We stayed at the Anantara over Christmas, selecting it from a short-list of TripAdvisor reviews. It lived up to all our expectations. I would be surprised if there is a resort in Thailand which has more delightful staff. Within a day they made us feel like members of their extended family. We've stayed in some classy places over the years but nothing matched the service of the Anantara people. Nothing was too much trouble and even the simplest request was met with graciousness and smiles. The service ethic in Thailand is what makes it such a special destination and the Anantara Lawana sets the highest standard. On arrival we were offered an upgrade (paid for) to a private pool villa. But decided against it as the beach and public pool area is perfect. Form reading some of the TripAdvisor reviews were were expecting to be met by squadrons of dive bombing mosquitoes every night. Incredibly we didn't see any mosquitos or suffer from one mossie bite. Our standard deluxe room was perfect for our stay with plenty of room and a huge bathroom. The only problem was that the illumination in the rooms is very low and it is impossible to read without a reading light. Presumably the low illumination is to discourage insects. We'd also urge the management to supply more drawers and storage space. The resort is a beautiful layout of pathways meandering through lush vegetation. We had no complaint about the food. Breakfast buffet and service was slick and lunch snacks at the Ocean Kiss restaurant were a perfect break from chilling out on the sun beds. Tree Tops the gourmet restaurant literally built within some huge trees and rated third best in Koh Samui.. The Australian chef has produced a menu that wouldn't be out of place in a Michelin-rated restaurant. It's not cheap but definitely worth a blow out for at least one evening. The Anatara's spa is a luxurious set-up offering the best deep-tissue Thai massages we've ever experienced. Spending 90 minutes having the year's stress exorcised fro your body is one of life's better experiences. Chewang Beach is a THB200 cab ride away and has its own particular charm/awfulness depending on your own point of view. It's not often that a resort exceeds the promises it makes on its web site But the Anantara delivered in spades.

Room Tip: Unless you want to spend your vacation entirely in your own space and need your own pool, the privat...

I can't give enough credit to the staff and management at this property From the moment of arrival you are catered to by a staff trained for one purpose. To indulge you with the finest service. Service on par with more well known 5 star resorts such as The Four Seasons or the Mandarin Oriental. And the Anantara Lawana does not fall short. We stayed for 9 days ending in early November. The 2 bedroom Royal Lawana Pool Villa was the perfect setting for 2 friends traveling together. The outdoor dining sala and attached kitchen were perfect for entertaining and late evening poolside dining, as we did most nights of our stay. The room service menu had a wide variety of selections available 24 a day, and the food was excellent. The included breakfast buffet was quite enjoyable, and as indicated in the title, the service was impeccable. Which reminds me to highly recommend the on property dining venue named Treetops. A truly first class dining experience with, yes, impeccable service. And the goat cheese was awesome. Impeccable service is one of the few things that never ever gets old. Thanks to all at the Anantara Lawana for a memorable visit! Looking forward to returning this Spring.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a pool villa

My husband and I spent early November at the Anantara Lawana Resort and Spa and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Anantara Seaview Pool Villa which was perfect (other than the fact that our private outdoor pool and tub weren't exactly totally private!) - the view was amazing and we loved the outdoor shower. The staff was absolutely fantastic - totally accommodating and extremely friendly. They helped us book excursions, rent a car and make some wonderful restaurant reservations (try Primo for Italian and Zazen for a romantic local flavor). To ease jet-lag, we enjoyed wonderful massages at the spa and used the gym a few times to work off all of the delicious food. The breakfast buffet spread was out of this world - you could literally have breakfast, lunch or dinner from American, European and Thai cuisine. I highly recommend getting breakfast included with your room. Our favorite staff member, Kate, took the time to talk to us about our day every morning and make suggestions for how to better enjoy our stay. We loved the location, since Chaweng nightlife and restaurants were walking distance. Our only complaint would probably be the fact that Koh Samui did not offer a lot of options for adventurers like ourselves. The days we relaxed by the pool with lunch were our best. Definitely highly recommend this hotel!

