“Very nice!!!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

The hotel is about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Chaweng. Good service by all of the staff. Room was small but was clean and tidied daily.

Food and drink was lovely but pricey for the region. There is a small supermarket right outside the hotel which sells stuff at a fraction of the price.

The beech was clean, the pool was a decent size with enough loungers for all!!

Only downer was that wifi was only free in the foyer and not in your room!

Top place!!

We had a lovely stay with our two teenage sons at The Centara Grand, Samui. The location is perfect with a gorgeous stretch of white sandy beach right on the doorstep. We booked adjoining rooms and were pleased that these were on the ground floor by the beautiful pool area. The decor was a little tired and in need of a repaint. The shower (above the bath and with a shower curtain rather than a screen) was also slightly problematic with leaks. The door to outside in our sons room did not lock and we needed to get this fixed which was done quite quickly - although it still didn't lock properly. Likewise the bar fridge in our room was not working and despite our asking for this to be fixed, it wasn't. Despite these things we had a great stay. The buffet breakfast was fabulous and the two restaurants we tried in the resort were very good although naturally more expensive than eating elsewhere. There were activities for our sons such as Thai boxing and some water inflatables to climb nearby. The staff around the pool and dining areas were very friendly, more so than the reception staff. I would recommend this hotel to families.

Room Tip: We had deluxe ocean view adjoining rooms on the ground floor by the pool. Was a great spot.

On arrival here, I was really concerned.....

It took 3 attempts to get us in the right room after a really slow check in where we were left sitting in the foyer abandoned for ages. Not good.

When we finally got into the right room and recovered, things improved.

Great location on the best part of the beach. Apart from the Reception team, the staff were good. The Seabreezr Restaurant, Spice Island and the Club staff were all very friendly and efficient.Special mentions to Meena and Pom.

Upgrading to use the club facilities is worth it as you get a lovely quiet breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and drinks and canapes free.....as long as there aren't lots of kids around!!!! The club isn't realyl big enough for families and it became noisy and very congested on our visit which ruined it a bit.

We have just had 8 fabulous nights at this resort. It was such a relaxing holiday. This is the 2nd time we have stayed here - last August & now in June. Both times, we booked a suite & again, the room was just lovely! We had 135 & much preferred this one to the one in block 7. We holidayed with family this year & they had a smaller room. which was ok - but quite a bit smaller than the suite. If you can afford it, definitely go for a suite. The weather was a bit temperamental the 1st few days but we still managed to enjoy the beach & the water. This year we accessed the Club lounge & we had a great time availing ourselves of the afternoon teas/cocktail hours. The staff went above & beyond to make our stay memorable. From the welcome by Hester - the executive manager of reservations, to the incomparable Meena, Pom. Lar & Aom at the Club - you made this such a special holiday. The breakfasts in the Club & also downstairs were as good as last year & there was plentiful food & a wide selection. We ate outside the hotel at dinner time - some of the standouts were The Spirit House, Ninja Crepes, the Boathouse & Khao San (further into Chaweng). Had massages at the spa & they were very professional. If you like a firm massage look no further than the wonderful Pen. She really helped my sore neck. I was fortunate to get 50% off a massage as they were having a quiet day & offered discounts. Every other massage I had across the road at Dreamland. It doesn't look very glamourous, but Vi (pronounced We) has good strong hands. I am really glad we chose the dates we did as when we were leaving it was noticeably school holiday time with a lot of families with children buzzing around. Cannot fault this hotel & the staff. I am surprised it is not more highly rated.

Certainly the best property in the area. A quarter mile of prime gorgeous clean beach, beautiful palms and flowers and 4 story buildings for 200 plus rooms. The pool was like a jigsaw puzzle of coves, lap pool, water volley, and swim up bar. Our superior deluxe ($180) twin on fourth floor overlooked the the ocean through the palms and had all the modern facilities and space that could be desired in this 18 year facility. Only one elevator far from our building (6 buildings interconnected) but the stairs were no problem for us. The air conditioned fitness (health club) facility was first rate: the treadmill I used was only 10 feet from the beach with the ocean viewed under hanging ripe pineapples. There was only one computer which was a problem for those of us who didn't bring our own.

The bad management began upon our arrival at the airport when the arranged hotel transfer did not occur. After checking three groups of sign bearers with no Hotel Centara and waiting 20 minutes we arranged public van. At reception it was claimed that a car was waiting for us but we argued he wasn't with the other sign bearers and we would not pay. At departure the $33 charge was on our bill and after much discussion it was finally deleted.

Our 6 month old twin reservation was ignored and we got one bed. The first morning we asked for it to be changed to a twin which a front desk woman agreed to do since it was 2 twins tied together with a single top mattress. Later in the morning nothing done. Same women said she would request again. Noon nothing. Same women said she would go up herself and get housekeeping (they had no done any cleaning yet either) to fix it. Mid afternoon, before returning to our room we asked a different front desk woman to check with housekeeping and they told her our beds had been fixed. We went up, nothing. I returned and confronted the woman who passed on the lie to us. An assistant manager intervened and took us up to our room, got housekeeping to fix the beds and make up the room. We also got a free drink and a nice conversation with her, Dudu, a real winner.

A front desk man reserved a hotel van transport to a restaurant for dinner one night but neglected to pass it on and no transport was available. When we did use the hotel vans for transport it was ideal and only $33 round trip for 4 of us.

About 12 different front desk employees were on duty during our 11 days but less than half knew English well enough to understand and answer questions. They could check you in and that was it. This is a resort primarily caterings to non Thai speakers.

There were 4 restaurants, the breakfast buffet was extensive and OK quality but the restaurants service and quality were mediocre. We could walk to Poppies, and used the transport to The Cliff and, especially, the new restaurant Larder - I mention only these three as the best of those we tried, don't miss them.

We had the famous Thai massages daily. We avoided the sky high prices at the hotel and used the public one across the street at $10 per hour and found it outstanding.

Despite my 3 stars, I do recommend Centara. Do be aggressive in working with the front desk - find the most competent managers, avoid the lower level ones.

We stayed at this wonderful resort in October last year in a deluxe pool suite. Its very impressive the grounds are pretty and very well maintained. The pool is amazing with a fantastic swim up bar that we spent a lot of time at. The beach in front of the hotel is clean, quiet and like a tropical paradise, we loved lazing around on the hotel sun beds for hours on end.
Our room was massive, clean, with an extremely comfortable bed and having the private plunge pool was a nice luxury. I cant understand all the reviews about incredibly dated rooms as ours while not brand new was clean and luxurious.
The staff at this hotel were efficient, friendly and always provided service with a smile. The breakfast was nice and had a massive selection to choose from. The food in general at the hotel was very tasty and while the food and drinks were not as cheap as the restaurants on the main road was still quite cheap.
While staying here we felt like we were staying in a tropical paradise and have never come back home after a holiday so relaxed.

We sayed here, for the 2nd time, with our 16 year old daughter. We had no complaints at all. We love staying at this hotel. It is a great beachfront location. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. One morning we found that the pool boy had already set up our chairs with towels and chair cushions under some shady trees where we liked to sit. We would like to mention 'Ampol' a security guard on the door near the outside deli. He was always a pleasure to speak to each day and was very friendly and professional. We will definitely stay here on any future retun visits to Samui.

Room Tip: All rooms face the ocean and resort is nice and quiet at night. I would be happy with whatever room...
