“Well appointed with great staff.”
Reviewed January 16, 2010

We started our Thailand holiday here, late in September 2009. As it was low-season, we felt like we had the resort to ourselves. This resort is beautiful - make no mistake. It really is quite stunning. Right from the moment you arrive, it certainly makes an impression. What also stands out is the size of it and it can take a while to get around. It is certainly larger than you might at first suspect.

During our time, we received attentive service - as you'd expect at any time of the year, but also during low-season, but it really was great.

We tended to hang around the resort rather than go down into the more popular and rowdy town of Chaweng. The beach was ok, but small and slightly isloated. When we did go down to Chaweng, it was to sunbathe on the beaches for a while. Like me, you might find it odd that there is no direct beach access, but after a while you realise it is commonly accepted that you can walk through any resort to get to the beach.

The pool-side restaurant and bar area served good food, though the breakfast (included) wasn't what I would call five-star by any stretch. The hotel staff did very kindly set up dinner for us one night on the beach. Obviously more expensive, but it was well worth it.

We spent our three nights here in a villa with a private room. I was quite intrigued by the villas that surrounded the private pools (6 villa to a pool), but as it was only the two of us and not a bigger group of family & friends, it was good for what we needed.

Some people have talked down the outdoor bathroom - we really liked it. Didn't have a mosquito problem either, but that could be the time of year we were there. Just remember to keep the door to the bedroom closed so that the air-conditioning can keep your room nice and cool.

We definitely recommend this property to others looking for a nice break. In saying this, next time we will try somewhere new just to see what else is on offer, but we thoroughly enjoyed our time here at Lawana.

Have just returned from 8 days at the Anantara Lawana. We had a 'delux balcony' room- the cheapest option at he Lawana (no private pool), but was very impressed by the 'luxury' it provided. The resort itself was beutiful, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool by the beach was nothing short of spectacular. We found the various Lawana restaurant prices as expensive, but the food and drinks on offer from the pool bar were reasonable value (especially the 3-5pm 'happy hour'- 2 drinks for the price of one)

Lawana is about a 20-25 minute walk into the heart of Chawang- but if you don't want to shop covered in a layer of sweat, its about a 150/200TB cab ride (300-400TB ride to Fishermans village/ 500TB to Lamai). Its a bit of a pain if you want to get a cheap breakfast (we found that a cab ride into Chawend and back + breakfast was still a lot cheaper than what the hotel offered)

The beach in front of the Lawana isn't as nice as the main Chaweng beach- there isn't any surf- but it was great for a swim, and if you had kids, would be ideal for them to safely splash around in.

We came here 3 years ago and loved it, so decided to come back......staff were excellent, and food good, whilst the hotel is still first rate, the surroundings are changing. Due to re-development a massive hotel is being built on its eastern side as you walk to the "Fishermans Village" the noise from construction is irritating and ruins the peaceful Anantara ambiance. I believe this building should be finished by the 14th January..... going towards the fishermans village new upmarket restaurants and developments are encroaching on its once peaceful area. However, some people will not mind this as a more livlier environment may be desirable. We won't be coming back as we do like the quieter life. But the hotel is still great!
