“Wonderful Place, it's worth the money”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

This place is absolute paradise. The sea is the clearest blue I have ever seen. We stayed in a Sea Front Pool Villa on the quiet side of Chaweng Noi Beach in Koh Samui. It was absolutely fantastic, the views from our bedroom were stunning. We had our own private pool with terrace, which over looked the amazing Chaweng Beach. The room was lovely and clean and we were given a bottle of wine and some tropical fruit. Some advice I would give, everything is quite impressive and their beachfront restaurant is good with reasonable price. A set dinner for 2 person at the beachfront restaurant, which is truly unbelievable is just THB 1,900 for a five course dinner. I must say the food is good and very fresh, the service great and it is worth visiting once in Samui. If staying in the quiet zone make sure you get to the pool early as there are only 8 sun loungers and they go quick. Once a week they have a Thai Night Dinner or BBQ Seafood Dinner, that is really lovely, they serve rock lobster and other fish and all the food we ate was brilliant. If you can pack some snacks to have during the day, it will save you some money as there are some local small convenient shops nearby (just opposite). The small spa is also not too bad and the treatments are cheap. Anyway, Book early as the slots get taken quickly. Don't miss the outdoor nightlife at Chaweng Centre and Fisherman Village, great fun and the hotel provide a free shuttle van everyday. I really can't wait to visit this place again next summer.

Stayed for a week in February as a couple, had a sea front pool villa room and it was fantastic, we arrived late at night after a long day of flying and were checked in very quickly and taken to our room that we were impressed with. Breakfast was good and some of the dishes were mixed up daily so you didn't have the same thing everyday.
There was a shuttle bus to chaweng that was free, it was walking distance too if needed. there is also a general store over the road for some chang's, coke, water and so on.
Room was cleaned daily but the only problem we had with the hotel was the cleaning time as we tried to be away when came to clean but the time was different every day some days 11am others 4pm...other than that almost perfect. A little expensive to eat at the hotel but there are plenty of options at chaweng not too far away and it was nice to be far enough away from the hustle and bustle but not too far for when it was wanted.... we did have room service one night and the food was good.
Not right on a beach as such, but one end of the hotel is and only a couple meters down was a safe swimming beach with some beach bars, massage and cafes where most of our days were spent..by the way this was where we got the best massages of our trip to Koh Samui, and we were there daily for our morning massage after we found them.
would go back for sure.

Room Tip: The sea front pool villas are the great, nice and private

I'm not usually one to say this but honestly, if you're looking for a five star experience - this is not it. The hotel itself is beautiful but the staff leave a lot to be desired unfortunately. I write this understanding that these jobs are peoples livelihoods but also bearing in mind this is someones hotel and business

Requested airport transfer, it never came, waited for 30 mins at the airport. It actually seemed to have been a problem with who we booked the hotel with, agoda, and we recieved compensation for this. However the way the reception staff dealt with us was pretty bad. No apologies really. I asked them to sort it out with agoda having had to argue with them for like 30 mins only to be pulled out of the pool to speak with agoda on the phone myself.

Later that night we had no hot water. Went to reception again, it was once again pretty bad, as if we were interrupting them or something. Just asked to speak to the manager on duty, she was lovely and really apologetic we had such a terrible stay. We were upgraded but by that stage it was too little too late, we just wanted to get the hell out of there.

We booked into their most expensive see view pool villa which looked amazing on their website. Once checked in and shown to our room we couldn't believe the state the rooms was in. Everything in the room is run down beyond belief. The toilet and its fixtures are at a 2 star level with totally rusted toilet paper holder and a disgusting yellow toilet seat. Tv offers plenty of tv channels to choose from, but not even half of them work. There are DVD players but no DVDs anywhere in the resort to borrow. The rooms was advertised with a ceiling fan, but to our surprise there was just a badly masked hole in the ceiling where the fan used to be. The room is also advertised with Wifi which we could not connect to at all. We did tell the reception and apparently the wifi was playing up and should be fixed the next day - true to their word it is working today, but drops out every 2 minutes or so. When we mentioned the missing fan, the receptionist found it funny that the fan is missing. I don't even want to go into the details of overall cleanleniness, lets just say, had there been a toilet brush provided, I'd be more than happy to clean the toilet myself. While the layout of the villa is a trully stunning concept it is not 4.5 star resort I have stayed in better beach bungalows than this. It is a shame as this place could be really amazing with a little bit more care.

