We are regular guests and have seen the decline of this hotel over a number of years. They have the best location on the beach but don't leverage it to get the best from it.

Work was being done on the reception and parking area when the money should be spent on rooms and as others have said simple things like beach towels and hand towels for the rooms.

Staff try hard but you must remember this is Thailand so it's not always perfect. We also suffered what we initially thought was a touch of food poisoning - but with 3 of us getting ill over 3 days we think it was something from the hotel. Not a great experience but again it happens - lets hope staff fix whatever it was.

We also noted a lack of any management over the Xmas new year period which is strange - surely this is when you make an appearance to ensure everything is running smoothly.

Still love Thailand and especially Chaweng beach. Just hoping the owners invest - or find someone willing to invest and get the resort back to its best.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor - 1st floor rooms can suffer from that musty smell

Renamed 'FaulThai Towers' (sorry, an English joke)by us following our stay at the Blue Lagoon, Chewang Beach, Koh Samui. Whilst initially the resort looks good, all you need to do is peel off a very thin outer layer to reveal what is a hotel managed by a team of incompetents. Admittedly these things are always subjective, so these are our opinions based upon a stay of almost three weeks at the resort during January 2013.

The front of house staff appeared constantly clueless offering little more than a dim looking grin in reply to the majority of important questions. The assistant manager was the only person who had any idea but she didn't know how to prioritise matters, leaving us playing second fiddle to a string of routine phone calls on several occasions, after which she lost the plot and din't know why we were there.

Our philosphy being that if we need to go to reception, usually it is an important matter and some of the issues we encountered were: -

The advertised thai massage facility didn't exist

Some guests asked of the whereabouts of the fitness facility to which they were told 'not here, you need to go down the strip and pay somewhere'

The beach bar never opened

The poolbar was the most ill stocked drinking establishment ever

The jacuzzi was only a pool as it never worked, when we asked about it, we recieved the reply "no..." whatever that was meant to mean.

Towels were a constant problem, one day we had face fannels (only one day though), another day we got a towel to stand on but then not the next, some days one bath towel, the next two. Beach towels were a pure lottery and in the end we carried them round with us in order to keep them.

As others have said, breakfast was cold every day and sadly the pool and bar area completely lacked atmosphere which led to us going elsewhere almost every day which was a bit of a pain.

We could type all day about this place but we will spare you the finer detail, to summarise the Blue Lagoon looks very nice but it is actually a shambles of incompetence - a third rate resort demanding first rate payment with very little in return...

Don't go there!

Do not consider staying here.

On arrival we were told our room type was unavailable even though we had booked months in advance and reconfirmed our booking via email just before we started travelling. We were told that we would have to be moved to their sister hotel down the road (which was not as good as what we had booked or pay about $50 a night extra to stay in another room at the hotel (apparently these rooms were an upgrade even though they were quite basic.)

They did not care or have any remorse that we were being unfairly treated for something that was their fault. Staff were rude, lied to us numerous times and then told us that we were actually lying and never once offered any apology or compensation. We were not able to get a refund on accommodation so were stuck, and they realised this and tried to get as much money out of us as possible.

Any requests or questions were always met with a frown and we were made to feel that we were hassling them even for simple things such as getting clean towels (which should have been provided anyway.)

Breakfast was cold and untasty and we noticed a number of other people who seemed to be treated poorly as well.

Don't stay at this scam of a place

An absentee owner who shows up and gets a staff member to tell you that only guests can use the pool even though we had been there for 9 days. A very embarrassed staff member had to say sorry for a very unusual owner. The place needs professional management. Front office staff have only Thai as their main communication language and despite us being promised transfers they never eventuated and no refund was forthcoming and I suspect lack of understanding again of poor quality office staff..
Cleaning staff were great and spoke English. I was told they were from Myanmar!
Breakfast was by the ocean but was always cold and subject to bird attacks. Birds landed on some food but were only chased away and the food was not taken away.
Renovations were still in progress.
Great location but needs conpetent management.

Room Tip: Second floor on south side close to pool

Blue Lagoon Resort in Chaweng probably offers the worst and most rude service that anybody could possibly offer to a customer. We booked a room through Agoda about one month before arrival. Upon check in, the front desk, a lady, apparently the "Managers' Assistant" told me that they were fully booked right now and that we have to be transfered to their sisters' hotel which is about 2 kilometers away from there. I refused to do so as I have paid my room and booked in advance. The lady did not apologize at all, but instead she offered me a room in Blue Lagoon with additional payment, cuz somebody else was using our room, that we paid for. I did never experience such rude and unprofessional service and I thought it could not get worse, but it did.
After check in, the TV remote did not work at all. So we called and asked them to change batteries. Somebody came to check the remote, figured that it did not work and all she said was, okay, we will change the battery tomorrow (it was about 6pm that time) and left. Of course nobody ever came, had to go to the reception.
They never provide any beach towels, usually ran out of stack, or have them somewhere else. The whole staff is just too lazy to get them. They once did even refuse to give me one , so I just took it myself from the laundry car.
Room Cleaning is horrible, dirt would lay on the floor forever. Soap never being refilled. Hot water did never work in our shower. We also had problems with the key card.
The Wi-Fi was more than horrible, could hardly ever open any site.

Please do not stay here, it is a waste of money and gives you headaches , it will ruin your holiday!!!

After checking out of The Blue Lagoon on the 2nd, I had an unauthorised charge on my credit card $400USD from "Blue Lagoon Chaweng Beach". I tired calling the hotel and asking what the charge is for however no one could tell me, they "lost the documents" and kept telling me they would "call me back"- however no staff member or management ever did! I have sent 10 emails, none have been answered!! THIS HOTEL IS A JOKE!!! And as an added bonus, their breakfast buffet gave me dysentery... our rooms smelt mouldy, the airconditioner did not work. I can't think of a single reason why anyone would stay here!!

We stayed at the Blue Lagoon the last 3 nights of our 14 day trip around Thailand. At all of the other places we had visited I cannot say enough good things about Thai hospitality. This was not the case at the Blue Lagoon. We had three rooms, only one of them was available upon our check in. When we finally got our room the key did not work, we had to go to the front desk 5 times. They finally gave us the master key I wondered how many other guests were in possession of master keys. On the day of check out we were approached by another guest who was also having problems getting into his room.
Our room was a suite and while spacious it was in extremely poor condition, the towels and linens were torn and stained. We were unable to get towels and when I complained they told me I could search the hotel for the manager.
We had 4 power outages while we were there. The staff never apologized for the inconveniences and always seemed annoyed when we asked for things to be addressed. On the day of check out we were approached by another guest who was also having problems getting into his room. When we checked out they told us that only half of the bill was paid, we reconciled the bill twice and when we got in the car for our ride to the airport they refused to take us until we paid them even more money.
