“Nothing budget about this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights jan 15th to 18th.From the minute we arrived the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms are spotless and large and the beach is right across the road.We could not have asked for more from this very affordable and central hotel.Dont let the name fool you, theres nothing budget about the place except the price. The staff are the stars of this place and we will gladly stay here again if we return to Samui

We were pleased with Chaweng Budget Hotel. It is located at the bottom end of the main strip in Chaweng and has all the basic amenities of any city hotel, with the added bonus of being given the superior towels (for both the bathroom and the beach/pool) from Chaweng Cove and other little branded bits in the room (dressing gowns, umbrellas (in case your there in the rainy season), glasses, shower gels/shampoos etc)
You are also able to use all the facilities of Chaweng Cove located directly across the road including their three pools and loungers and umberalls on the beach which was just great - resort facilities at budget prices. Wonderful.

Our room was on the third floor with no lift but it wasn't a problem carrying our bags upstairs. The room was a decent size with double bed, AC, fridge, tv, complimentary drinking water (1 500ml bottle per person per day) and a well appointed bathroom with full shower, making it a nice change from the typical wet rooms throughout SE Asia. On the third floor there is also a reading room in the corner to the left as you come up the stairs which had a good selection of books if you're in need of a new read.
There is a 7-11 directly opposite the front door which was great for drinks and snacks and multiple pharmacies if you've run out of toiletries/sunscreen.
The hotel is approx 20mins walk to the start of the main hub in Chaweng and a further 20mins to reach the other end of the strip - provided you don't stop in any of the many souvenirs, leather or tailors along the way.

The only downside, as mentioned by others, is the ridiculously expensive wifi that you can only log onto in the lobby; however, almost every restaurant offers free wifi and we just logged on at mealtimes.
There are a couple of cheaper restaurants near the hotel and progressively get more expensive the closer to the center you get. The same goes for any souvenirs/bags - the closer to the hotel the cheaper and more receptive to bartering the shops are. (As an example I had seen a large leather replica handbag in several shops - in the centre of town they quoted 7500 baht with the minimum they were willing to go being 4000; at a leather shop set back from the road (on the opposite side to the hotel opposite a Brazilian restaurant) half way into town the starting price was 4500 which came down to 3300)

After reading another review where the hotel had quoted 900 baht for an airport transfer we didn't even bother to ask at reception and checked with a few travel agencies which were around. The best deal we got was 150 baht per person from Samui 2 Travel (turn right out of the hotel and head further out of town. It's the first building after you cross the first road - 2 minutes walk at the most) and that was for a private taxi for the two of us. Other places quoted us 350-500 for this so we were very impressed.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Chaweng Budget Hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we went back to Koh Samui

We were scrambling a but fit accommodation and found this place on Agoda - thank goodness we did! The room was clean and very modern - had everything you would expect from a hotel room in a major city. The fact you can use the facilities at the Chaweng Beach Resotel accross the road made life easy and the stones throw to a 7-11 for beer and snacks was another great selling point!

The only disappointment was the OUTRAGEOUS price for Wi-Fi access - in seven weeks of traveling we never had to pay for wifi at other hostels/guest houses of a similar if not cheaper price range. Head to many of the nearby restaurants and ask if you can use the wifi there while enjoying a meal/snack - many offer it for free

Lastly the big party/bar/etc scene is about a twenty minute walk do you aren't right beside all the noise but can easily make it there/back whenever you want to

Overall we were pleasantly surprised!

This hotel is very basic and a budget option but for what we paid (slightly less than the asking price as we bargained down) its perfect! The hotel itself had the feel of an airport hotel, there is no Thai influences in the design ad it seems quite soulless but it was spotlessly clean, no bugs or lizards, and large enough rooms with a nice bathroom. The location is quite a bit away from the party area in chaweng, a 100baht songathaew ride, but there's plenty of restraunts both cheap and expensive right on the street outside. use f the pool and sun loungers of the neighbouring resort were a selling point for us and defiantly worth it. For all the time we spent in the room this was a way better and cheaper option. You get the towels of the more expensive hotel and therefore use their facilities, pools great and large although very busy and sun loungers on beach nice as you get less hassled. expensive Internet was a negative and beds not the most comfertable.
Rooms and price of a budget place with the facilities of one much more expensive makes it good value and worthwhile!

Very good location close to many restaurants and across the road from the beach - but you get to use all the facilities of the Chaweng Cove across the road, so with the budget room prices being so much cheaper this is a great deal.
The rooms are by no means budget-large, clean and modern. In-room safe, mini fridge, powerful shower. Friendly staff on the reception desk who do their best to help you.
The hotel also arranges airport pick-up for 900 baht, but found an agent across the road who arranged airport transfer for 150 baht per person.
Stayed in a twin bedded room for 7 nights start of August 2012 and would stay here again without any hesitation.

I have stayed here for a few times and I always enjoy it. The rooms facing the mountains are the best but they only have them in twin beds. The rooms are super clean and modern with new furniture, very nice sheets and shower. For this price range is a good deal. Also is just a cross the street from the beach. There is not elevetor so if you have big luggage that may be a problem, however they offer the belt boy to help. Another negative is that you have to pay for the Internet witch is non sense about 3 dlls an hour, most hotels and even simple restaurants offer it for free. At any case I would stay here again for one or two nights.

We stayed at the Chaweng Budget hotel on the 9th to 11th February 2012 and paid £49 for the two nights. We had come from Bangkok on the night bus so were thrilled when we were able to check in 2.5 hours early. Our room was great, spacious with a comfy bed and good shower in the bathroom. We loved that we had a DVD player as we could watch our pirate DVD's when we were getting ready. We also had a fridge and the air con was excellent; so all in all everything you need for a comfy stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and we felt safe and secure during our stay. An added bonus for this hotel is the use of the pool across the road, which was heavenly in the immense heat. We had a great time in Samui and our highlights were the elephant trekking where we rode Victoria (massive), our guide took so many photos and was brilliant and entertaining. We also ate at the Orchid which is on Trip Adviser and was absolutely delicious. If you come out of the Chaweng budget go left and cross the road and the Orchid is there after a 10 min approx walk. It is sign posted so you can't miss it.
