“Two night stay to celebrate a Birthday”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

A warm welcome, very friendly staff, excellent cuisine, beautiful countryside. Altogether a great experience. We stayed to celebrate a Birthday and could not have chosen a better location. We would thoroughly recommend Hotel Belle Isle Sur Risle and hope to return again to repeat our experience.

Room Tip: As there is no lift to the upper rooms would suggest if travellers have any difficulty in climbing s...

we received a friendly welcome on our arrival. Hotel typically 19thcentury Norman architecture is tastefully furnished to create a period atmosphere while in no way seeming fusty. Our first floor room was very spacious with large and comfortable bed, bathroom and terrace looking over the garden. Dinner was served in the conservatory and was a very well balanced meal . Buffet breakfast was in another nicely decorated airy, sunny room though we could have chosen to have it in the bedroom. There was plenty of choice of the usual continental options and for a supplement one could have ordered something cooked. Staff very friendly and helpful.
In all we enjoyed our stay in this very peaceful hotel. One thought though, it would have been perfect to have had the choice of shower or bath as there was plenty of room for both In our bathroom.

Room Tip: Did not use spa so ignore rating.

nice place in the countryside to chill with its family. very nice park and the manager is a beautiful lady, very kind. We recommend it. The weather was not there but we still hace spent a really good moment in this family run heritage hotel.

Upon arriving at this wonderful looking Mansion and mentioning that my husband was recovering from illness the very attentive gentleman who received us mentioned that rooms in the annex were also available (groundfloor) and after showing us the room explained that it was recently redone to be able to accommodate persons with handicaps. Indeed the bathroom was big. Room beautiful with window overlooking the garden. Heating and airco. Also heating in bathroom. Separate shower with seat, bath and toilet.
Big excellent bed. No tea/coffee making facility.
The first night we had dinner at the 'big house'. Excellent diner in a nice diningroom. We went for the daily menu and were not dissappointed.
Breakfast is good with lovely fresh bread and croissants and wonderful cuts of meat and cheese. However next to us guests were served eggs fried and boiled. Nobody had asked us if we cared for some eggs.
We will definitely return and stay a bit longer than 2 nights.

Wifi is not working that great in the annex. But if you step outside and walk to the first room it works really well.

Room Tip: If you have a problem walking stairs ask for a room in the annex. They are great and ground floor. R...

An excellent find!! The food was amazing as was the accomodation. We stayed in 2 different bedrooms with superb views and large comfortable beds. The service was 1st class provided by a caring & friendly staff who went out their way to make us feel like we were the only guests. We had dinner in the hotel each night & were not disappointed once. The dinner itself was an incredible experience, the food was 1st class & we were never rushed or pushed along. There was an excellent choice of wine, spirits & soft drinks. The hotel is beautifully appointed & the furnishings are in keeping with the period of the property. Clean bedding & towels were provided everyday with copious amouts of hot water in the jacuzzi bath & the whole hotel & its beautiful grounds were there to be enjoyed by guests. All staff, including the owner & her son couldn,t do enough for us & we shall certainly be going back. Theo & Valerie

We loved the historical ambience of this beautiful hotel, with its grand entrance, beautiful traditional furniture and large well furnished en suite bedrooms and large beds too. The food was excellent, but expensive. The waiter was wonderful and formally attentive,We had an internet deal for 3 days including one dinner,so this was really good value. We ate extra food which we paid for and this was excellent as well as tea and coffee. The indoor pool was heated and adequate for a few people only, the outdoor pool was too cold as it was not heated and was mostly in the shade. The trees needed cutting back for sunbathing. The extensive grounds were lovely for a stroll. It helped tha the weather was hot,In all ,a lovely hotel to which we will re-visit.Easy access to Honfleur and surrounding areas.

Room Tip: I suspect all the rooms are good.

A pretty hotel set on a lake in a picturesque and tranquil park. The building has lots of character and the staff are very friendly. The 7-course meal was historic and although my wife and I are both quite critical, we could not fault it in any way.

Free wi-fi and nice to be able to sit in the nicely decorated lounge and browse newspapers or the Internet. One or two minor quibbles like the warm beer small and musty indoor pool prevent this being a 5-star rating, but all in all this is a charming and unusual hotel and it was a pleasant surprise and an enjoyable stay. The steak will stay in my mind for a long time to come! (Do they deliver to London, I wonder?...)
