“Weekend stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

Stayed 2 nights whilst at Car Fest north.
Restaurant food was excellent. The service was also top. However, we had a twin room in the basement and it was unbelievably hot, stuffy dry air. One of the beds was broken, actually sunk in the middle. I did point this out to the helpful receptionist at checkout.

A great location for a hotel, but they should fix the air flow in the rooms and most definitely check out the beds as this made the stay uncomfortable

Dear Gill C

Thank you for posting your recent review on Trip Advisor.

I was delighted to read that you found the Restaurant food excellent and also the service top whilst spending two nights with us when you attended the Car Fest north.

Thankyou for brining to my attention the broken bed I would like to apologise for this causing you to have an uncomfortable stay I hope that this doesnt deter you from staying with us again in the future.

We are so very lucky with our location located on top of Frodsham Hill yet so close to all that the North West has to offer.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the not to distant future.

Kind Regards

Had a lovely weekend break, food was fault less, staff always friendly and happy to provide anything which wasnt included. Family room was spacious, beds comfortable and sheets were soft (unlike most hotels we have stayed at). Can't fault the place, great value too.

We visit this hotel with our whole family at least twice a year, and there are many reasons why we keep returning. The hotel itself is set in gorgeous countryside, just minutes from the lovely village of frodsham, it is clean and well presented. The rooms are of a high standard with the most comfortable beds of any hotel I have visited. The food is of a high standard and is served by professional and friendly staff, particularly helpful was the restaurant manager who went out of his way to make my father in laws birthday meal special, pleasing even my mother in law! Which is not easy, ha. The reception staff are very friendly and very helpful. The pool is great for young and old alike, we took my two year old and 5week old and had a ball, and the grandparents enjoyed timeout in the spar. The general manager, Kieron, took my two year old to feed the hotels fish, which he hasn't stopped talking about, not many managers would bother with the kids. All in all a fantastic hotel, run by fantastic staff. I would and regularly do recommend it to everyone and anyone!

Dear Julie C

Thank you for posting your review on Trip advisor, regarding your recent stay with us.

I'm sorry that it was a little embarrassing that the team on the night were unsure of which menu was available on the deal I will be raising this issue with the team at our next Food & Beverage meeting along with the mixed comments concerning the food.

With regards to no hot water being available I will be investigating this matter with maintenance to ensure that there isn’t any reoccurrences of this in the future.

I was very pleased to read that you found us to be in a good location with good views along with being good value for money.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the not to distant future.

This was a get together for us - we live Scotland, our friends live in Portsmouth, so this was half way and we know Frodsham to be a nice place so we chose this hotel as our weekend break, and it had a swimming pool and family rooms. The hotel is a way up the hill away from Frodsham. It's a car journey down to the town, and all the amenities it provides therefore.

1. Cot. We asked for a cot upon booking. Also phoned upon morning of day of arrival (when we were packing to leave) to ensure they had a cot for us against our booking. Yes we were told. Upon arrival and check in, we asked if they had provided a cot for us. Yes we were informed. Upon arrival in the room, no cot. We phoned. 'Have you asked for one?' D'oh, no - only 4 times so far? No cot appeared until after 7 pm. Our toddler normally is in bed by 7.30 so it was touch and go and a wee bit stressful. No apology was provided and the staff didn't seem to care less.

2. Food. You can't eat here with small children. Their restaurant only opens at 7 pm. Too late for small children that are usually in bed for 7.30 pm. Pool bar sells snacks. And after 6 pm bar meals. Again too late when they are used to eating at 5 pm, enough time for them to process and be asleep without interruptions in the night for us all. We had a swim on first night on arrival, so ate a bit later than usual. The food arrived by about 7.30 after ordering it about 6.30, so not the fastest service. The second night, after a full day out at Chester Zoo, we decided to eat at the bar again because it was easier with tired children. We factored in the potential hour long wait so ordered the food at about 5.30, and at about 6.30 some of the order arrived. Some adults food, some children food but neither family a complete order. The order had been lost (a wedding was in the offing at the same time!). We finished eating by about 8 pm, after witnessing the very caring and helpful bar man get a rollicking from the chef on the phone, and reception who we complained to gave us a 'couldn't care less' attitude after the 90 minute wait. Eventually the manager agreed to refund the meals that took nearly 2 hours to arrive, but again, it was only after several complaints and trying to control 4 very hungry wee ones. Never again.