We were in our honeymoon and very excited to go to Koh Samui. First I booked the Plunge Pool room, that seemed to be very nice in the pictures. It was a mistake, and I will explain why: I am TOTALLY scared of bugs of any kind, allergic to mosquitoes and in this room the bathroom and toilet are outside. We arrived at night and when they took us to see the rooms, there they were: big black bugs and a lot of mosquitoes. We decided to upgrade the room, and it costs a lot more. We got an Anantara Pool Villa. IT WAS SIMPLY AMAZING! Expensive, but amazing! The room was big and nice, the pool was great and the hot tub outside saved us in a rainy morning. The hotel staff is very friendly, the breakfast is great and the location couldn't be better. Because of the honeymoon, we got decoration everyday, with swans, elephants, monkeys and rabbits, all towels made! The sparkling wine in the first day, the fruits, everything. Room service is also good and not that expensive, we recommend the pizza... If you are looking for an hotel to be spoiled and are not worried about price (you can find a lot of cheaper good options in Koh Samui), this is the place to stay. We also strongly recommend the Top Three Restaurant, it was an unforgettable experience! The only thing we didn't like in the hotel is the Hotel SPA, even if it looks very nice, the prices are higher than EVERY other spa we checked in the area, even in the 5 stars hotels.

Room Tip: If you are scared of bugs, you need to take a Pool Villa, because it is the only room with a closed...

Dear azigman,

Congratulations first of all again on your recent wedding and thank you for chosing us as your honeymoon destination.

Unfortunately it seems like you haven’t tried our Anantara Spa, otherwise I am sure you would have experienced this in a similar way as you did experience the Anantara Pool Villas… cost some extra money compared to others but certainly worth it and I can only highly recommend it.

Nevertheless, we are glad to see that you enjoyed a fantastic honeymoon with us and that we have been able to create a beautiful memory for you.

We stayed in late October and booked a deluxe plunge pool. On arrival after our pickup from the airport we were offered a cheap upgrade to a pool villa which we took. It worked out to be about half price. The villa was lovely and private and is designed nicely to reflect an island location. We enjoyed the semi outdoor bathroom which was still private with the blinds pulled down. The first night we were invited to the manager's drinks where we sipped Mai tais overlooking the beach and I have not been that relaxed for a long time.

Having the villa gave us the chance to relax and do literally nothing our first full day and chill out after a busy holiday and having a pool all to ourselves was really nice. The surrounds were private too which added nicely to the experience. We dined at the Skyhug restaurant in the trees and the food and service was amazing. There was even a salt guru who recommended which salt to have with your meal. I have never tasted food any better that what we had that night.

The remainder of the time we relaxed and ordered room service at different times and all of the staff were very nice and everybody was happy to greet us all of the time, including the cleaning staff which just wouldn't happen in Australia. The breakfast buffet was great, especially the egg station where you could order whatever eggs you wanted. Everybody may not appreciate this but we enjoyed having the resort cat laying under our table rubbing up against us during breakfast.

If we go back to Koh Samui, which we want to, we will definately consider this resort.

Room Tip: If you go in low season you have a chance of a cheap upgrade. It may rain on and off but it is inte...

My husband & I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We loved the location it was on the beach and near Chaweng town. The staff was great. Some major problems we had was the bathroom in our sea view villa it was open. Why would anyone have an open bathroom when there's ants, bugs & mosquitos? It was horrible and top of it all there's no AC in the bathroom area. I was so terrified every time I had to use the bathroom that I would find lizards or huge ants crawling everywhere. The AC in the room was so loud I didn't have a restful sleep. The buffet breakfast was okay it needs improvement. The last disappointment we had was the villa. We paid for a sea view villa and only had partial view of the beach because of over grown bushes and barely can see the beach. It was not worth the money just stay in their deluxe villa with a shared pool. Also they had construction going on during the day so that wasn't so relaxing when your sitting by the pool.

Room Tip: Don't stay at the sea view villa it's not worth the price. You'll get a partial view of...

Dear toryBurch,

Thank you for taking the time sharing your feedback with us.

We are very sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy our Sea View Pool Villa, especially as this is usually the most preferred villa in our resort. But we certainly understand that the semi-open bathroom could create some uncomfortable feeling if you are concerned about insects. Rest assured that our regular pest control treatments should limit visitations by them to an absolute minimum.

Thank you for your advice that some plants and bushes started blocking part of the view from your villa. We will review all villas again with our gardeners and will cut them wherever possible.

The construction you experienced during your stay was a replacement of the wooden deck around the pool which has been commented by several of our guests as well here on TripAdvisor. The work is finished and all our guests can enjoy the brand new wooden decks.

We are glad that you enjoyed your overall stay and that you liked our location and staff. Should you return to Koh Samui we would be more than happy welcoming you back and suggest one of our Deluxe Lawana rooms with a closed bathroom.

With kind regards
