Have stayed here 3 times 1999, 2010 & Feb 2014. We have always picked the garden bungalows which are across the road from the main hotel. I must say though that do not appear to have been updated since our first visit!
Yes the furnishings are old but they are clean. The best thing is; the bungalows are in a private garden area and they all have nice big verandas. Don't stay here though if you like mod cons and LCD televisions. The bungalows are cheaper than the main hotel but you get all the same facilities.

The pool area is lovely and the location of the hotel, right on the sea front is perfect. It is quite relaxed in the day but only a short walk to the main area, if you want it. There are plenty of loungers both by the pool and the beach but I am sorry to say (the same as hotels everywhere) the towel brigade get up early in the morning to bag the best spots (and then leave the loungers empty for a large part of the day - very annoying).

On our first night this visit our air con sprung a serious leak - water pouring down the wall. In all fairness the staff called an emergency plumber and all was fixed pretty quickly. In fact we found the staff very friendly and helpful.

The breakfast is good with plenty of choice. We tend to always eat out so cannot comment on the restaurant.

All in all for what we paid I think it is good value. Would I pay almost 10,000 baht per night for the sea facing villas - No ( they are not very private). I paid about 2500 baht for the bungalow and that represented value as long as you don't mind the prehistoric TV!!

Room Tip: If you like rustic charm and privacy but don't worry about not having an LCD television then the garden bungalows are value for money

Not everyone gets to go again so soon, but I decided to do so:

Our last stay at the Blue Lagoon in April 2013 was good, but too short. It is very interesting to return (again) to see how the place is improving (or not).

September 2013:
I wont go into a long winded description this time like i did with my first review, so...
Airport pick up - very good, loved it when our driver put down his plaquard with our name on it and just started waving, he does not speak a lot of English, but his wide smile was genuine.

Check in - very good. All the usual forms to be filled out and some minor confusion with the booking to be sorted out. The confusion was my fault as I had booked 'Superior' rooms and the rooms I had specifically requested are 'Deluxe' apparently.

Suggest you book direct with the hotel to avoid some of the 'bling' that some travel sites out up.

Staff at check in friendly and efficient. especially Laura and Andre`.
Rooms - clean and well aired, appropriately provisioned, although the robes and slippers were not all there, and some of the bath towels are past their prime and could do with replacing.

The chambermaid who serviced our rooms nearly screamed with surprise when I opened the door in answer to her knock!! Biggest hug I have ever recieved! She was so happy that we had come back so soon. I just love the Thai people - honest and genuine, something that so many cities across the globe do not have.

Bed linen was spotless, but again, one of the beds had linen that was past its prime.
Beds have the stereo typical asian style mattress - VERY firm.
The rooms - we had two again - had recently been repainted, each had a new flat panel tv, very different to the tv on our previous stay, but with the same DVD player, of which only one remote worked. Turns out the batteries were flat. No real problem, asked Reception to fix it and it was done within about 10 minutes.

Brand new and very effective air conditioning in both of our rooms. Quiet and efficient.

Gardens - on the improve since our trip earlier this year.

Pool - still beautiful, BUT, there was some problem that the engineers were trying very hard to correct which caused the pool to get greener as the days went by.

Kantara restaurant - Breakfast was again great, a good choice of styles and dishes. No problem with the quantity or the freshness of the food. My 6 year old daughter just adored the little sausages for breakfast, which is good because she would eat very little of anything else.

Dinner - again very good and not too pricey, we balanced a few dinners in the restaurant against a few dinners across the road at the noodle bar.

Beach Bar - still excellent. Jon, who was the pool side bartender on our last stay was now tending the beach bar. Ask him to make you a cocktail - he is very good.

The beach - still beautiful, needs a tiny bit more attention from the garden team.

This time we made a point of crossing over the road to the bungalow complex. Nice, but dated. If you do not like the idea of a hotel with shared walls, then perhaps the bungalows are for you, having said that, the area is also in need of a bit more attention that it has gotten recently.

Overall, another good stay, some issues, ie pool going green, TVs not connected to the DVD correctly, one robe and no slippers in a 'Deluxe' room, but nothing to spoil the stay.

All hotels have issues, some just get them sorted out quicker than others. Sure, there are MANY other hotels in Koh Samui, and plenty along Chaweng beach, but we like it, and perhaps tolerate some things that other guests may not. If the stay or the service had been bad, I would have no hesitation in speaking to the management, or posting a poor review.

Our experience was good (again), not WOW fantastic, blow your sock off great, but good.
Clean, pleasant, and great to be remembered by the majority of staff who quickly and dilligently addressed any issues we raised.

Nearly forgot - the massage and spa ladies - great!. All remembered our kids from the last visit and were genuinely pleased, and a bit amazed, to see us back so soon.

To us it has been a welcome old friend and MAYBE, we forgive it somewhat, but seriously, we love it!. Everyone has their own opinion, this has been mine.

Jeffery The Dinosaur.

PS, I have never been to

Room Tip: Stay in the main hotel complex, get a room in the 500 wing. Accept it is not 4 star by the standards you are used to. Above ALL else, keep a smile on you, it helps a great deal when sorting out any difficulty - it works for me.

Great hotel with a great pool.
Approx 5-10min walk down to the heart of Chaweng.
We stayed in both a garden bungalow and superior room during our stay here. Both rooms were nicely cleaned everyday.
The staff here was very friendly and helpful! Especially the 2 girls that worked the day shift.
