My boyfriend and I spent 5 nights at the Lodge in June and had a wonderful time. The setting is spectacular, a breathtaking backdrop of the majestic Pyrénées is visible whilst sitting at dinner or relaxing on the balcony of our room post cycle.
The lodge is located in between the well known climbs of Tourmalet, Luz Ardiden etc and the stunning Col D’Aubisque on the other side. We mixed and matched our itinerary, taking on the tough climbs some days and on others we explored the area at a more gentle pace - there is stunning hiking at the Cirque at La Gavroche and a flat greenway cycle path all the way to Lourdes if you want a day away from the hills.
Niamh and Mark have set a natural relaxed vibe at the lodge and made everyone feel at home. The honesty bar is a lovely touch and was a great reward to enjoy a post cycle beer in the sunshine before dinner. We enjoyed getting to know the other guests at mealtimes and sharing tips from the day’s cycling - a great mix of nationalities and levels of expertise on the bike. The food was superb and hearty (the porridge deserves a special mention). Overall - despite being such amateurs we had a blast at the lodge and would love to return. Cycling the Col D’Aubisque was a magical experience - a view that must be seen to be believed!!
