After having eaten here following Tripadvisor's advice, I remain miffed as to why this place is so highly rated. The food was not that great with one noodle dish consisting of 2 minute noodles with McCain's frozen vegetables & 2 shrimps. You can get better tasting food elsewhere, without the food poisoning like we had. The positives are the friendly staff & fresh coconuts.

Dear Michael B,
Thanks for having visited our restaurant. We are sorry that our food did not match your expectations and we hope to have an occasion to serve you again and be able to do better.
While respecting your personal opinion I need to respond to your declaration that we use frozen food and that you found 2 shrimps in your dish. This is not true. Our kitchen is open for everybody to see and I challenge anybody to find any frozen vegetable in our restaurant. We use always ONLY fresh ingredients bought daily at the local market. Same goes for the shrimps bought daily and NOT frozen. It is also a fact that depending on size of shrimps ( we normally use larger than most other restaurants in the area) there are always 3-5 shrimps in our noodles/rice dishes. The ONLY frozen food that can be found in our restaurant are French Fries, Spring Rolls and Fish/Crab Cakes... in fact we often suggest customers to choose instead Fresh Fried Shrimps that are prepared with a daily homemade batter!
Regarding having been sick after eating at our restaurant, we are sorry to hear that, we so far never had anybody reporting this. Please consider that the easiest way to get sick in Thailand is by washing your teeth with tap water... foreigners also often have issues with fresh coconuts....

We found this place via tripadvisor, otherwise it's not really a shop that catches your eye as you walk along the Main Street. It's kind of tucked back a bit (which is also why it lacks atmosphere a little).

The food though is amazing. Delicious. Maybe the portion sizes are a little on the small side so if you're really hungry you may need to order 2. Meals are cheap- 100THB to 250THB.

The staff are lovely, friendly and speak good English.

Good find!

i read the review and i was really excited, but i think it s really overrated...
the phad thai is not really good(the one of the "green bird" is really much better!!) and the price is really too much for a plate that you can find evrywhere under 70-80 bath!

Thank Fedeking

Dear Fedeking,
Thanks for coming to our restaurant and for finding time to write about it.
We are sorry you did not like our PadThai, If there was something wrong with it we could have changed it if only you had told us. Regarding price it is true that our PadThai is at 90 baht 10 baht= 25 Eurocents more than most places, but as I said to other customers we absolutely cook only fresh ingedients that we buy in the market every day nothing is pre-cooked, also our portions are normally a bit larger than average. Unfortunally rents in Chaweng main road are also a bit more expensive than in other places...air conditioning cost and decent salaries paid to our staff make this 25 extra Eurocents something that we had to accept. Our menu is anyway available outside the restaurant for customers to evaluate before they come in.

This is an absolutely brilliant restaurant, please don't be fooled by its somewhat shabby exterior. We ate there last night and the food was amazing. We had morning glory to start, followed by a chicken red curry, a chicken with chilli and ginger, two jasmine rices and three bottles of Chang, all for 500 baht!

Now to be honest had I not read the review of this restaurant on TA we would have never eaten here. My Wife and I usually like an appealing looking restaurant as well as good food, but as previous reviewers have noted, there is a shortage of good Thai restaurants in Chaweng, so much so that the previous night we ate in Pregos (so called best Italian on the island), this was woeful and definitely style over function with well presented but incredibly bland food served in a lovely setting.
Khaw Glong is the complete opposite, modest premises definitely, but good clean authentic Thai food served with a smile that tasted amazing that was great value for money.
We will definitely be coming here again, loved it.

Dear Beejjones,
we wish to Thank You for going beyond the appearance and coming to try our food. We are a simple family style Thai restaurant, we cook only 100% fresh food, nothing is pre-cooked and everything is bought daily in the local market. We believe this is the secret of tasty food.
We will be happy to wlecome you again in the next days.

A great Tripadvisor recommendation. Was worth the walk to get there. Have found Koh Samui very hit and miss when it comes to Thai food. This was good food at a good price and the service was perfect. I would definitely recommend to others.
