Living in Pakistan, there is a dearth of mexican eateries which makes me seek out Mexican food joints everywhere I go, and Gringos, just off the main Chaweng Road did not disappoint!
We went in for a late lunch and were the only customers at the restaurant at the time. The music sounded like the soundtrack from breaking bad and put us in the mood for some serious eating. As it was happy hour, we ordered a 1 liter jug of frozen margarita and ordered the nachos supremo for starters which was a huge portion of absolute deliciousness. Tortillas loaded with beef chilli, salsa, guacamole, beans, sour cream and a very generous topping of cheese; we wiped up every last bit with relish.
For mains, I ordered the hard shell taco (beef) and beef and chicken enchiladas combo whereas my husband ordered the enchiladas and quesadillas combo. Both main were served in huge portions and were again spot-on with the flavor. Even my husband, who is usually not a Mexican food fan was full of praise for the food and that’s a big compliment!
We capped off the meal with fried ice-cream (my husband’s weakness!) and though we tried much better elsewhere, it was still quite a satisfying dessert and definitely miles better than the fried ice cream we’d had at Dara Samui down the road a few nights back.
Overall, if you’re a lover of Mexican food, Gringos on Chaweng is a must visit and as authentic as you’ll get!