The so-called king size double bed is combined with 2 single beds with a large gap in the middle. Many flies in the restaurtant. Very tiny little swimming pool. No continuous hot water which supply only 2 minutes of hot water after 2 minutes of COLD water. The TV connection is bad. Our package included 2 free massage, we could claim it only after many times of requests and confirmations - poor service? dishonest hospitality? Next to the main road, so it's noisy for the deluxe room. BUT good wifi connection.

We stayed at The Sarann for 5 days & was lucky to be there before their high season starts. The pool villa we had was of a good size & clean so we are pretty happy with what we have paid for (we got a corporate rate). There is really no need to worry that your neighbors would walk over to your villa as there are small trees and plants in between each villas. However, there is no absolute privacy as you can still look into part of your neighbor's pool from your sun deck lounge which I think is not a big issue unless you have a pervert for neighbor!

We are lucky to have chose a pool villa instead of a deluxe room or jacuzzi suite cos' we just want to stay in & laze around. The Sarann is built on the rocks which gives its privacy from people walking outside your pool villa. However, this also means there is no private beach in front of the resort. You have to walk abut 200 metres to the beach which would be shared by other resorts too. We went there one afternoon after lunch & it was not too crowded as there were plenty of space on the beach. The sea is very clean too.

I saw a jacuzzi suite vacant during my stay there & went in to take a peek. Looks pretty good I must say. The jacuzzi is huge & the whole setting looks romantic too!

A few cons which I can think of to give the resort a 3 clicks instead of 4 clicks-

1. It's not a 5 star resort thus the service levels of the staffs cannot be expected as so but only the reception staffs can understand English, the rest of the staffs not very much.. this can be frustrating for many guests I reckon.

2. One thing we did not like the room is there is no black-out curtains as wooden blinds are used instead. It is difficult to sleep in as the sunlight keeps coming through the blinds! There is also a need to put in full length mirror in the bathroom.

3. The walk to the beach. The least The Sarann can do is to clean up the area at the stairway towards the beach so that the guests can walk comfortably to the nearest beach available. The area is smelly as all the trash gathered there as it flows down from the road above besides The Sarann when it rains. I hope the resort would seriously spend some $ on this area to improve its image.

4. There is only 1 restaurant in the hotel which also means the beach bar is also the same place. The food is pretty ok cos' we had dinner at the resort for 2 nights. Don't bother to try this Bistro Samui which is on the beach, the food at The Sarann is much better!

5. The breakfast buffet is a shame! The varieties never change after 4 days & there are flies round the buffet table as it is open air. Nothing much to look forward to. They really need to improve on this area especially there is no other alternatives to it.

6. Shuttle to Chaweng town- 1pm & 5pm. Last shuttle back to hotel is 530pm. I think they need to have another shuttle back from Chaweng at night say 9pm. Don't make much sense to have a final shuttle back hotel at 530pm?? It's the 1st time I have seen such bad timing for a shuttle.

The Sarann is located at a quiet side of Chaweng beach which can be a big NO for people who want to have fun & shopping!

The taxi is ridiculously priced as well cos' they don't use meter. Go rent a bike or car if you want to move around in Samui.

To conclude, it's good for couples who just want a quiet time out from the city & don't mind the location cos' it's pretty far from the town centre. I like the fact that the beach around is clean & quiet. The villas are nice & well-kept but The Sarann can definitely do much better in those areas I have highlighted above. I would look forward to come again if they make effort to improve itself!

Room Tip: We chose Villa 105 as recommended by another reviewer.

We stayed at The Saran for 2 nights in the Jacuzzi Suite during our Honeymoon in Samui. The first look at the room blows your mind away as the whole room is done of wood with so much space that it makes you feel very royal and grand. The room has very beautiful interiors starting from its entrance which has seating area, the room, bathroom and the jacuzzi area. I strongly reccomend the hotel for -
a. The beauty of the room
b. Proximity to the beach
c. The view from the lobby, there was no view of the sea from our room though
d. The bathtub and jacuzzi are superb and adds the cherry to the cake.

Cons
1. Swimming pool is very uninteresting though placed with a good view, the pool has an awkward shape which looks very univiting since its next to the lobby and the restaurant
2. Next to the main road, some rooms may have noise of cars and bikes speeding creeping into their rooms. We stayed in one of the rooms close to the road however the disturbance at night is very minute and was a non-issue.
