I thoroughly enjoyed my 3-night stay at this hotel. It's great value for your money. The rooms are beautiful -- very clean and comfortable, with air con, TV, and free wifi if you have a laptop or smart phone. The pool area is very nice as well, and the location is good. Not quite in the heart of Chaweng, but just a couple minutes walk away. That keeps it quiet enough to sleep at night! The beach is just a couple minutes walk away, too. I would totally recommend this hotel!

Located at the far end of South Chaweng Beach. The rooms are very nice and supper clean. Closet/cabinet space is not the best, but it is manageable. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you if requested. That being said, when it comes to planning any type of day trip or transportation, they are not very knowledgeable and they do not have any type of real travel desk. Your best bet is to use one of the many travel offices very near the hotel. My group had a few meals in the hotel restaurant...not very impressed. The service was very attentive but was slow from the kitchen...portions not filling and priced above many other better places outside the hotel. Over all my rating would be above average..to good.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are pretty much the same. Sreet noise not much of an issue.

Hotel is a brand new addition to Mercure chain, though originally built as Tana Boutique Hotel. Prices are still low in comparison with other Mercure hotels, but this one is a bit different from your average chain hotel.
+ very impressive building with wooden tiles and floors, really a designer's work
+ very modern and stylish rooms, bright colours, everything made with care and attention to details. Deluxe rooms come with or without balcony, all with walk-in shower; for extra comfort you can choose a suite, which has a bathtub and shower, but no balcony, though. Wooden floors and ceilings mean that it's a non-smoking property.
+ connection with Fuji japanese restaurant is an easy way for lunch or dinner. You may also take a stroll down the main Chaweng street, on which the hotel is located.

- really tiny pool, overshaded by the building
- Chaweng is a busy tourist area, noisy at night and crowded daily. Not the best choice for honeymoon or relaxation.

I'd recommend to stay here overnight before leaving Samui, ad the dining and shopping in this area is much easier than in other parts of the island.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Tana in October 2011. Being our last couple of nights in Thailand we wanted to stay somewhere semi-luxurious, with an affordable deal in place (aus $75 a night) and great photography on the net, the Tana seemed like the place. The trip from the ferry was quite long (60 mins), upon arrival we were greeted by a girl at the front desk (she never gave her name). We were given 1 room key and taken to our room. I had to go downstairs to ask the basics: how does the aircon work, where is breakfast? Do you have a gym? (no) etc. It was quickly apparent that the girl (while sweet) spoke very little to no English. This became more apparent when she nodded to requests and said yes but never followed them up. Example, My door card did not work so I went downstairs to get another, it took me three trips to get a working card and get inside. The location is not ideal as you have to sneak through other (better) resorts in order to access the beach (if you try to use their equipment: sunbeds, you have to pay). The room was underwhelming and we decided we wanted to leave; we quickly found out you cannot receive any refund. Trying to organize tours at the front desk was impossible due to the language barrier, just go to the travel agent. We highly recommend the samui island day trip. Breakfast was typical Thai fare, processed meats and white bread, the waitress was very helpful and doted on us. The house restaurant, Fuji, has reasonably priced, well presented Japanese food. The service though is glum and uninviting. The pool is nice and well designed, but beach access would ideal. The rooms also have no music or Dvd facilities (which given Chaweng's stalls is a real shame). The worst aspect by far was our last night, we arrived home from dinner to find our air con not working. We contacted the desk; this started a run around the consisted of multiple maintenance visits, five phone calls and a room change. In the end, our replacement didn't have working air con and we had a lousy nights sleep (before a whole day of flights). I know this review is overwhelmingly negative but we really wanted to end our trip in style, with the Tana's disappointments, language barriers and cancelation policy, this was not possible.

I initially booked this hotel on a discount website as it seemed a steal for the price- a four star boutique hotel for three star prices. However, as our stay later revealed, certain minor aspects were perhaps 4 star (mainly only the cleanliness and presentation of the room) but most were 3 star. Whilst being sweet and jumping to attention every time we needed something, the lady at the front desk spoke very little English making it difficult for us to ask her basic questions about the hotel and surrounding area. As soon as we got to the hotel, we were not given basic information such as breakfast time, where the pool was located, we were simply led to our room, the door shut behind us. Location was good, in the bustling but very touristy area of Chaweng but we had no idea how to get to the beach and weren't given any directions- we eventually found our own way by creeping through another resort. The included breakfast was average, a set menu consisting of a small salad, eggs, white bread, processed sausages, tea and coffee etc. It was, however, always served with a smile. The attached Japanese restaurant served a huge selection of tasty sushi, soups and bento boxes, however service was poor and a couple of the waitresses borderline rude. The language barrier was still there, but ultimately this should not have made a difference. Overall, I would recommend this place if you're only staying for one night in koh samui, want to save some money and want to get a taste for Chaweng and the lovely beach. But if Koh Samui is your holiday destination, do yourself a favour and stay in one of the resorts across the road (for only slightly more $$ a night), where you're on the beach and where I imagine customer service holds more importance.
