My husband and I spent a week in Koh Samui, and out of the 7 nights, 6 were spent at Amari Palm Reef. We were impressed by the pictures in the hotel website, good reviews from other travelers, and the Amari brand of hotels in Thailand which is famous for its good quality. The only reason we didn't stay here for our whole trip was because no rooms were available for that particular day, so we found another place.

The rooms were very nice. The bed was big and comfortable, the air conditioning cold enough, and the room clean and spacious. There was a balcony outside with a table and chairs and a wooden rack used for hanging clothes. It was an excellent idea since vacationers can use this area to dry their swimsuits. For our return stay, we got a room upgrade: a villa overlooking the swimming pool. The grounds were nice and well-kept and evoked a feeling of being in a tropical paradise, especially the area overlooking the beach.

I do have something to say about the bathrooms, though. During our initial stay, the water from the shower would go to the edge of the bathtub, where there is a depressed space, and leak onto the floors. This created a lot of mess and we spent a lot of time cleaning it up after showering. On our return visit, the shower and bathtub were separate so we didn't have that problem. We do have a couple of suggestions for the management, though: place a rubber stopper on the glass shower door so that when you open it and it hits the toilet bowl, it will not break and injure a guest. Second is to change the bathroom lights from halogen to LED to conserve electricity.

The gym is excellent although not as complete as a real gym. A nice touch is the supply of sweet-smelling cold towels that guests can use after their work-out.

The breakfast buffet had a good selection of delicious food, but it would be nice if they could vary the menu a bit so that people who stay for several days (like us) would not be faced with the same things every morning.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. From check-in to check-out and everything in between, everyone was polite and pleasant and smiling. My husband left his slippers in his old room when we checked out, and when we came back, we asked if they had seen them. They quickly located the slippers and returned them to us.

The hotel is 5-10 minutes walk to the "center" of Chaweng Beach, where there are a lot of restaurants and shops. Alternatively, you could rent a scooter from the hotel, which we did, and explore the area via scooter. The advantage of renting from the hotel is that there is no need to leave your passport with them, which is demanded by the other scooter rental shops outside. The price is reasonable, too, at 1000 baht for 4 days.

This lovely hotel helped make our dream tropical paradise vacation come through. We will definitely stay here the next time we go to Koh Samui.

Our family highly recommends the Amari Resort and Spa. We desperately needs a holiday where we could all reconnect and relax. The Amari was the perfect place for this to happen. Amazing staff, well appointed, delicious food and a great sport at Chaweng to stay. Not as crowded and a lot cleaner.

Room Tip: The family room was perfect!

We stayed at this resort with friends and this place was like heaven, so peaceful and relaxing when you compare it to Phuket. Rooms clean, tidy and large marble bathrooms with a full size bath. The pools were exceptional and restaurants were good value with great food.

Lets get this straight and out of the way from the beginning, the fact that this hotel is built on both sides of the main road is a total irrelevance. End of story....almost. If you want to be near the dining room, bar and beach then try and choose the beach side. We stayed on the other side of the road, in beautiful surroundings with a really nice swimming pool that was by far less crowded than the pool on the beach side of the property. Our room was great, kept spotlessly clean with efficient air conditioning, I assure you that will need this. On checking in we noticed the shower curtain was missing and reported this, when we first went to explore the rest of the hotel, it was there by the time we got back an hour later with the explanation that is had been removed for cleaning, and the maid had simply not got around to putting it back. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the choice of food available was amazing, you could breakfast like an Englishman, a European, American, Thai ,Malay, Australian... ...there was something to suit all tastes and it was great to experiment. The staff in the dining room could not have been better. So with all these good things I am saying about this Hotel, why only four stars and not five? Simply that when I went swimming in the beautifully clean and warm sea, I did not see a single fish, the construction of this and other Hotels along the beach has unfortunately killed off all the reef and it's inhabitants. I am afraid to admit that I felt very sad about this and somewhat guilty about contributing to irresponsible development in the name of tourism. Not a debate for this review.
Otherwise, a great Hotel, book in with no worries. Whilst the food is great, well prepared and presented, it is also very expensive. We ate twice at the Hotel in the evening instead of going out, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. But my advice is, go out! eat the street food and visit the market place, out of the world food, more fresh sea food than you can shake a stick at! and 75% cheaper than the Hotel prices and much more fun!

A resort bisected by a road? I didnt quite know what to make of it, for the immediate mental images are of traffic through your holiday! So was prepared to not be thrilled by Amari Koh Samui. But the anticipated pleasure while visiting a resort is always high, and its a real pleasure when expectations are met. My visit to the resort was brief but almost every moment was a happy one, and the name still brings a smile and some pleasant memories.Koh Samui itself is a such a pleasant getaway, and the stay at Amari made everything very easy. For one, it is by the beach and at Chaweng, so right next to the most popular part of the island. The airport is some distance away though.

Yes a road separates the old section of the hotel, which now houses the public areas including reception, restaurants, pools, beaches, library, shops etc from the new area which houses most of rooms, a spa, gym, another pool and large gardens. As each is self contained, you need to not encounter the road much if you so desire. The resort itself is lovely, combining the simplicity of Thai design with charming open greens and blue spaces, not to forget the white brown deckchairs. Lovely walkways populated with beguiling plants, enchanting lanterns, vibrant flowers, lotus ponds - what's not to like. Add Thai hospitality, and great service standards, and you have a great holiday.

The rooms are nice, airy and more than well stocked in all basic needs. And some luxuries. My suggestion however, step out and take in the surroundings though. The public spaces are not to be missed. My favourites were early morning by the beach, sumptuous delicious breakfast, lounging in the beachside pool, post lunch lounge by the other pool, dusk by the beach again, dinner at Italian diner Prego, and stepping out to Chaweng for a night out! And no, the Chaweng noise does not intrude into this quiet paradise.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms, definitely

My girlfriend and i stayed here for a week beginning of August. To be honest it depends on what you want in the way of a holiday as it certainly caters for families, so dont expect huge parties all night round the pools etc....having backpacked loads this was certainly a very different experience...

There's a lot of people going on about the poor swimming in the bach out the front of the hotel, and yes the beach further down is certainly the best swimming however its seriouly only a 5 min walk down the beach so no big deal at all..!!

much quieter up this northern section of the beach aswell so if you want to get away from the mad street this is the place to be...we walked the main street which was a real easy walk from hotel anyway...

most of the rooms are across the road which is also fine as you have a very cool pool over that side aswell and its not even 1 min walk to the beach anyway...

we hired a scooter from the hotel, you pay about 100bht extra, however they dont ask for your passport so in my opinion much safer without hassle...also we returned the scooter a good two hours late, the hire guy had no issues at all, didnt ask for any extra payment and didnt even check if the scooter had any scratches on it which it didnt at all, however showed their amazingly good service!!

Bophut was also about 20 mins away...deff worth checking out the friday night markets there at fishermans village!!

clean rooms, super friendly staff....id stay again for sure!!
