“Momma and Poppa's Stay”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Absolutely delighted with the whole of the 4 week stay. Staff were brilliant, always extremely helpful, friendly and smiling. We were made to feel very special. Facilities were excellent, as was the food. Location of hotel was great for easy access to Chaweng and all it offers. Looking forward to returning next year.

I booked the Amari after friends recommend it and I couldn't have been more delighted. The location is a 5 minute walk from the start of the main Chaweng strip where there is plenty of choice for shopping and food options. I booked a package via the hotels website and a room upgrade was included. The room itself was spacious and on the garden side of the hotel, bed was extremely comfortable and house keeping couldn't be faulted. Plenty of choice for breakfast which was included in package and always good. The pool/beach area was busy but kept clean and tidy. Khun Nakorn, Khun Kip and the rest of the staff deserve a special mention as they were brilliant. Always helpful in moving a bed into the sun or shade for me and so polite ! If you spend any time here, speak to these guys!! I will definitely return, in fact thinking of a family holiday in July

Room Tip: Deluxe Rooms on garden side are quiet

Very nice hotel at the quiet end of Chaweng Beach. Chaweng is a very busy resort. Staff at the hotel very customer friendly - they could not do enough for you. Spacious rooms, very clean and facilities met all our expectations. Giant comfortable beds, lots of wardrobe and seating space. Beach bags and umbrellas available in each room for use. Hotel grounds very pleasant, with two good sized swimming pools with plenty of sun beds and clean beach towels. Beach front quite small, so need to be early to get a free sun bed here. Food and drinks in the hotel were good but a little pricey. Preigo Restaurant could definitely be recommended.

Room Tip: The hotel has rooms at both sides of the road, both with gardens and pools. We stayed over the road...

I stayed here for a week to get my divers' certification with the Amari's attached dive center, Discovery. This hotel is conveniently located, with the town only a five minute walk away, and many restaurants, convenience stores and pharmacies only minutes away by foot. There are two pools, one near the beach, and one near the bungalows, and both can get very busy. Staff are generally well-trained and helpful, but there is a marked difference in the attitude of the rooms staff (reception, housekeeping) versus the F&B staff, who seem less well-trained and friendly. You have a feeling the restaurants are understaffed and this has contributed to harried servers. The rooms are tastefully appointed, although the age of the property is showing. This hotel will be ready for a refurbishment in a year or two. My main complaint is the wifi, which although free, is so slow to be unusable. Not sure if this is the hotel's fault, or the general Internet connectivity situation on Samui. There were two brownouts the week that I was there, but the hotel's generator kicked in within minutes.

Dear David,

Many thanks for your great review on the resort, and hope your diver's training went well and you are now a certified diver! To address the points you mentioned, firstly thank you for your comments regarding the F&B staff, which will be taken up with the Department Head for improvement. Your points concerning a refurbishment and the Wifi connection are both duly noted and are actually being addressed with renovations we are planning for next year.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback and we hope to have a chance to welcome you back again in the future.

All the best for now,

Martin Kunzmann

This resort hotel is about as good as it gets. Maybe for the outlay of double or triple the cost, something fantasmagorical might pop up but the Amari winds the value competition hands down! We stayed in a spendidly renovated villa on the garden side of the complex and while, perhaps, not in the best position of the many units, its spaciousness, design, decor and facilitation was delightful. There is no business centre - a shortcoming for those with business obligations - but the staff were at pains to copy, scan and email documents on my behalf. The young ladies in reception are smart, happy genuinely helpful and quite lovely. The restaurant and its food and beverages are absolutely tops and the beautiful garden leads to a splendid beach that is pretty and sufficiently natural to be calming and refreshing. I much look forward to an early return. Brian Day, Australia, March, 2013

Room Tip: The renovated villas in the garden section are a delight.

The location is great, pool is kool, the beach is very nice. The food is good and the atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. Plus you can walk to many outside restaraunts. If you are looking for a quiet resort time with minimal fuss this is the place. Other options like Maldives etc are better but pricier. You go here just to lie on the deck chair and walk on the beach, and do nothing but chill.
