“Chaba Samui , On the best part of chewang beach”
Reviewed July 13, 2010

We have been going to samui for many years, we usually stay at the baan samui, but it has got quite noisy in the rooms because of the bars playing music till late. So we decided to move approx 100 mtrs down the beach to the chaba, we knew the hotel as our friends used to stay there. We arrived & were checked in very quickly & luggage was taken straight to our for us. We had booked a room in the ocean wing, we were in room 312 on the 3rd floor. There was a lift in the ocean wing ,so there was no need to climb the stairs if you didn't want to. The room was very nice & clean, with a balcony, i could just see the sea if i looked right, but the balconies don't face on to the sea. The only thing was, that the bathrooms were quite small, but all the same they were clean, & did the job. There was no bath, but a big open shower which we preferred anyway.
Down 2 flights of stairs & we were straight into breakfast, Good selection of things to have, & you over looked the pool which was nice.
Pool area was lovely, plenty of sunbeds around the pool & on the beach, ( hotel was quite quiet when we were there), You are only a few steps from the pool on to the best part of chewang beach, & there was a breeze blowing as we lay around the pool. Massage was available at the pool, i had a great foot massage for 250 baht. We ate at the pool bar for lunch a couple of times,Food, service & staff very nice.
Lovely sized pool, sloping from a shallow to a deep end, & a good sized childrens pool with 3 water fountains. There was a swim up bar in the pool, but nobody really used it.
We bought a mosquito room spray that seemed to do the trick, as we were hardly bitten.
There is a great supermarket just a few meters up the road where you can stock up on everything you need.
To sum the chaba samui up, i think you get what you pay for, if you are looking for something plush then you will have to dig deeper into your pocket & stay somewhere else, but if you want clean & comfortable, then you will enjoy your stay here.
We didn't go over to the lake wing at all so i can't comment on that.
I booked 8 nights here but only stayed 7, so i could keep my room on till the last minute as i had a late pick up, it's well worth doing, that way you can enjoy your last day.
Hope this honest review helps.

Stayed here in late march 2010- originally lakeview but paid a little extra for ocean view--No real view but on beach side. Ocean view side is handier to breakfast, beach etc. If your used to imperial boathouse style accom this is probably not for you.Rooms clean and tidy, bathroom a bit small, but they have very friendly staff that makes up for lack of luxury i guess. Tony on the front very helpful, and the owners are always around and seem to genuinely look to improving the hotel and your holiday. Good location, good breakfast and meals in general.

we were a bit dubious when we first arrived. Although the hotel is in the cente of Chaweng we wer'nt expecting it to be so busy. We had a nice welcome from the staff who showed us to our room on the lake side. Room was very spacious and clean but a little dated. Bathroom was small and could also do with updating. Breakfasts were excellent. We also had a few evening meals at the hotel which were very good. Pool area was good.

It was a bit noisy at night with music from the surrounding bars and fireworks going off.

Staff were very good and helpful. Nume on reception taught me some thai that came in useful.

If you like to be in the centre of the action this hotel is a good location. If you like peace and quiet I would suggest you choose another hotel and resort

The ocean wing provides direct access to the (rather small) pool; a cafe near the pool where a reasonable breakfast is served; a much less appealing front-porch seafood dining area; and the Chaweng beach coastline itself. If it matters, you should note that none of the rooms come with ocean views except maybe the suites or function rooms. The lake wing is a separate building across the busy one-way street. I don't suppose the rooms there are any different, but it appears to be a much quieter wing and I am of the impression that in low seasons the resort will be happy to upgrade you to ocean wing without charge.

Rooms are a reasonable size and come with daily-changed beach towels you probably will find useful - unlike Phuket many of the beaches here aren't already commandeered by beach chair brigades. Rooms also have balconies, but without any views, these are probably good only for airing your beach wear. If one were to find other issues with the rooms, they might have to do with the rather drabby curtains and the often sandy state of the floor. Sometimes sand gets on to the bed after you walk about the room as a result. I am still wondering whether it is my fault, or if housekeeping or possibly the laminate flooring has got to do with it...

Location-wise I think Chaba Samui ranks amongst the positive (in Chaweng), with an assortment of convenience stores, eateries, apparel and trinket shops, ATMs, scooter rentals etc both up and down the road. The popular Ninja Crepes is especially close by to provide cheap local food round the clock, and so is the chain we kept returning to for THB 200 Thai and foot massages in the scorching afternoons. There is a one-way transfer service to the Muay Thai boxing matches, and the Petchbuncha stadium (there are other stadiums) is just a 5 min walk back after the late-night matches.

That said, each beach has its advantages so I am confident there are equally well-sited and better resorts in La Mai, Choeng Mon etc. We chose Chaweng as first-timers to Samui, but the strong waves mean it is not quite possible to swim there. The beach strip is also narrow compared to Choeng Mon which to me is a better option for sunbathing and swimming. The catch is that Choeng Mon comprises mainly the more exclusive (and therefore expensive) resorts in a quieter corner of the island, while La Mai and even Chaweng can be a long ride to the Nathon pier where some diving tours set off from.

Finally, the hotel staff said most resorts are packed during peak season, but at least in early-Dec the island was rather quiet and I did notice many resorts giving a free night every x nights' stay - bargain hunters should check this out. Ours was a fly-and-stay package so I don't have the exact breakdown or the accommodation cost, but it should not be too difficult to get a nicer place at similar rates.

Just got back from Koh Samiu. We stayed at the Chaba Samui resort. It was my husbands 50th birthday while we were there. On the morning of my husbands birthday the manager presented him with a birthday cake while we were having breakfast, this was a nice surprise. The hotel is in a good location and the staff are very friendly greeting us on arrival after a long fllight with cold face towels and a refreshing drink. The accomodation is as you would expect for a 4 star hotel. I found the bed to be hard, but this suited my husband. Overall I would reommend this hotel on the basis of freindly helpfull staff and good location.

i have recebntly traveled to this resort asnd was nervous after reading the review. THIS RESORT IS GREAT BASE AND CLEAN! it looks old on the outside but the room was nice and the shops are their at your door. Great base for going shopping and wanting to be in the action for resturants, clubs, and Full Moon party. I work with a resort company and have been to alot of resorts, and it defintly up to my standards. It has just got old curtains, and paint needs to be done but it a perfect Location !!!!!!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I booked this hotel initially because of its location and booked a deluxe room which are close to the pool and dinning area. The rooms are a nice size with a huge bed, and the bathroom was well equipped and the shower powerful. There is a mini bar with plenty of glasses. also in these rooms is a safe deposit box. Dressing gowns, even two good size umbrellas, plenty of towls including separate towls for use by the pool or beach and when you want them replaces you put them in a basket supplied and leave outside your room.
The rooms were very clean and all the staff were very helpful and friendly.
There is a buffet breakfast which is reasonable considering this is only a 3 star hotel.
The pool was clean a bit small but adequate, there is a shallow pool next to the main pool for children. A poolside bar, also an area where you can get various types of massages. The beach is lovely clean and away from the more rowdy parts, We did not eat in the restaurant at night, tables were set out on the forecourt at the entrance and there is entertainment on while you are dinning, I think some people might find this setting uncomfortable, it was next to the main road too, many other hotels have there restaurants near the beach or set up tables actually on the beach which is much nicer..
If you want any help with booking trips etc see Tony the hotel guest relations manager his English is very good and he will do his best to help a nice guy.
To sum up our stay here we was made very welcome staff extremely helpful and always with a smile, for a 3 star we think it was good value and we would be happy to stay here again.
