“Average sums it up”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Stayed at the Chaba 27 July for 5 nights as a budget hotel conveniently situated in the heart of the commercial area. On that basis it did not disappoint because we only used it as a base. However, if you want to spend more time using hotel amenities this is not the hotel for you as there are some other finer more modern hotels not far away. Our room was situated overlooking the lake which was OK but the air conditioning was noisy (had to be on all the time because of the heat and humidity) and it also leaked badly when it rained (which nearly caused some bad slips on a hard floor). As it advertised a fitness centre I did try to use it but found it very basic with the one and only running machine not working. Drawing the staff's attention to the problem I waited in vain for someone to return and fix it. Had a similar problem with the safe, when I had a problem using it on the first day and having drawn Reception's attention to it we left the hotel 5 days later still not having it fixed. The swimming pool was out of bounds on the lake side for the whole of the holiday.
Staff friendliness was mixed with some as friendly as it is possible to be and others more distant. Meals were OK but nothing to literally write home about.
In summary - not the world's worst hotel but having called in at many others for coffee and to look at the amenities on offer I would probably go elsewhere if we were to return.

Firstly a warning, when we arrived they had over booked, this had happened to about 7 couples and from the sounds of it is a regular thing due to flight timings I think, however they moved us to their sister hotel the Chaba Beach Resort which was 5 star but a taxi ride away from the main town. Following a nights stay their we were moved back to the Chaba.

We had booked to stay 'lake' side, something I would NOT recommend however following the mix up I suggested they upgraded us to the beach side which the happily did and I am glad too as it could have been a completely different holiday if we had stayed on the river side. The beach side is clean and fresh whereas the river side seems old and lacking any refinements.

The room we stayed in was clean and relitively new with all the refinements you could need, the breakfast on offer was typical of a foreign holiday (european or beans sausage egg and bacon) but you certainly wouldnt go hungry. the pool service is good with a bar available and food available throughout the day.

Overall the staff made us very welcome and did whatever they could to make it a good stay, its in a great location to walk through the town or up/down the beaches or just relax by the sea/pool.

Room Tip: Make sure to book the beach side resort as the lake/river side is the old building which seemed dark...

We booked via flight centre and were told "this is a nice place" we arrived and were quite disappointed to say the least; the rooms are dated, the amenities are less then satisfactory, however being a holiday we decided not to focus on the room and only use it for sleeping & showering. This was until we had a leak in our roof in the middle of the night & we were abruptly moved to a smaller room in the middle of the night. The next day we were told we would be moved back, this didn't occur for 2 days- until I demanded.
The pool is dirty & spa does not work.
Again, being a holiday I may have been able to laugh this off had the staff not been so rude & unhelpful!
The only staff member who made a good impression is their security guard who assists in crossing the road & parking scooters- he seems to be the only member of staff who was polite & professional.
Never again & I'd strongly recommend other travellers avoid this place

Booked into the ocean wing after having stayed at Chaba Cabana but wanted to try the south part of Chaweng. Looking at the other reviews now, i agree with a lot of it. The staff were really unfriendly from when we first arrived & non-responsive to the point of being rude! I asked for an internet code, without a greeting or smile she asks 'what room', get a code, hands it to me and walks off. (I booked through Agoda which gets you free wifi). The only nice one was the guy who helps you cross the road to go from the ocean to lake wing. He was also nice enough to move our scooters into the parking lot when dinner had finished that night.
The rooms are a good size but the bathroom is pretty cramped and there is not much of a view from the balcony. It is in need of an update as it is looking very worn, with the cushions on the chairs having stains on them. The daily water is only in glass bottles, so keep some plastic ones to transfer it to. The location is great, on a nice part of the beach - next to the new aqua playground - and a short walk from central Chaweng.
Breakfast is a decent spread, with an egg station, other hot foods, toast, cereals, fruit, cakes and juice.
There are two pools, we had a look at the lake pool and there was no-one in it. While the ocean side gets very crowded and is quite warm.
I wouldn't stay here again. I think they cater to a lot of tour companies so not really interested in individuals. Nok Air needs to fly some smiles to the staff at Chaba Samui.

After been reading all the reviews I was really careful and wanted to see a room before actually making any reservation. When I arrived (21 July, 2013) they only had one room left to show me in the "ocean wing", which was supposed to be newer than the "lake wing" and in a better condition. When we arrived to the room it took me 5 seconds to decide to NOT stay in this hotel. There was a very strong smell of mold in the room and as I was going to stay for 11 days I would not have managed.

I also met a couple of Australians currently staying in the hotel (unfortunately I met them before I actually saw the room) and asked for their opinion and they were in general positive about the hotel but complained about the evening/night noise. One of the bars nearby played very load music until 2:30 AM, both Friday and Saturday night.

For this money you can find better choices, myself found Impiana Resort Chaweng Noi, to more or less the same price (incl. breakfast and all taxes (17%)). Shop around on Internet!

Had a fantastic time at this hotel.

ROOM
The rooms were really nice and felt very secure. They had a safety deposit box, large bed and lots of furniture, a fridge and a tv. The bathroom was nice but the shower is very low and you have to duck to get under. The hotel provides in the room beach mats and towels for you to use by pool (and they are changed daily).

LOCATION
Is very central along chaweng. It is a short walk to the main nightlife and there is lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. It is located on the beach and right outside are watersports and the inflatable adventure fun area.

GENERAL INFO
The hotel has a nice large pool with plenty of seating. It could do with a bit of a clean but it wasnt too bad. The staff were very friendly and always saying hello. The two hotels (ocean wing and lake wing) are right across the road from each other and there is a person there to help stop the traffic if you wish to cross. Every night the hotel puts on a theme night for food.

The breakfast was great with a wide range of choice. Including fruit, cereal, cooked breakfast, eggs anyway, rice noodles etc.

There is a sign saying internet costs 500 bahts a day but we never had to pay for it.

Room Tip: Either lake view or ocean view are fine. If you want cheaper then go for lake view as it is just acr...

We have recently returned from a week's holiday at this resort. The room was large, very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was included and offered a wonderful selection of food. The omelettes - cooked fresh in front of us were very tasty. All staff were friendly and happy. The beach bar was a great meeting place and prices were reasonable for cocktails. Tony the manager was very helpful. I would recommend this hotel for comfort, proximity to shops and the beach.

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for a room which is closer to the beach rather than the road as the noise fro...