3. Room. Was about the same size you'd get, with same facilities you'd get from the £29 per night Premier Inn. Bathroom had a power shower, which was good, but very dated, with pink suite. It was quiet and no disturbance from the wedding, although a little hot.

4. Swimming pool. Tired. Dated. Scum feel around the edge of the pool tiles. Daughter of 4 cut her foot on a sharp tile and left her with a gash on the bottom of her foot.

5. Breakfast, good choice, no full fat milk for under 2's. Staff friendly. Food nice.

Overall, we won't be meeting up here again and will find somewhere else to meet, just as good in a Premier Inn and just find one near a local swimming pool that is well maintained and without risk of injury or scum.

It's a wedding hotel, where you get lots of grown ups and that type, but certainly not catering for children and young families.

Without children this would have been an OK destination. To a point.

Room Tip: Take your own cot for children, cuts down on the stress.

Dear Fisssface
Many thanks for posting your review on Trip Advisor and I was extremely disappointed to read of the problems you had when you stayed with us,
I would not necessarily agree with your comments about us being unsuitable for children as we have many families and have had many reviews on Trip Advisor from families that would bear testimony to the fact that we are a family friendly hotel and we do cater for and look after our smaller guests as much as the adults,
Unfortunately the cot not being in your room on arrival would seem to have been a catalyst to the problems you had and we have reviewed our policy on ensuring that these important details are followed through as not to cause inconvenience to our guests.
We are also reviewing our opening and closing times on our restaurants so we can cater for more families who wish to dine earlier than 7pm however we do open our restaurant bar at 5.30 and it shouldn’t have been a major problem to sit you down in the main restaurant earlier.
As you are already aware I have responded to you via our own internal guest feedback system as you had also posted comments on that as well.
It is disappointing that you feel we were unable to give you the customer service and standards that we have built our justifiable reputation on and had we been more aware of your problems and concerns we could have dealt with them before you had departed the hotel
Once again please accept our most sincere apologies and rest assured that all your comments have been actioned
Yours Sincerely
Kieran McCabe

The staff were very friendly and unfortunately when we arrived, the hotel was completely full. Therefore we only had a standard room which did not really cater for our needs. We were travelling with twin baby girls and with 2 travel cots, there was no space at all in the room left.We had to fold them down each day so that the girls had a bit of space on their blanket on the floor to crawl.
The staff did apologise that there was no other room available so we only have this room to go by.

It as also extremely hot in the UK when we arrived and there is no air conditioning in the rooms. We were provided with a fan but it was too loud when the babies were sleeping and did not really help.I would not stay here again in summer. The bathroom radiator is always on for the hot water and unbearable in the summer heat.

The hotel could do with a bit of renovating and it is in such a fabulous location, more could be made of it.

But we have said, we will try it once again but only when there is a larger room available. The rooms and hotel were very clean which is important to me especially travelling with twin babies.

Dear UKNL 2006
Thank you for posting your review on Trip Advisor regarding your recent stay with us.
It was unfortunate for you and the family that we were so busy when you stayed as we have some very large family rooms that would have accommodated all your needs and given your children plenty of room to play without have to keep taking the travel cots up and down.
Hopefully next time you stay with us we will ensure you are allocated one of these rooms.
I am delighted that you found our team here friendly and accommodating as this is the most important aspects of our guests stay.
We are constantly upgrading our facilities and decor here at the hotel and will continue to do so in the future.
Once again many thanks
Kind Regards
