Great value for money

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Sep 17, 2012
Stayed seven nights, very satisfied with the hotel. Our room was quite spacious, despite what some of the reviewers in here say. Cleanliness was good, except the room smelled a bit like pee when we arrived. But so does all of Chaweng, really.. Nice, big bed - big bathroom, safe in the room, as well as storage space for our backpacks. The pool area was awesome. Nice, cooling pool with a swim-in bar, and sun beds and umbrellas.

Most of the staff was great, with the exception of one woman at front desk, who seemed to think we were there merely to waste her time. But other than that the reception and restaurant staff were very friendly and service minded. We had some issues with the shower (clogged drain), and the remote control for the TV didn't work, but the staff sorted that out quickly. The nasty pee smell in our room disappeared when the drain was fixed as well.

We tried the breakfast buffet once, but decided it wasn't worth the 200 THB. Very poor selection of everything. If you have to eat breakfast in the hotel, I'd recommend ordering from the à la carte breakfast menu.

Location is good, toward the end of Chaweng's main street so it's not noisy at night but still close enough to walk anywhere in Chaweng. About a 2 min walk to the beach.

Booked in for 7 days and ended up staying for an extra 5 days. Loved it here, amazing value (especially when you are an accor advantage plus member), amazing service from all staff, especially Jum at reception. Always stay in accor hotels and this one was one of my favourites. Was in Thailand for a month and the mercure had one of the better breakfasts for a low price, and ate lunch most days by the pool which was always fantastic and great with the 50% off accor discount. Rooms were very good, we stayed in the superior room, had a great bathroom. Already miss it here and can't wait to go back! Thanks again mercure!

Very nice looking hotel. The stuff is very welcoming and helpful. Rooms are beautiful, clean and well maintained. The buffet breakfast is tasty, clean but the variety is limited. The location is great on the sourthern part of Chaweng Beach- Which is very nice and quiet area. Surprisingly, the reality is better than the professional photos.
Very recommended property with very fair price.

This was my first trip to Koh Samui having traveled extensively throughout Thailand and Asia. This was a great location for Cheweng beach. The southern end of Chaweng beach is a bit nicer than the norther end because when there is a low tide the northern section has a bit of exposed reef and flats while the southern end is still swimmable. The entire island is very accessible by scooter bike so location to restaurants, bars, and other beaches were not a big concern. Chaweng is very touristy and built up along beach road with beach front resorts taking up all of the beach front. There is no problem accessing the beach from the Mecure through a small old resort across the street. I was a bit apprehensive at first doing this but there are no issues. There is a reggae bar there you can hang out at and have beers on the beach.

The Pros: price, excellent value for the money, modern room, great bathroom, great aircon, not noisy, slept very well and comfortable. The pool area can be very relaxing in the morning as long as you ask them to turn down the teeny bobber pop music being piped into the pool area, it overshadows the sound of the water fountain and serenity which the pool area provides, great ambiance in the morning calm for early risers.

The Cons: very limited TV channel selection in the room. The swimming pool is too small for laps and the number of guests at the hotel.

You don't go to Chaweng to find quiet. But if you want to be slightly removed from the partying (at least while you sleep), the Mercure Tana is perfect. Location is convenient to 7eleven, ATMs, and beach access. Note that at the Chaweng beach, chairs are for hotels on the beach only. You won't get that included with this hotel. Finding chairs to rent or space for a towel is not difficult, though. Note you'll also have to bring or buy beach towels, Mercure doesn't provide beach towels. Other than that, the pool is lovely and breakfast is downstairs should you need the convenience. The shower is heavenly!

Room tip: We got a corner room and if the regular rooms are any smaller, we would have been cramped!
