceptional service in all areas. There are some great activities organised daily for adults and some exceptional activities for children. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Samui. We will be back next year.
