“Worth a trip”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

Castle Park has been the recipient of lottery millions and so you would expect a good public park with a real mix of decent facilites.

It has a bowling green, new playground, and other recreational facilities. The formal gardens are very nice and there is an arts centre and coffee shop, overall its a very nice park and worth a visit on a sunny day.

“Nice free couple of hours out”
Reviewed April 14, 2012

I've been coming to squirrel park over the years here and there and over Easter decided to take my youngest (3&5) as its a new park to them so knew they'd be happy. Had no problem parking which was free, noticed the old play area had gone so we followed the path and that lead to the new play area.

Its well equipt for younger kids, 2 sand pit areas with buckets and spades, wheelchair accessible roundabout, climbing frame, baby swings etc. Its right opposite the bowling green, cafe and toilets with a separate park up the hill for the older kids. This is a great idea as it means the younger kids area is clean and free of glass and can be watched over from the bowling green, genius!

The older kids part could do with more stuff as only 2 things working and the walks around looked promising but kids had brought their bikes this time.

I think they've done a really good job and felt it much more suited my kids than walton gardens (expensive parking and they're too little for lot of stuff). I live quite far away so this is somewhere nice to go on a warm day.

I didn't give the full 5* as i think the older kids park at the top could do with some attention and a lack of benches but 5* for new area :)

the park looks more spacious now it has been transformed. the new play area is ideal for children, there are plenty of benches and picnic areas and a cafe makes it enjoyable.
