Managed to get a last minute booking here on a Saturday night. The food was delicious, the service first class and the atmosphere perfect. Shoes off at the door though so don't wear diddly saddles like I did!

The Spirit House was recommended by a manager at the hotel we were staying in (Renaissance Resort) so we expected great things. The starters were very good. Chicken Satay, very succulent and tasty. The Golden Bags the same. Mains were good - Tamarind Prawns and Whole Bass Garlic very good. We had a problem with the wine which was a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. It wasn't corked i.e. off as such but tasted 'dead' and a bit woody. Probably the result of to many temperature changes in it's short life in transit from Chile to Thailand. We didn't comment until half the bottle had gone - a bit silly but the manager gave us a small discount anyway - good service recovery. The service was OK but a bit slow at first. The setting is very good - an oasis in a sea of tacky shops - lovely courtyard. The setting pushes the rating up to Very Good from an average meal.

The best food in Chaweng, we went twice we loved it so much the first time. We sat on mats the first time which was different but enjoyable. Table seating the next, very large chairs. The food is to die for. Lovely setting in the middle of busy Chaweng.

Our Night At The Spirit House Was To Celebrate A Birthday And Have A Special thai Experience After Mainly Eating At The Cheap And cheerful Places In Chaweng. We Were not Disapponted. The Location Is A Little Lush Garden Hideaway right On The Main Road. Food Was Sensational Flavours Including Some Things Not Normally Found On The Usual Menus. Service And Atmosphere Was Great. Yes The Food was Spicy, Yes There Were Mosquitos And Yes They Wanted Cash But This Applies To Most Restaurants On Samui So No Surprises If You Think About It. Just Note That Most Maps Showed The Location Wrong But The Taxi Drivers Know Where It Is.

It was great to have something a little nicer than the cheap restaurants on the street.
Being just off the street, this restaurant has a completely different vibe to everything else.. a real effort at a quiet, classy, traditional thai restaurant. Very elegant.
And the food was some of the best we had on the island. And still reasonably priced, in comparison to the dirt cheap prices elsewhere on the island.
Would definitely go back.
