“Awesome stay”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We were staying 5 Nights at the Hotel.
Awesome spot!
Breakfast was really good.
Pool Area was great.
The staff member were very friendly and helpfull.
We could really enjoy our stay.
The only let down was the Internet witch was not free of charge but a bit overpriced.

enjoyed our stay, nice bungalows, good location, great pool, food poor at breakfast-cold and kept running out of most things including cutlery, could do with another bar other than pool bar, staff seem a little in experienced , but on the whole satisfactory. would suggest eating out at Chaeweng or Bhoput. Many good restaurants and bars about.

we never had such a disastrous experience as with this place. they have no idea what being a resort actually means! the place is very dirty and run-down, food - better don't risk, there is no service whatsoever and to get anyone's attention is virtually impossible.
daily telephone calls and meetings with the Management did not change or improve anything, we were seriously considering to change the place.
to be avoided at all costs!

I am quite surprised to read all the good reviews on TA for this resort because I wasn't impressed at all. However I only stayed one night and I was alone (this is more of a couples resort).
The style wasn't to my taste, my room felt like a hospital room. It was big and clean though. The beach was ok although not suitable for swimming and there is a small boat yard close by, I could smell the fiberglass being applied as I had breakfast. If you want to get away from hectic Chaweng beach I think there are better options than this.

We booked this hotel online and were not sure what to expect. We came back to Koh Samui Al´s Laemson after staying in abosolute paradise at Koh Phangan and were a bit disappointed at first. (had a bit too high benchmark based on our previous exprience).
Checked in pretty late and the reception was not very pleasant. The staff did not speak very good english and although our booking (via AGODA) said that there will be free wifi there was none. after check in you have to walk about 20 steep steps (no lift) to the ground level to get to your bungalows. Not very pleasant with heavy suitcases and no liftboys around :(
The rooms were nice spacious and clean with inside and outside shower (which we basically used all the time) cause the inside one did not work that well.
Hotel is not new and some refurbishment is needed. Also the garden area by the restaurant would require some more caretaking. Breakfast was OK, pleasant seating with stunning view on the beachside.
On the other hand we were very happy to be located in this northern point of Chaweng busy beach. It gave us more privacy on the beach but not too far to walk when you want to go for lunch or dinner. Its quicker to walk along the beach to get to the busy center of Chaweng. We used a free hotel shuttle bus down to the center the first night, but if you enjoy walking, it is much more pleasant and healthier option :). There are great restaurants in the surrounding area so i stongly recommend to book only breakfast and eat out.
be careful of the oil marks in the sea (I quess because of the jetski running around). They leave unpleasant marks on your feet and do not come off that easily. Some hotels provide some special paint thinner to be able to clean your feet. I have my havannas completely cover with these black spots from walking along the beach!
Overall nice location fo the hotel, away from the busy crowd, yet close if you need to reach it. Nice rooms, clean and spacious.

we were walking around north of chaweng looking for resort, till we foud the one for us. The stafff were very friendly and helpful, very good and variety breakfast. the beach was really beautiful , very quite cozy, nice swimming pool with a good view. the only bad thing about our stay at AL Alemson was it was too short. i really love the beach here, its not crowded like in the center on chaweng, ive finally got to finish my book... we would definitely come back to this resort.

For the last 6 years, I have been working and living in SE Asia. We visited most of the countries from this part of the world. We stayed in many hotels/resorts but Thailand ones, always impressed us from many points of view but unfortunately, not at this time.

The main issue is that this place is NOT SAFE.

1. The access to the front reception is by a concrete stair of around 12 stairs. Please be aware that the every second stair step is shorter and the gap - on both sides – between the railways and the stairs is around 20 cm. In one afternoon, we witnessed a serious accident. A Japanese tourist was descending the stairs having a luggage in one hand and keeping the railway with the other hand. By the time when he tried to step on the shorter stair step, his foot was getting on that gap and the poor guy was tumbling to the bottom of the stairs. The tourist got cuts and bruises all over his body including a very serious one on his right knee who was asking for a good number of stitches.
2. Many tourists are unaware that the front beach in not swimmable and NOT SAFE being very stony. We checked the reviews before and we have been aware of this. It was fine for us, as one of the best beaches in Samui – Chaweng beach – is just around the corner.
However, there are others who discovered that, in the painful way. In one morning we had breakfast on the beach restaurant and we witnessed a scary event. A lady who just arrived was very impatient to have a splash. Unfortunately, due to the sharp rocks, she got lots of cuts and her feet been heavily bleeding. I truly believe that a sign – Rocky beach, proceed carefully at your own risk - should be put in on the beach.

I discussed with the Resort Manager about the above issues explaining that the tourists are coming here for vacationing and not the check Samui’s hospitals but I am not sure if any action will be taken.

Yes, as other reviews underlined, there are issues about the breakfast. Those teenage girls who take care of the egg station, have no idea about the proper order of adding the ingredients to prepare the omelet…or to cover the bread, cheese, etc, with a towel.
Also don’t bother to pay for the WI-FI, as the connection will be more off than on. By the way, we have been vacationing many times in Thailand but it is the first time when WI-FI was not free.
We got other nasty surprise when we had to pay at check out for our food and drinks. Sadly, they charged twice for our lunch. After 20 minutes of phone calls between the front reception, restaurant and pool bar, they said that was a mistake without saying a “sorry”.
It is a pity as the resort is nice having a great pool and a superb sea view.

And for sure, we will never return to this resort.

I strongly advice TripAdvisor that beside the current rating components (Service, Value, etc), to add new one: SAFE rating
